Ford Motor Company
NHTSA Campaign: 22V413000 SAFETY RECALL
2.9M Vehicles Affected
Recall Date: Jun 10, 2022
Safety Issue:

Ford Motor Company (Ford) is recalling certain 2013-2019 Escape, 2013-2018 C-Max, 2013-2016 Fusion, 2013-2021 Transit Connect, and 2015-2018 Edge vehicles. The bushing that attaches the shifter cable to the transmission may degrade or detach.

Potential Risk:
A damaged or missing bushing may prevent the vehicle from shifting into the intended gear, and cause the vehicle to move in an unexpected direction. Additionally, the vehicle may roll after the driver selects the 'Park' position. Either scenario increases the risk of a crash or injury.
FREE Recall Solution:
Dealers will replace the under hood shift bushing and add a protective cap over the shift cable bushing, free of charge. Interim owner notification letters, informing owners of the safety risk, were mailed July 1, 2022. Remedy parts are expected to be available in 4th Quarter 2022. Owner notification letters were mailed October 27, 2022. Owners may contact Ford customer service at 1-866-436-7332. Ford's number for this recall is 22S43.

Recall Date: Aug 11, 2020
Safety Issue:

Ford Motor Company (Ford) is recalling certain 2015-2018 Ford Edge and 2016-2018 Lincoln MKX vehicles. The front brake hoses may rupture prematurely.

Potential Risk:
A ruptured front brake hose will cause a brake fluid leak, lengthening the distance needed to stop the vehicle, increasing the risk of a crash.
FREE Recall Solution:
Ford will notify owners, and dealers will replace the front brake hoses with the new hoses that have a revised braid material, free of charge. Parts are not currently available. An interim letter notifying owners of the safety risk was mailed September 21, 2020. A second letter will be sent once parts are available, which is expected to begin April 15, 2021. Owner notification letters were mailed on May 13, 2021. Owners may contact Ford customer service at 1-866-436-7332. Ford's number for this recall is 20S42.

NHTSA Campaign: 19V632000 SAFETY RECALL
116.2K Vehicles Affected
Recall Date: Aug 29, 2019
Safety Issue:

Ford Motor Company (Ford) is recalling certain 2013-2016 Ford Fusion and Lincoln MKZ, 2015-2016 Ford Edge, and 2016 Lincoln MKX vehicles originally sold, or currently registered in Connecticut, Delaware, the District of Columbia, Illinois, Indiana, Iowa, Maine, Maryland, Massachusetts, Michigan, Minnesota, Missouri, New Hampshire, New Jersey, New York, Ohio, Pennsylvania, Rhode Island, Vermont, West Virginia, and Wisconsin. Road salt or other contaminants may corrode the electric power steering gear motor attachment bolts.

Potential Risk:
If the bolts corrode, the steering gear motor may detach from the gear housing resulting in a loss of power steering assist, requiring a greater steering effort, especially at lower speeds, and increasing the risk of a crash.
FREE Recall Solution:
Ford will notify owners, and dealers will replace the steering gear motor bolts and apply a wax sealer. If any of the steering gear motor attachment bolts are broken or missing, a new steering gear will be installed in the vehicle. These repairs will be performed free of charge. The recall began October 18, 2019. Owners may contact Ford customer service at 1-866-436-7332. Ford's number for this recall is 19S26.

Recall Date: Feb 27, 2017
Safety Issue:

Ford Motor Company (Ford) is recalling certain 2016-2017 Ford Edge and Lincoln MKX vehicles and 2017 Lincoln Continental vehicles. In the event of a crash, the driver's frontal air bag may not fully inflate or the air bag cushion may detach from the air bag module. As such, these vehicles fail to comply with the requirements of Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard (FMVSS) number 208, "Occupant Crash Protection."

Potential Risk:
During deployment, if the air bag does not fully inflate or the cushion detaches, there is an increased risk of injury in the event of a crash.
FREE Recall Solution:
Ford will notify owners, and dealers will replace the driver frontal air bag module, free of charge. The recall began June 16, 2017. Owners may contact Ford customer service at 1-866-436-7332. Ford's number for this recall is 17C02.

Safety Issue:

Ford Motor Company (Ford) is recalling certain model year 2015-2016 Ford Edge vehicles manufactured February 9, 2015, to August 12, 2016. During dealer servicing, the affected vehicles may be have been updated with incorrect Antilock Brake System (ABS) and Electronic Stability Control (ESC) software. This software can cause the ESC system to lose engine torque control, and not provide any warning lamps to warn the driver if there was an ABS or ESC system malfunction. As such, these vehicles fail to comply with the requirements of Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard (FMVSS) number 126, "Electronic Stability Control Systems" and number 135, "Light Vehicle Brake Systems."

Potential Risk:

ENGINE

Potential Consequences:

May 31, 2022 My check-engine light came on a few days earlier. I took it in to my automotive repair shop for a diagnostic to determine the issue. It was determined that cylinder #4 was misfiring. The coil was identified as faulty and replaced. Diagnostic cost: $149.99 Replacement coil parts and labor: $163.75 June 2, 2022 Check-engine light comes on again. automotive repair shop replaces the spark plug in cylinder #4 as a precaution, even though the spark plugs were less than a year old. No charge. June 6, 2022 Check-engine light comes on again. This time I mentioned to the mechanic that the car briefly misfires after it sits overnight. I could also smell a coolant odor. This was their “ah-hah” moment. They removed the plug from cylinder #4, pressurized the coolant system and noticed coolant leaking into the cylinder. A phone call to Ford confirmed that this was an issue and the only repair; engine replacement. June 7, 2022 – June 17, 2022 The engine was replaced. Total cost: $6,543.59 While I waited, I scoured the Internet and did some research into this issue. I found that I am not the only one who has had this problem. This is an issue with the Ford 2.0 Liter Turbocharged engine, even at miles much less than my 121,958.

POWER TRAIN

Potential Consequences:

On June 30, 2021 I and my husband just arrived home. My husband had been hospitalized 10 days and was still very weak. I was bringing him home and once I was in the driveway I put the car in park and got out and went to him on the passenger side to help him out. I took him inside and got him settled. When I returned outside to retrieve items from the vehicle, I reached in on the driver side to push the start button to turn off the engine. Immediately the vehicle started rolling and I was knocked down by the door and drug 20-30 feet . The front driver tire ran over my hand and continued to roll into the yard of the house across the street. the neighbor called for an ambulance and I was taken to the hospital. I was treated for road rash and released. I was thankful to be alive under the circumstances but was still concerned for my husband and had no idea why the car rolled. As far as my safety I feel that this could have killed me and or possibly the small child that lives next door had he been out on his tricycle as he often is outside playing. I have not had the vehicle inspected because I thought maybe I had somehow done something to cause it to roll but I know I did not. I am assuming that this recall # 22S43 is likely the reason. I was made aware of this issue with certain years and models by a family member. I did not get any type of warning . I am enclosing pictues where I was injured. Prior to the accident, I had full use of my hands but I still have limited use with my right hand as the two middle fingers are often inflamed and a surgeon later confirmed they had been broken but I was not told at the time of the accident. Possibly because they were so swollen. My hand hurts all of the time and a hand surgeon said he would have to rebreak the fingers to repair the damage.

When getting tires rotated found out that the lug nuts on my wheels had expanded and had to get them removed by force. Found out this has been occurring to other Ford vehicles for years. Now I have replacement lug nuts that extend too far out and if hitting a curb or something would definitely ruin the wheel. Should not be having this type of issue at my expense for faulty lug nuts.

No warning lamps, messages, or other symptoms appeared prior to the soft brake pedal. I took the vehicle to a local dealer (Priority Ford in Norfolk VA, see invoice for phone and address), who diagnosed it as leaking rear brake lines and replaced two lines. My safety and the safety of others was certainly put at risk. The reason I knew how to recognize and respond to the brake leak was that it has happened to me before -- my 2016 Ford Edge had a front brake line fail earlier, prior to Ford issuing a safety recall for front brake line leaks. Now my rear brake lines have failed... I suspect it warrants a similar safety recall.

ENGINE

Potential Consequences:

Not having the vehicle for that long, I came across the check engine light that went off. The code that mechanics pulled was a misfire in a cylinder. I thought this would be an easy fix of spark plugs and plug wires. This was not the case. I spent $200 at a mechanic shop that said it was a fuel injector problem. This did not fix it because they would clear the code and it came back. They did further research and found out there is a Technical service bulletin report. TSB 19-2346. I took it to Ford and they gave me the print up of what needed to be repaired. Cost over six thousand dollars to repair. I was wondering why I had to buy coolant at one point as the level would drop. It was leaking into the cylinder. I would get the white smoke coming from my exhaust as well. My safety issue was that it would overheat and possibly catch fire from other cases I heard. The dealership confirmed the issue and they are well aware of the problem since 2019.
