Defect Description:
FUEL/PROPULSION SYSTEM
Potential Consequences:
On my way to drop my child off at school, I stopped to refuel my Audi Q7. Upon inserting the nozzle to refuel the car, gasoline immediately began jetting out of the fuel door before the auto-shutoff kicked in, covering myself as well as my vehicle. Thankfully, the hot exhaust did not ignite the liquid or fuel vapor potentially causing a deadly fire. Despite having no fuel remaining, I was able to take the vehicle to our local mechanic where they discovered a TSB denoting this specific issue. The TSB was initially released 04/28/2016 for Model Year 2017 Audi Q7s. It was subsequently updated to include Model Year 2018 Q7s as well. This is a documented factory safety defect that denotes if this issue is to occur, to replace the whole fuel tank. Further research shows that a valve inside the non-wear, non-serviceable fuel filler neck can become dislodged and nearly completely block the filler neck from accepting fuel. This can cause a potential safety issue as the result of this blockage, the vehicle as well as driver can become doused in gasoline before a pump's auto-shutoff can kick in due to the shallow depth of the fault. The problem is known and documented as being an issue nearly immediately after the Model Year 2017 Q7 line was released. There was no prior warning or indication that this could occur at any time filling the vehicle.

Defect Description:
ENGINE
Potential Consequences:
Car issued an alert for Low Coolant, I checked next morning only to find that the coolant tank was empty. This warning could have alerted long back when the level fell below "Min" marker. Owners cannot notice this leak because the coolant doesn't drip on the floor. Took it to an independent service center who alerted me about this issue. I researched and noticed that there's been a lot of complaints on forums for 2017 Audi Q7 3.0 for coolant leak cause by the water pump, which always needs replacement. The replacement costs by AUDI are upwards of US $1300. This issue seems like a regular pattern and can cause an engine failure. AUDI should take responsibility and fix these cars.

Hello. Campaign Number 16V642000 needs to be expanded to include the full range of VINs manufactured for all the 2017 Audi Q7 model year(s). This vehicle reports a side marker light malfunction, but the VIN is not included in the Audi recall. There are numerous complaints on the NHTSA website itself, and even more across various Internet forums to warrant NHTSA investigation. The continued delay by NHTSA not to investigate the need to expand the range of VINs covered under this recall, allows a safety issue to continue to go uncorrected by the manufacturer and therefore unnecessarily and negligently increases the risk of crash for countless motorists.

SUSPENSION
Potential Consequences:
Both rear suspension springs broke at approximately the same spot. I am not sure when they failed. I do recall when I was driving at about 15MPH in August I heard a loud bang and checked the outside of my car to see if maybe something had hit my car. You cannot see the suspension springs when you look under the car. When I had my annual NYS safety inspection the mechanic showed me the broken springs and I failed inspection until I obtained new springs and mounting plates. Audi service (New Rochelle NY) informed me that it was unsafe to drive the car until the springs were replaced. I had the springs replaced by Mavis tire center. The springs that failed were inspected by Audi and Mavis tires after they failed and I have the parts if an inspection is required.

Potential Consequences:
During a state inspection, the technician discovered that the water pump was damaged and was leaking coolant onto the engine. The coolant overflow was below minimum, but no low coolant lights appeared on the dash. The repair cost me $1200 out of pocket, and no assistance was offered as the vehicle is just out of warranty. This issue is commonly documented as highly prevalent in the 2017 Q7, among other models--poor design of the pump is resulting in premature failures. There was a class action law suit against other Audi models that is providing relief to consumers and extending warranty for this issue. With the number of failures being reported, please extend this support to Audi Q7!

Potential Consequences:
The headlights in the vehicle are malfunctioning. The daytime running lights are dimming and failing. The vehicle was inspected by the dealership and they state that both headlights need to be replaced at a cost to me of $8,500, and they further claim that the issues indicates the entire headlight assembly is failing and has to be replaced. After looking at this issue online, it appears to be an extensive issue with Audi of failing LED headlights. Audi has issued recalls for some models over the same issue, but not all, and the 2017 Q7 is not part of the headlight recall. It seems clear to me that LED headlights should not fail after a few years of routine use, and it is concerning that the failure of the headlights will get worse and will likely impact the safety of the vehicle. Further, it is concerning that Audi is not willing to remedy what is a product defect in a vital car component.

I was driving down a well paved road obeying the speed limit of 35MPH when a loud bang startled me. There was nothing in the road, and I checked my rear view mirror to confirm and there was nothing in the road. The car started handling a little differently. I brought it to the dealership and they told me both rear springs had broken. The vehicle only had about 70K miles on it. It could have severely affected the car's driving and could have put driver, passenger or other cars in jeopardy. There were no warnings at all.
