Ford Motor Company
NHTSA Campaign: 22V413000 SAFETY RECALL
2.9M Vehicles Affected
Recall Date: Jun 10, 2022
Safety Issue:

Ford Motor Company (Ford) is recalling certain 2013-2019 Escape, 2013-2018 C-Max, 2013-2016 Fusion, 2013-2021 Transit Connect, and 2015-2018 Edge vehicles. The bushing that attaches the shifter cable to the transmission may degrade or detach.

Potential Risk:
A damaged or missing bushing may prevent the vehicle from shifting into the intended gear, and cause the vehicle to move in an unexpected direction. Additionally, the vehicle may roll after the driver selects the 'Park' position. Either scenario increases the risk of a crash or injury.
FREE Recall Solution:
Dealers will replace the under hood shift bushing and add a protective cap over the shift cable bushing, free of charge. Interim owner notification letters, informing owners of the safety risk, were mailed July 1, 2022. Remedy parts are expected to be available in 4th Quarter 2022. Owner notification letters were mailed October 27, 2022. Owners may contact Ford customer service at 1-866-436-7332. Ford's number for this recall is 22S43.
Additional Details:

Owners may also contact the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration Vehicle Safety Hotline at 1-888-327-4236 (TTY 1-800-424-9153), or go to www.nhtsa.gov.

Recall Date: Aug 11, 2020
Safety Issue:

Ford Motor Company (Ford) is recalling certain 2015-2018 Ford Edge and 2016-2018 Lincoln MKX vehicles. The front brake hoses may rupture prematurely.

Potential Risk:
A ruptured front brake hose will cause a brake fluid leak, lengthening the distance needed to stop the vehicle, increasing the risk of a crash.
FREE Recall Solution:
Ford will notify owners, and dealers will replace the front brake hoses with the new hoses that have a revised braid material, free of charge. Parts are not currently available. An interim letter notifying owners of the safety risk was mailed September 21, 2020. A second letter will be sent once parts are available, which is expected to begin April 15, 2021. VEHICLE SPEED CONTROL

Potential Consequences:

I am told my APIM module needs to be replaced. My touch screen will go black and then come back on. I am unable to use handsfree phone due to system not staying connected to my bluetooth. The radio will not turn off or on and sometimes will come on and be blaring while driving. The GPS does not work at all and if it decides to even show up on the screen will not follow streets at all. The warning sounds and lights will go off randomly while driving even if I am not close to something on the sides of my car. My backup cameras do not work all the time. The cruise control will not keep distance and will stop working randomly. The entire touch screen will not respond to any touch. These items are very distracting and unsafe at best. There has been no accidents to cause these problems. The manufacturer has not been able to help me locate any replacement parts despite pre-paying for the expensive module. I have been waiting 6 weeks without anyone being able to tell me when a module is expected. Meanwhile I do not know what else will stop working on my car. Ford has had a history of problems with the APIM modules and there was even a class action suit that was won by the consumer for the same thing in Lincoln vehicles. I just want the part and for my car to be fixed.

ENGINE

Potential Consequences:

(EcoBoost Engine) I took my Ford Edge to Art Hill Ford in Merrillville, Indiana because of coolant lost, overheating, engine sputtering and check engine light. The truck was diagnosed with coolant entering the number 3 cylinder. Cost to repair $5,725.00. The truck needs an engine. I was told by a service adviser that this is a problem that is common and known by ford. That Ford had previously help some of their customers with the cost to repair this problem. I was given a service number to call. I called the number and was told that ford would not help in any way with this problem. Doing research this is an ongoing problem with the head gaskets for this engine. Known by ford for years. This problem causing loss of engine power or failure, overheating, and or fire.

Additional Notes:

ENGINE

Potential Consequences:

The engine in our 2017 Ford Edge leaks coolant into the cylinders, causing misfire and posing a fire hazard. We took our vehicle into the shop due to a check engine light and low coolant warning that came on randomly and were informed we needed a new engine. The check engine light never blinked to alert us of the misfiring cylinder. The mechanic noted that cylinder 1 was "full of coolant." The service advisor cited a technical service bulletin 22-2224 that detailed the defect of the engine on several models of vehicles across several years. There is no recall on the defect. The service advisor stated that Ford has been aware of the issue for years and redesigned the engine as a result. We were never notified about the potential issue.

The car was burning antifreeze. So we tore the engine apart thinking it was a head gasket and found the cylinder the antifreeze was going into was also cracked. I think that is why Ford is making people to pay for a new engine. For the antifreeze go into the cylinder that have the Cleveland engine. And they don't what to pay for the defect in the engine.
