While driving at highway speeds the vehicle lost power due to a main crankshaft bearing failure. The vehicle was repaired at a Ford Dealer and was not under warranty at the time. ENGINE

Potential Consequences:

Initially the cars check engine light came on intermittently for about 3 days, then one day while driving the wrench light came on and the car immediately started decelerating - almost as if I was breaking hard, and would not accelerate over 30. After turning it on and off multiple times the light went away for days until my appointment with the mechanic, that same day it came back on. We went to a Ford dealership and they said it was the throttle body and repaired it. Two weeks later the same issue occurred. I know this was a big issue in 2016 and earlier models, I believe the problem was never fixed in 2017 models. Our car is currently in the shop and they are "emailing Ford" about what to do. The first incident I was on the interstate when I stopped abruptly and the second was on the highway. I luckily had no one behind me both times otherwise this could've easily caused an accident.

STRUCTURE:BODY

Potential Consequences:

While driving on a public road at approximately 55 mph the passenger side windshield trim piece flew off of my car. Fortunately, the piece did not strike any other vehicles on the road. I am now concerned that the driver's side windshield trim will also fly off while I am driving. At this time, Ford does not have a safety recall for this item. I have received a recall notice for another item. The notice indicates, "On your vehicle, it may be possible for the roof rail covers to become loose or detach from the vehicle". I scheduled an appointment to have this repaired but the service technician told me that they are not able to resolve the issue at this time. Apparently the initial "fix" did not work and Ford is trying to find another solution. These removable parts are a huge safety risk for everyone on the road. A recall and permanent solution is required to keep motorist safe. Thank you.

ENGINE

Potential Consequences:

What component or system failed or malfunctioned, and is it available for inspection upon request? I have been experiencing the smell of gas/exhaust leaking into the cabin. How was your safety or the safety of others put at risk? I am concern with the health issues that this smell could put my family and I in. Specially if theirs a possibility that carbon monoxide could be leaking into the cabin. Has the problem been reproduced or confirmed by a dealer or independent service center? No Has the vehicle or component been inspected by the manufacturer, police, insurance representatives or others? I had the vehicle inspected by Ford but they advise that they couldn’t reproduce the smell. They also advice that their were a two drain plugs missing in the lift gate which would resolve the issue if replaced. I have replaced the two missing plugs and continue to experience the issue. Were there any warning lamps, messages or other symptoms of the problem prior to the failure, and when did they first appear?no

Potential Consequences:

We have approximately 37000 miles on our 2017 Explorer. While driving on the interstate yesterday, it began making a near continuous wind vibration sound around the windshield. We stopped several times on our trip trying to determine where the sound was coming from—roof rack, something under hood, trim pieces, windshield support areas?—but we’re never able to find cause or stop the noise. We have an appointment at a Ford dealership later this week.

TIRES

Potential Consequences:

On 5/21/2021 a Police Officer for the Iowa Tribe Police Department located in Perkins, Oklahoma was responding to a call and had just been canceled when the driver-side rear tire tread separated from the tire and it blew out. The officer's safety was at risk had she not been canceled and slowed down some or this could've resulted in a rollover or some other traffic collision possibly injuring or killing the officer or other individuals on the roadway. Direct Discount Tire in Stillwater Oklahoma is unaware of any recalls with this tire and have offered to help replace the tire. The tire hasn't been inspected by the manufacturer as I am unaware who manufactured this tire. Upon researching Nokian tire through the internet I discovered that Nokian Tires have had issues in the past for tread separation. The earliest I could fine may have been around 2016. There were no warning lamps and these tires were purchased and put on this vehicle brand new since February 2021. My concern is that there may be a manufacture default causing these tires to have tread separation. I am concerned because this is the brand of tire recommended for police unit bu Direct Discount. I am concerned an officer could be injured or killed in a crash if this is a defect by the manufacturer and we are getting much needed patrol vehicle tore up in the process.
