Potential Consequences:

[XXX] I was backing out of a parking spot on the 4th floor of the parking garage at work when my car displayed an SOS on the radio monitor and then my Jeep Grand Cherokee shut off and would not restart. I then had to call parking for my job to redirect traffic because I was preventing other vehicles from exiting the garage because my vehicle was unable to restart and I had to have it towed back to the dealership in Waynesboro GA and pay $120 to have this done. i waited over an hour for a tow truck to come and it is still unclear why this keeps happening. I am afraid that the next time it happens I may loss my life. I also called the dealership and Jeep wave to see if there was a way to restart the Jeep but no one was able to assist with the request. The vehicle is really becoming a problem for me. INFORMATION REDACTED PURSUANT TO THE FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 552(B)(6)

STEERING

Potential Consequences:

My safety is at risk driving this vehicle. There is an open recall stating you may lose steering without prior warning. This has been going on for over 1 month and still there is no remedy to fix this issue. This is out of control and needs to be fixed now before somebody gets hurt! (I'm not currently driving this vehicle because the risk is so high yet no dealer or Chrysler themselves will help me. They both told me I should continue to drive the vehicle.)

SUSPENSION

Potential Consequences:

I am writing to provide feedback and express my concerns about the safety and reliability of my 2022 Jeep Grand Cherokee L. Over the last 12 months, my vehicle has been subject to three recalls, including a severe safety recall involving the potential for the Upper Control Arm (UCA) to separate from the knuckle, and a failed rear differential. The most recent recall, announced on February 28, has been particularly troubling, as it has rendered my vehicle unsafe to drive or rent out, directly impacting my livelihood as I use this vehicle exclusively for Turo rentals. It has been over 30 days since the announcement of the recall, and I have received no indication of when the necessary repairs will be made available. A timeline for resolution exceeding 30 days for such a significant safety recall and the absence of interim support measures from the manufacturer has left me in a precarious position, both financially and in terms of vehicle safety. I am concerned about the frequency of recalls and the severity of the issues identified in such a new vehicle. Additionally, the extended period without a resolution or clear communication from the manufacturer exacerbates these concerns. I kindly request that NHTSA investigate the handling of this and previous recalls for the 2022 Jeep Grand Cherokee L to ensure that consumer safety and communication are adequately prioritized. Thank you for your attention to these matters. I trust that the NHTSA will take the necessary steps to address these concerns and improve the recall process for the safety and benefit of all consumers. Sincerely,

Defect Description:

ENGINE

Potential Consequences:

The brake force will jump suddenly and fall back when the brake pedal is even maintained at a constant level while the vehicle is being braked to a stop or decelerating. This malfunctioning will lead to imprecise control of the distance to the front vehicle. Engine Wobbling when it is fully stopped with "D" gear engaged, especially when the transmission temperature comes up after a few hours of driving. It can be clearly felt that the entire vehicle is bouncing with the engine. Engine misfires when crawling after a cold start. Engine speed will fall suddenly and then back up. The vehicle will shake badly, which can cause improper reaction and improper operation of the vehicle speed. The passenger seat squeezes the center console on the right side and the plastic panel comes off, which exposes a sharp edge to the passenger's lower body. After the dealer's inspection, there is no obvious cause for this defect, passenger and center console are all in their places. The rear quarter window on the passenger side water leak. Metal rattling noise from the left front side (driver side) of the cabin when the vehicle is running on a bumpy road, especially in hot weather. Noise comes from the rear left suspension when the vehicle is decelerating.

Defect Description:

SEATS

Potential Consequences:

I took car to dealership on 3/8/24 for maintenance. After the maintenance was completed i picked up the car, paid, took the report and went home. In reviewing the report, I noticed an outstanding recall 10B pending. The service advisor never mentioned this to me, not did I receive notification from Jeep. I proceeded to call the dealer and they simply advised me to call Jeep because they did not have parts and did not know when they would be available. I called Jeep and opened a case. I expressed I had reviewed this vehicle had a stop sale issues as per the recall, yet no parts available. They mentioned parts would not be available until after the 2nd quarter of this year. I asked that my call be escalated. Today, 3/14/23, I finally received a call from an agent mentioning my request for buy-back was denied. I expressed that this was not a buy back, but a lemon, because this car has had 2 recalls already and it took them amount over 5 months to fix it. I mentioned this was a critical safety issued as stated by them on the recall notification as it says ": A loss of clamp load may result in the UCA separating from the knuckle and the wheel falling outboard, which can cause a vehicle crash without prior warning." I drive my car with two small children and cannot afford to have a possible crash without warning. The agent told me he could put me on a recall list but it would be after the 2nd quarter that Jeep would start fixing these issues. The agent mentioned he could not see the reason why the buy back was denied. I asked for the call to be escalated to a supervisor. I am currently pending that call.

WHEELS

Potential Consequences:

I am writing to express my deep concern regarding the safety risk highlighted in the open recall 24V-132. Upon reviewing the details provided, particularly the issue involving the damaged pinch bolt which may break and lead to a loss of clamp load between the UCA ball joint and the knuckle, I am gravely concerned about the potential consequences. As someone who prioritizes the safety of myself, my loved ones, and others on the road, it is distressing to contemplate the possible ramifications of such a failure. The prospect of the UCA separating from the knuckle and the wheel subsequently falling outboard poses a significant threat not only to the occupants of the vehicle but also to other road users. In particular, the thought of being in a situation where the safety of my three children, or anyone else for that matter, is compromised due to this issue is deeply unsettling. The absence of prior warning exacerbates the seriousness of the situation, as it leaves little room for proactive measures to mitigate the risk. Given these circumstances, I implore you to take immediate action to address this safety concern and ensure the prompt implementation of necessary repairs or replacements as outlined in the recall. The well-being of everyone involved is paramount, and it is crucial that swift and decisive steps are taken to minimize the likelihood of any potential accidents or injuries. I appreciate your attention to this matter and trust that you will prioritize the safety of all individuals affected by this recall.

UNKNOWN OR OTHER

Potential Consequences:

I have had water leaking into the vehicle from the sunroof, down the driver side B pillar and filling the battery compartment under the driver seat and leaving the carpeting wet. I discovered this in early 2023 only because i placed my hand on the floor behind the driver seat and felt it was wet. In April of 2023 the Jeep dealer cleaned the sunroof drains but it kept leaking. In October of 2023 I took it back again and they said the sunroof was damaged from the manufacturer and it had to be replaced. I dropped of the vehicle on 12/22/2023 so they could install a new sunroof and picked it up on 1/3/2024. I then dropped it off again on 1/10/2024 as it was still leaking. I picked it up again on 1/23/2024 and they said the new sunroof is also damaged and needs to be replaced. As of 2/16/2024 the part has not arrived and water still come into the vehicle, soaking the carpet under the driver seat and driver side passenger floor, there is a wire harness that comes from the B pillar and towards the driver seat that is also wet and the batter compartment fills with water. Also since October the auto stop start feature which used to activate during every drive has not activated once, dealer keeps saying it is working as it should. If so why has it not activated in 4 months? Has the water intrusion caused this issue? Is the water intrusion going to cause mold, rust or electrical issues?

ELECTRICAL SYSTEM

Potential Consequences:

[XXX], I was driving down [XXX] toward Waynesboro GA, when the radio and dashboard lights started flashing. I assumed that maybe the truck system was resetting when all of a sudden the truck turned off, so I coasted into the middle turn lane on a two lane highway and then the truck filled with smoke from the air conditioning vent and underneath the dash so I attempted to exit the vehicle on the driver side. The truck would not start. Hazard lights would not work. Semi- trucks passing in both directions. My truck was then hit by debris from passing truck while truck was disabled in the middle of the road. The remaining 3 doors on the truck would not open. I had to have the car towed to the nearest Jeep dealership in Waynesboro GA. The dealership can't seem to figure out what's wrong with the truck but want to charge $900 to do a six hour diagnostic. I called Chrysler who is now sending out a third party to do a fire inspection but in the meantime I am out of a vehicle. VISIBILITY/WIPER

Potential Consequences:

In August 2023 a recall was issued for my vehicle (Recall 56A) for an issue with the Central Vision Park Assist Module. My CVPAM software was updated per the recall. As soon as this software was completed, my backup and forward facing camera has not functioned properly. Initially my backup camera guidelines disappeared and my forward facing camera guidelines would not turn off. My opened a "Star" case with Chrysler and worked on this issue for 3 months, replacing the camera, updating software, replacing two different camera modules and nothing would correct the issue. In November Chrysler told the dealer not to replace any more hardware and they acknowledged there was an issue with the software update that caused the problem. They informed my dealer that an update would come out to correct the issue in either a recall or a dealer notice. On [XXX] my backup camera and my front facing camera stopped working completely. I took my vehicle back to the dealer and they performed a diagnostic on the system. The same error codes were given to them as was before when only the guidelines were missing. My dealer opened another star case with Chrysler on 1/29/24 to look into the issue but as i write this complaint on 2/7/24 I have not received any additional info from my dealer or Chrysler as to when this issue will be corrected. I have been without a backup camera since [XXX] and I feel this is becoming a greater safety concern with all of the children in my neighborhood.
