Honda (American Honda Motor Co.) is recalling certain model year 2016 Honda Pilot 2WD vehicles manufactured May 4, 2015, to September 8, 2015 and 2016 Pilot 4WD vehicles manufactured May 7, 2015 to September 4, 2015. In the affected vehicles, when one of the safety systems such as tire pressure monitoring, anti-lock braking or electronic stability control malfunctions, there is potential that the instrument panel will not illuminate the corresponding warning light, however the warning lamps will illuminate when the ignition is turned off and then turned back on. As such, these vehicles fail to comply with the requirements of Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard (FMVSS) number 126, "Electronic stability control systems", number 135, "Light vehicle brake systems" and number 138, "Tire pressure monitoring systems".

Potential Consequences:
WHEN COMING TO A COMPLETE STOP, THE AUTO START/STOP WILL FAIL RANDOMLY. THIS THEN LEAVES THE DRIVER STUCK FOR UP TO 1 MINUTE IN TRAFFIC WITH THE CAR UNRESPONSIVE TO THE START BUTTON. THIS ISSUE HAS BEEN BROUGHT TO HONDA SERVICE STATIONS IN BOTH GEORGIA AND OHIO. AFTER REPLACEMENTS OF BATTERIES, AS PER HONDA RECOMMENDATIONS, THERE IS STILL NO REMEDY FOR THE PROBLEM. A DRIVER COULD EASILY BE REAR-ENDED AND ULTIMATELY HARMED WHEN LEFT STRANDED ON A BUSY STREET WITH NO ABILITY TO START THE CAR BACK IN A TIMELY FASHION. WHEN PROGRESSING FROM FIRST TO SECOND GEAR, THIS MODEL VIOLENTLY JERKS. THIS HAPPENS DESPITE TIMELY SERVICE EXCLUSIVELY ONE AT HONDA SERVICE STATIONS. EACH TIME IT IS REPORTED, MY WIFE IS TOLD THAT IT IS NORMAL FOR THIS VEHICLE. ULTIMATELY IT APPEARS TO BE A TRANSMISSION ISSUE TO WHICH HONDA WILL NOT ADMIT FAULT.
Corrective Action:
WHEN COMING TO A COMPLETE STOP, THE AUTO START/STOP WILL FAIL RANDOMLY. THIS THEN LEAVES THE DRIVER STUCK FOR UP TO 1 MINUTE IN TRAFFIC WITH THE CAR UNRESPONSIVE TO THE START BUTTON. SHORTLY AFTER I AM HAVING PROBLEM WITH START BUTTON WHICH WON'T START ONE PRESS, I HAVE TO PRESS MANY TIMES TO START THE CAR... I HAVE CHANGED MY KEY FOB BATTERY, AND STILL HAVE SAME PROBLEMS. DEALERSHIP WON'T COVER THIS ISSUE ONCE THE CAR DROVE OVER 30,000 MILES. I DID RESEARCH ON THIS ISSUE SPECIFICALLY HONDA PILOT 2016 MODEL. THERE ARE A LOT PEOPLE WHO HAVE SAME ISSUES. I AM AFRAID THAT MY CAR WON'T START ONE DAY. NEVER HAD ISSUE WITH OTHER HONDA MODELS... ALSO THIS MODEL 2016 HONDA PILOT HAS ISSUE WITH MUSIC DASHBOARD, EXAMPLE: THE RADIO DISPLAY WILL BLACK OUT DURING WHEN I AM DRIVING, SO HAD TO TURN OFF MY CAR AND TURN ON TO GET MY RADIO DISPLAY BACK OR ALL OF SUDDEN I CAN NOT CHANGE THE MUSIC VOLUME ETC... GOD KNOWS WHAT IS THE NEXT PROBLEM?!

I BOUGHT A CPO 2016 HONDA PILOT EX 3/23/2019. I HAVE A TRANSMISSION JERKING ISSUE AND BRING BACK TO FREEWAY HONDA, SANTA ANA, IN SEP 2019. THEY FLUSH THE ATF AND THE SITUATION TURNS BACK DAYS LATER. I BRING IT BACK IN 1/29/2020 AND ASK FOR SAME TRANSMISSION ISSUE. BUT THEY SHOW TIRE PRESSURE CHECK ON THE INVOICE. I REALLY WONDERED THEY TRY TO HIDE THE DEFECT AND WON'T FIND OUT ANY PROBLEM IN THIS VEHICLE BY SEARCHING ITS VIN NUMBER. THE TRANSMISSION PROBLEM IS HARD TO SHIFT WHEN 3RD TO 4TH, 28-32 MPH; HARD TO SHIFT WHEN DOWNSHIFT 3RD TO 2ND IN AROUND 22 MPH.
