ENGINE

Potential Consequences:

June of 2021 I received an oil consumption recall notice, immediately brought the vehicle into Flagler Chrysler Dodge. Mileage, 20,400. They told me to bring it back in 1000-2000 miles which I did at 22,001 miles, they said it was fine and closed the recall. Shortly thereafter as I was driving my vehicle it would hesitate and by the time I could get it to the dealership within 2 days, I work 2 jobs, it died in the middle of the road. Got it started, brought back to dealership begging them to check the oil explaining the circumstances. The service manager at the time refused to have my oil checked unless I agreed to do an $86.00 oil change. Told him several times I had one with my certified mechanic at 4000 miles prior but still refused, told me I would have to make an appointment and come back to have the oil checked if I didn't do the oil change. At that point I had no choice but to agree to the oil change if I wanted to drive my unsafe vehicle out of there. Fast forward to Atlantic Dodge in St Augustine where I took it afterwards and asked for help. They assured me they could/did start the testing over. It failed the testing twice and because Flagler closed it out Atlantic had to go thru my engine warranty. That began 9/12/22. To date after many visits to the dealership 30 minutes away, pictures, documents etc. I was told in March of this year 2023 that I had been approved for an engine. But again they continued to ask me for copies of my oil changes, come up there to take pics of my engine, send pic of my mileage, vin sticker. I questioned why they needed these things again if I had been approved, the answer was always...they're working on it. On 9/25/23 I sat with and questioned Dan Moreland, service manager. I was told it wasn't my car that was approved in March, it was someone else's. Now told I was denied previous week by Jeep who falsely claimed Atlantic held my car for 30 days! I am [XXX] old driving an unsafe road hazard car and need help! [XXX] INFORMATION REDACTED PURSUANT TO THE FREEDOM OF INFORM

SERVICE BRAKES

Potential Consequences:

While in park and the parking brake engaged, I then went to disengage my automatic parking brake, received a service automatic parking brake system and my brakes would not disengage. I could not move my car. After research this is a common problem with the automatic braking system. I could have been in a very dire situation where I needed to move my vehicle and I could not. It was very scary. I then had my car towed to the Jeep dealership on September 23, 2023 and they have yet to diagnose the issue. I did speak with a mechanic and he stated he has known of the issues and he thought there may be a recall issued. I can not find a recall but am in hopes that there will be one issued. As this is very unsafe especially if you’re in a situation where you need to get out of.

The manufacturer was notified of the failure and confirmed that the vehicle was previously included in and unknown recall where an oil consumption test was performed but no further assistance was provided. The failure mileage was approximately 32,000.

The contact’s sister owns a 2018 Jeep Renegade. The contact stated that on numerous occasions while the vehicle was idling at a stop, the vehicle stalled without warning. The contact’s sister was able to restart the vehicle after approximately 5 minutes. The vehicle was taken to the dealer where an oil change was performed; however, the failure recurred. The contact stated that on a separate occasion while her sister was driving at approximately 70 MPH, the vehicle abruptly jerked and stalled. The contact’s sister was able to restart the vehicle. The dealer was notified of the failure and advised the contact’s sister to bring the vehicle back to the dealer however, the contact’s sister declined to drive the vehicle. The vehicle was then towed to the dealer where it diagnosed that the engine failed and needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. UNKNOWN OR OTHER

Potential Consequences:

The Radio/ radio screen failed and continues to malfunction. While driving the radio was going bonkers and eventually called 911 by itself. The radio constantly changing stations and settings resulted in losing focus on the road and could have led to an accident. Dealer confirmed radio needs to be replaced. The component has not been inspected. There were no warning lights, or messages. Noticed bubbles on screen in 2020 or 2021. Didn’t know it would go bonkers and behave independent like it did when the problem occurred earlier this year

FUEL/PROPULSION SYSTEM

Potential Consequences:

From the first few months we've had this car it will randomly stall out about 10 times over 5 years while driving on busy streets. We've taken it to a Chrysler dealership and were told it was fine, but that we should get more frequent oil changes. We don't drive this car much (5 years and only 24k miles). It is still doing this and I just checked articles on this model/year and there are both fuel pump UB2 and powertrain control recalls U87 that say they lead to stalling out. But they are not listed as being recalls on our vehicle. I called Chrysler tonight and they said these recalls aren't for our vehicle, only a random software update W20. The car has been taken to a Chrysler dealer a few times. It also had an issue where sometimes we couldn't pump gas (gas pumps wouldn't work) and read online there was a failure in some Jeep gas tanks that they were missing a hole. We looked and there was no visible hole. We took it to the Chrysler dealership and they told us that wasn't a real error and nothing was wrong but when it got it back there was a hole there and we have been able to pump gas since. So I'm not sure that we trust that dealership.
