SERVICE BRAKES

Potential Consequences:

At low speeds, the brakes are unpredictable. Sometimes they grab hard, other times not. Sometimes there is a loud clunk associated with this low speed braking. I don’t know the cause, but it leaves the driver uncertain how much pressure to apply in braking situations. Snowy conditions are especially hard to navigate. Ford has issued a TSB for the problem which I am in line to have completed. But early feedback indicates that the offered fix only partially resolves the problem.

SERVICE BRAKES

Potential Consequences:

The brakes are hesitant to stop while creeping forwards, then they slam on. There is also a clunking noise when stopping, usually hear it around the last five ft of the stopping distance. I have 11k miles and just needed to replace the transmission. I lost acceleration while on the highway, no warnings or engine light until a few hours after this happened. Dealer stated that this was the transmission. The truck would also almost lock in place while in drive and not level (like at a red light). It would not let go for a few seconds after releasing the brake pedal. I was also told this was the transmission. After the transmission was replaced, the same day, my engine started making a very loud clunking noise and lurching forward while parked in the driveway. This is the Hybrid version of the 2022 Ford Maverick. This is unsafe in general. Losing acceleration on the highway could have caused an accident, luckily did not. Also not being able to move when the traffic light changes poses the same safety risk. This truck is currently back at the dealership undergoing investigation to the the loud noises in the engine. I was also told that the airbag recall would not be fixed unless they deploy.

SERVICE BRAKES

Potential Consequences:

The brakes will suddenly and almost violently grab when travelling at low speeds (be!ow 10 mph). Like through a parking lot or parking garage or driveway. It doesn't happen every time, but it does occur a few times every day. Tbe brake grabbing is sudden and unexpected. The sudden stop throws tbe occupants and contents of the truck foward. I believe this to be a hazzard and needs to be corrected by Ford.

SERVICE BRAKES

Potential Consequences:

The brakes often GRAB and CLUNK when BRAKING AT SLOW SPEEDS. This is an intermittent (yet common) problem which occurs when coming to a stop, slowly pulling forward after already having made a stop, creeping forward to check for oncoming traffic and other similar scenarios. The noise and feel of this sensation is startling when it occurs, therefore making it unsafe! I have inquired with two dealer service departments. One said it was a common problem for the hybrid and nothing was wrong. I stated I owned a FORD hybrid for six years, as well as other hybrids and none of them had this issue. He then said it was "due to the weight of the vehicle". The second was unaware of any problems and said I could make an appointment, but they wouldn't be able to try to fix it unless they could recreate the problem.

SERVICE BRAKES

Potential Consequences:

Two issues with my 2022 Hybrid Maverick: First, the brakes are unpredictable. Often in slow moving situations, the brakes fail to engage until I ultimately have to floor the pedal often causing a grinding noise and abrupt stop. Attempts to slowly brake sometime fail. Passengers in truck are thrusted forward when this occurs and I often feel like I am going to rear end someone. Brakes will be assessed next week at my local FORD dealer in conjunction with the engine problem. For a SECOND TIME my ENGINE FAILED WHILE ACCELERATING on 55 mph highway. As I normally accelerated to cross the Choptank River bridge in MD, the engine revved but the car failed to accelerate, the engine malfunction came on and a red box saying to pull over safely. Having experienced this before, I knew I had to get off the highway. I barely made it across two lanes of traffic to pull off to the adjacent fishing pier. I noticed my electric power was a low as my window would barely move. I turned off the car and called my dealer. They advised that I could get a tow or if I felt safe, and the car turned back on, to drive it in even though the malfunction light was still on. So I drove it home Friday night and it goes to the dealer on Monday. However, this engine failure happened to me once before in early December which required a tow in to the dealer. Again, I was normally accelerating on RT.695 when the engine revved but the truck slowed/stopped in a exit/merge area. I did not have enough power to get to the shoulder so I managed to pull over into the small area of the merge/on ramp. At this time my car went into a Deep Sleep, nothing worked. Once towed to the dealer, they assessed my car had an "old" battery in it and replaced it. Guess it wasn't the battery since my engine has failed again. Also, since the first engine failure, my overall gas mileage only averages 35 mpg but before these episodes I averaged 41mpg for 8 months. Feeling VERY UNSAFE in my Maverick now!

Additional Notes:

SERVICE BRAKES

Potential Consequences:

This small Ford 2022 truck is a brand new first year of its type Hybrid, with electrical regenerative braking. The 2022-2023 Ford Maverick Hybrid system attempts to use electrical regenerative braking at speeds that are too low to generate a braking effect. When creeping forward in stop-and-go traffic below 10 mph, depressing the brake pedal has zero effect on slowing the truck down. Numerous times I have been in situations that required what I might refer to as sensitive, gentle or careful braking where one might "drag" on the brake to creep forward in traffic or parking. That is nearly impossible and NOT consistent with the brakes on the Hybrid Ford truck. Depressing the brake pedal with a heavy foot does engage the hydraulic brakes to finally stop the vehicle. But it also does it in a very sudden way, causing passengers items in the back seat or bed to be forced forward, as in a sudden crash. This has been a problem since I took delivery of the vehicle and I’ve had many close calls in traffic thanks to this defect. My wife hates to ride (and will not drive the vehicle) in city driving situations. No warning lights are associated with this problem.

SERVICE BRAKES

Potential Consequences:

Brakes: ford already issued a TSB but this is more recall level issue (22-2493). At low speeds the breaks as applied so not work and then eventually “wake up” and grab hard due to the operator having to press much harder on the brakes to engage. This is not safe and should be a full recall with an investigation. There are many threads that discuss this on the internet, I am also experiencing it. It’s a matter of time before someone gets rearended because the Maverick brakes don’t work at low speeds well. Separately, flashing lights from the sun through the trees triggered a early collision warning for me once which I thought was odd. The cause is a guess but there were not other cars in front of me.

SERVICE BRAKES

Potential Consequences:

This is a hybrid braking issue where an extreme loud 'clunk' noise which can be felt coming from under the car at low speed less than 10 miles an hour when braking the car. In addition, the brakes seem to not engage properly at stop and go traffic forcing driver to stomp on the brakes to make the car stop. The brakes sometimes won't release after stopping forcing the driver to hit the throttle where the car suddenly lunges forward after the sudden release of the brakes. The Forward Collision warning also comes on unexpectedly without having another car in front of me. Happened twice since ownership of the car. Seems to be common in cold weather.

SERVICE BRAKES

Potential Consequences:

Hybrid Maverick: The brakes grab so abruptly while coming to a stop. It will jerk your upper body forward. Sometimes the brakes won't grab until the very last second. It feels like the transition from Hybrid braking to mechanical braking is lethargic then grabs all of a sudden. In stop and go traffic there is a lack of confidence that the brakes will actually stop you in time. It literally hit or miss. Very dangerous and jarring. It is not something that the driver can get used to through muscle memory. As the driver you have zero control over this action. Anything slow and/or at a downward slope in traffic will make you cringe.

SERVICE BRAKES

Potential Consequences:

When I go to stop the vehicle brakes take longer to catch on to stop the vehicle. This has been an ongoing problem since vehicle pick up March 2022. I drove my truck in the last snow fall we received and when I went to brake it was much worse than in normal conditions. It felt like I slid into the stop and had to push the brakes really hard and my kids heads jerked trying to brake. Clearly is a safety issue. When I was in a drive thru waiting for my food the truck jerked forward and it felt like the transmission was falling out.
