Defect Description:
STEERING
Potential Consequences:
Power steering assistance unit stoped working suddenly while driving. Then car was very difficult to steer. Fault could not be reseted, unit was not accessible with service computer in Audi shop. The steering unit was replaced. Just by luck that did not happen while driving at high speed. This could have been resulting in crash with casualties. While browsing the internet for advice it shows multiple incidents with the Audi electric powered steering unit. In the attached pic’s it shows a wet rubber seal and a corroded drive shaft of the replaced part (note the part numbers). Water and oil can find its way into the resolver unit and render it useless, cause lost of feedback signal hence kill the unit. Additional observation: Month before this incident happen, while driving at low speed in warmer/hot environment, a stepper motor feeling was noticeable on the steering wheel. Also a sound can be heared similar to rubber scratches over a dry surface. The disturbance went away when the car cooled down for some hours. It would be advisable to investigate the issue further as the consequences of loss if steering power could be very serious. Wishing everyone a safe travel.

SERVICE BRAKES
Potential Consequences:
I purchased a used 2017 Audi Q7 Premium on 11/16/2023 from a Volkswagen. Since it showed the message "Brake pads: wear limit reached. You can continue driving. Please contact Service", the agreed to repair it. I didn't receive my vehicle until 2 weeks later. They said that the work was done but after driving it for a couple of days the message is still showing. After driving it off the lot, minutes later I get a message "Front left side marker light defective. See owner's manual". After examining the side markers it doesn't look the neither side is out and there is no way showing on how to clear the message. I haven't taken it to an Audi dealership as of yet. But worried on if I made the right purchase.

Defect Description:
ENGINE
Potential Consequences:
We purchased a 2017 Q7 with low milage. At around 75k miles the engine started consuming oil every 1,200 miles, when previously it never required an oil change before the regularly scheduled service. The dealer always said "that is 'in spec'". This went on for over a year. Then, when we were driving cross-country for thanksgiving in 2022, the engine made a major concussive noise and we lost power while driving on the freeway at around 70mph. This almost caused a high speed collision. It was winter and we had the entire family in the car. we took it to the dealership, and the service tech recommended a compression test and borescope. No carbon build-up was found. Pressure was 'ok' in all cylinders. There were codes showing a fuel injector misfire, so the dealer recommended replacing all of them. The repair was done, but we've continued to have excessive oil consumption, the engine continues to run rough, and we occasionally get 'drive system malfunction' errors. When driving cross country in sub-freezing winter weather, last week, the engine lost power again. I stopped at the nearest Audi service center two hours later, and the tech found that the spark plugs had significant carbon fouling. Spark plugs were replaced. Engine continues to consume too much oil. Based on my research, it appears that this is a known issue, with several class action lawsuits. The Q7 does not appear to be part of these suits (yet), but there are posts and forums all over the internet with owners reporting this problem.

2017 AUdi Q7 shares the same rear coil springs with the Volkwagen Atlas. There has already been a recall for the Atlas (18V-904), but none for the same issue with the Audi Q7. Volkswagen Atlas vehicles included in this recall may been manufactured with rear coil springs of certain production batches using a material that does not meet specifications as well as rear coil springs from production batches made with Vanadium material from one subsupplier with incorrect process parameters. The potentially affected vehicles were identified by tracking suspected parts batches using this material. The affected VINs are not sequential since some batches were built using correct raw material.

The warning disappeared after couple of times of turning the car back on, but it appeared once again. It looks that their are many complaints and a class act lawsuit on Audi about this problem but no recalls. It's dangerous and really mind blowing that nothing has been done on this issue.

Start/Stop system malfunction. The vehicle gave me this warning and the vehicle almost stopped completely in the interstate while doing 65mph. The warning disappeared after couple of times of turning the car back on, but it appeared once again. It looks that their are many complaints and a class act lawsuit on Audi about this problem but no recalls. It's dangerous and really mind blowing that nothing has been done on this issue.

Defect Description:
SUSPENSION
Potential Consequences:
I brought in my car to Audi of Peabody for routine service at approximately 62,000 miles. I was told both rear coil springs were broken. The car, purchased new in July 2017 has been routinely serviced at the dealership. There were no warnings on the vehicle. The dealer said this is a common failure for the Q7 and not covered by warranty or recalls. Checking user message boards of other owners with Audi Q7, apparently this is very common and seems potentially to be a faulty component. I have owned many vehicles for extended periods of time (more than 7 years each) and this is the first car that I'm told is a common failure. Sudden suspension failure appears to be a safety hazard.
