Honda (American Honda Motor Co.) is recalling certain model year 2016 Honda Pilot 2WD vehicles manufactured May 4, 2015, to September 8, 2015 and 2016 Pilot 4WD vehicles manufactured May 7, 2015 to September 4, 2015. In the affected vehicles, when one of the safety systems such as tire pressure monitoring, anti-lock braking or electronic stability control malfunctions, there is potential that the instrument panel will not illuminate the corresponding warning light, however the warning lamps will illuminate when the ignition is turned off and then turned back on. As such, these vehicles fail to comply with the requirements of Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard (FMVSS) number 126, "Electronic stability control systems", number 135, "Light vehicle brake systems" and number 138, "Tire pressure monitoring systems".

WHEN MY CAR STOPS WHILE APPLYING THE BREAK PADDLE COMPLETELY, THE CAR MAY START 'IDLE STOP' WHICH TURNS OFF THE ENGINE. THE ENGINE MAY RESTART EITHER BY RELEASING THE BREAK PADDLE OR WHEN AC OR BATTERY NEEDS THE ENGINE TO TURN BACK ON. WE HAVE HAD MULTIPLE OCCURRENCES WHERE THE CAR WILL COMPLETELY RESET THE ELECTRICAL SYSTEM SHUTTING DOWN ALL THE LIGHTS, DISPLAYS, RADIO AND ENGINE, AND IT MAY OR MAY NOT RESTART THE ENGINE. SOMETIMES, IT REQUIRES MULTIPLE PRESSES OF THE ENGINE START BUTTON WHICH MAY TAKE MULTIPLE SECONDS AT A STOP. THIS CREATES A SAFETY HAZARD WHERE CARS BEHIND MAY REAR END US WHILE WE TRY TO RESTART. TODAY, IT HAPPENED TO MY WIFE IN MOTION AFTER THE ENGINE RESTARTED AND SHE WAS IN THE MIDDLE OF AN INTERSECTION. I WONDER IF THIS COULD EVEN HAPPEN ON A RAILWAY... WE REPORTED IT TWICE AND TRIED FIXING IT AT A HONDA SHOP (1ST TEXAS HONDA @ AUSTIN, TX), THEY MADE MULTIPLE CLAIMS INCLUDING BAD BATTERY THAT REQUIRED REPLACING IT (ISSUE STILL REOCCURRED), BLAMING IT ON A POWER CABLE THAT GOES TO AN OPTIONAL TRAILER HITCH CONNECTION THAT IS NOT IN USE, BUT HAVE NOT TRIED TRIED REPLACING THE FAULTY IDLE START/ENGINE MODULE. SEARCHING THRU THE INTERNET, THERE ARE MULTIPLE REPORTS OF THE SAME ISSUE. WHEN I DID A LITTLE RESEARCH, I FOUND THAT HONDA WAS GIVING EXTENDED WARRANTIES TO NEWER MODELS HAVING THE SAME ISSUE AND EVEN DOING RECALLS BUT MY VIN DIDN'T QUALIFY. A FEW MONTHS DOWN THE ROAD AND MY CAR STARTED HAVING SHIFTING PROBLEMS AGAIN. SO, I TAKE IT IN AND THEY ARE SAYING THE TRANSMISSION NEEDS TO BE SERVICED BUT THE SERVICE ONLY GETS A LITTLE BIT OF THE FLUID OUT SO THEY WANTED TO DO THE SERVICE 3 TIMES AND CHARGED ME FOR DOING THE SAME THING 3 TIMES. AFTER SOME RESEARCH, I FIND OUT THAT IT'S A KNOWN ISSUE THAT THEY ARE WILLING TO GIVE A LIMITED WARRANTY ON UP 80K MILES. MY CONCERN IS THAT I DON'T FEEL SAFE DRIVING ON THE HIGHWAY WITH SHIFTING ISSUES, STALLS AND JOLTS THAT HAVE HAPPENED WITHIN 4 MONTHS OF EACH OTHER. IF I WERE ON THE HIGHWAY WHEN THAT HAPPENED, GOING AT 60 MPH, IT WOULD HAVE CAUSED UNNECESSARY ACCIDENTS. IT'S DANGEROUS BUT, STILL NO RECALL FOR MY VEHICLE AND IT'S LIKE FIGHTING TOOTH AND TOENAIL WITH HONDA TO GET THEM TO DO WHAT IS RIGHT. I DON'T KNOW WHEN OR IF IT WILL HAPPEN AGAIN. I PURCHASED MY HONDA BRAND NEW. THIS VEHICLE NEEDS TO BE OFF THE ROADS UNTIL THE ISSUES ARE FIXED. I THINK I HAVE A LEMON!

SEVERAL TIMES WHILE STOPPED IN TRAFFIC OR AT A TRAFFIC LIGHT THE ENGINE STOP FEATURE HAS NOT WORKED PROPERLY. THE ENGINE TURNS OFF COMPLETELY AND DOES NOT AUTOMATICALLY RESTART. THE SUV HAS TO BE PLACED IN PARK AND RESTARTED MANUALLY. I PLAN ON BRINGING IT IN NEXT WEEK TO HAVE THEM LOOK INTO IT.
