STEERING
Potential Consequences:
Sticky steering. Happens are speeds at 45mph and above. The steering wheel sticks slightly when turning one way or another. This has been going on for about 9 or 10 months. It is available for inspection on request. It could, or would comprise my ability to navigate safely on the road. My independent service center confirms the problem, but in the beginning he didn't notice the problem. A local Honda dealer checked for the problem in the early period, but said they didn't feel the problem. It seemed to get worse over time. No warning lamps, messages have ever appeared. My service center says the problem is not in the bearing, but probably in the electronics.

STEERING
Potential Consequences:
Steering becomes sticky after the vehicle is warmed up. Traveling at highway speed ( 60 mph and above ) becomes challenging trying to correct for lane adjustments. The steering wheel feels or has a tighten spot from center both right or left directions. This causes an over correction while driving. Also there is a clicking sound when going though the sticky spot moving the wheel right or left. This vehicle has 30k plus. My Honda dealer denies knowing of any problems with the electronic steering in their vehicles.

Defect Description:
UNKNOWN OR OTHER
Potential Consequences:
I purchased a 2018 Civic that is showing severe paint failure around the mirrors and doors of the vehicle. This is an extremely common manufacturing defect that is documented through formal cases opened with Honda, consumer reports, news reports, and dealership inquiries. Severely flaking paint can cause blind spots and vision problems due to sun reactions to exposed metal, driving distractions as paint chips fly off vehicle, environmental pollution, and damage to critical components through rust and water damage.

Defect Description:
UNKNOWN OR OTHER
Potential Consequences:
Air conditioning not blowing cold air. Took vehicle to Honda dealer. I was told that A/C will need to be recharged with Freon and dye, the cost is $299.95 Once recharged, the A/C will need to be re inspected for further leaks in the A/C system. The A/C compressor seal shaft and the A/C condenser, these two parts, the warranty has been extended by Honda. The A/C evaporator is not covered by Honda warranty. It is a well documented fact that Honda’s A/C systems on the 2018 Civic has defective components. It appears that the R1234yf refrigerant used in these systems is deteriorating the A/C components. Honda has responded to this situation by extending the warranty on the condenser and compressor seal shaft to 10 years from date of purchase. However, to date they have refused to extend the warranty on the evaporator and other components of the system. Typically, evaporator last the lifetime of a vehicle, or at least 10 to 15 years. It is unfair for Honda to charge $299.95 to inspect a system that is known to be faulty, and to saddle the customer with another $2200.00 if the evaporator is found to be leaking. The entire A/C system should be covered by the 10 year extended warranty. Because if the system is functioning as it should, there would be no leaks, and therefore no need to recharge with Freon and dye.

Additional Notes:
My Honda is only at 80,000 miles and my fuel pump has gone bad already and I wanted to look into this as I feel it’s not right to have my car die in me so early in it’s life for something that should last much longer

Defect Description:
STEERING
Potential Consequences:
Is there a service bulletin for our 2018 Civic Si for sticky steering? The longer we drive, the worse the sticky spot gets. It takes enough manual force to overcome that it overcorrects when it breaks loose. Leads to a lot of heavy handed weaving when I intend to be going straight and effortless for hundreds of miles. Recurs frequently on every long trip but seems worse in summertime. Happens at all speeds. Started around 50,000 miles and has continued to the present 133,000 miles. I worked in the aerospace industry for many years, and we had a common problem that may be relevant. Electric motors in a DC system, require a capacitive circuit to build up energy to start motor movement. Liquid filled capacitors are inherently cheaper, but they dry out over time and use which leads to failure of the capacitor and degraded motor performance (especially start up delays). Higher grade capacitors for the electric motor may have been overlooked, but may be the solution to the problem.

Defect Description:
WHEELS
Potential Consequences:
Driving at 70mph I got a low tire pressure alert followed shortly thereafter by the left rear tire separating entirely from the rim and started rolling down the highway as I pulled off the side of the road. Very nearly lost control of the vehicle.

FORWARD COLLISION AVOIDANCE: ADAPTIVE CRUISE CONTROL
Potential Consequences:
I got the car with Honda Sensing to include adaptive cruise control, lane departure warning, and forward collision warning. All these systems stopped working within 36 month and under 36000 miles. Honda dealership wants more than $2500 for a fix that I read on the internet does not seems to solve the problem. Many people report that the problem is either not solved or it recurs within 6 months.
