Defect Description:
FORWARD COLLISION AVOIDANCE: AUTOMATIC EMERGENCY BRAKING
Potential Consequences:
Vehicle has had multiple failures of the ABS system. One failure occurred while under warranty at 14,228 miles, but a subsequent failure at 45,994 miles is stated as "not covered" under standard or safety-related warranty. In the first failure, the "CONTROL A 68143491-AA" was replaced. For the second failure, "CONTROL A 68143491-AB" and "Module AN 68347098-AB" are to be replaced. The replacement has not occurred as of this date (3 months post diagnostic) due to a shortage of parts. It is claimed that there are so many failures of these parts and the pass-rate during manufacturing inspection is so poor that a resolution time for my primary vehicle is unknown. The quoted cost of this safety-related epidemic problem is near $2000 or almost 4% of the cost-new of the vehicle.

Defect Description:
SERVICE BRAKES
Potential Consequences:
In December 2022 the ABS warning light came on in my truck. Dealer confirmed that the ABS Module needed to be replaced. My dealer also said that there were several other like vehicles that they were holding onto for the same reason. Internet search revealed that this is a known issue with Ram. The real problem is that the part is apparently on a long backorder. There are reports of people waiting 6 months for the module. I was initially supposed to get the part on 18 JAN but that date shifted to 15 March and the dealer is telling me it's unlikely we'll even get it then. Two issues as I see it. 1- Ram has installed defective ABS modules in its trucks and has no way of replacing them. My truck is a 2018 with only 43000 miles on it, should ABS modules be going bad? Should a vehicle owner have a reasonable expectation that the company will be able to fix/backup it's products? The other issue that really pertains to NHTSA is that I've heard from multiple people that, due to the long wait times for the part, they're simply pulling their vehicles out and using them. Most people (like me) are struggling with being down a vehicle for months at a time. Many require it for work. The brakes still function but the ABS will not (nor will the cruise control). If the reason that vehicles all come equipped with ABS is for safety, it makes sense to me that having vehicles on the road without it is unsafe. But what are people to do when Ram will not provide a part? I'm working my issues with Ram customer care but they are not helpful. There is no buyback program for backordered parts. There is no rental or loaner program. My insurance will not cover a rental because it's a backordered part. There is no anticipated end to the parts wait and this is encouraging people to drive unsafe vehicles.

Defect Description:
SERVICE BRAKES
Potential Consequences:
The ABS - Electronic Braking System fault light flashes on the dash while driving. This could cause a crash during hard braking, rain slick roads, or while towing. The truck has been to the dealership about this concern and was told the parts are not available for at least 6 months. I was also told by the dealership that the manufacture who makes the parts is not longer in business and there is no plans for Ram to source a new manufacturer. The part at fault is the ABS module and Hydraulic Control Unit. These parts were replaced while under factory warranty in August of 2020 with 13,894 miles and needs to be replaced again under RAM's extended warranty with 24,000 miles. This is an ongoing issue with these trucks. I keep getting mixed answers if the truck will pass a state inspection with the ABS light on.

Defect Description:
SERVICE BRAKES
Potential Consequences:
The ABS and Traction Control units stopped working with 23,000 miles on the truck which also caused the cruise control to stop working. This is obviously very dangerous to have the brake system fail. Dealer has taken 8 weeks to get the parts and is costing over $2000 to repair. The dealer states they have never had this however there are many forums / videos on the Internet discussing this exact problem. The 2019 to 2022 RAMs already have a recall for this exact problem while the 2017 and 2018 owners have to pay for it out of pocket.

SERVICE BRAKES
Potential Consequences:
I have a 2018 Ram 2500 with 68000 miles. Last year while driving the ABS and traction control light came on. The sensor will frequently trip and the code will come in and out intermittently. Upon research, it seems this is a known deficiency with this model. I called the dealership and while they agree it is a known issue, there is no recall so I will be forced to put out the money myself. With labor the cost would be over $1600. I am about to spend over $500 for a new Electronic and Hydraulic Control unit for the trucks ABS and just do the repair myself. Is there any relief at this point from the NHTSA? can we finally get a recall issued? I have seen over 212 complaints on this very website for this very topic. This is only the ones that have found this website and made a complaint. How many more dont know to do this?

Defect Description:
SERVICE BRAKES
Potential Consequences:
Started getting Service Brake System and ABS warnings in July 22. Had the ABS module replaced. Still getting alerts which deactivates the cruise control randomly when the warning appears. Warnings ding randomly and frequently. Apparently the hydraulic control unit needs replaced but the part is not available and can't be ordered now. I'm worried that I will lose my brakes.
