Ford Motor Company
NHTSA Campaign: 22V413000 SAFETY RECALL
2.9M Vehicles Affected
Recall Date: Jun 10, 2022
Safety Issue:

Ford Motor Company (Ford) is recalling certain 2013-2019 Escape, 2013-2018 C-Max, 2013-2016 Fusion, 2013-2021 Transit Connect, and 2015-2018 Edge vehicles. The bushing that attaches the shifter cable to the transmission may degrade or detach.

Potential Risk:
A damaged or missing bushing may prevent the vehicle from shifting into the intended gear, and cause the vehicle to move in an unexpected direction. Additionally, the vehicle may roll after the driver selects the 'Park' position. Either scenario increases the risk of a crash or injury.
FREE Recall Solution:
Dealers will replace the under hood shift bushing and add a protective cap over the shift cable bushing, free of charge. Interim owner notification letters, informing owners of the safety risk, were mailed July 1, 2022. Remedy parts are expected to be available in 4th Quarter 2022. Owner notification letters were mailed October 27, 2022. Owners may contact Ford customer service at 1-866-436-7332. Ford's number for this recall is 22S43.

Recall Date: Aug 11, 2020
Safety Issue:

Ford Motor Company (Ford) is recalling certain 2015-2018 Ford Edge and 2016-2018 Lincoln MKX vehicles. The front brake hoses may rupture prematurely.

Potential Risk:
A ruptured front brake hose will cause a brake fluid leak, lengthening the distance needed to stop the vehicle, increasing the risk of a crash.
FREE Recall Solution:
Ford will notify owners, and dealers will replace the front brake hoses with the new hoses that have a revised braid material, free of charge. Parts are not currently available. An interim letter notifying owners of the safety risk was mailed September 21, 2020. A second letter will be sent once parts are available, which is expected to begin April 15, 2021. Owner notification letters were mailed on May 13, 2021. Owners may contact Ford customer service at 1-866-436-7332. Ford's number for this recall is 20S42.

NHTSA Campaign: 19V632000 SAFETY RECALL
116.2K Vehicles Affected
Recall Date: Aug 29, 2019
Safety Issue:

Ford Motor Company (Ford) is recalling certain 2013-2016 Ford Fusion and Lincoln MKZ, 2015-2016 Ford Edge, and 2016 Lincoln MKX vehicles originally sold, or currently registered in Connecticut, Delaware, the District of Columbia, Illinois, Indiana, Iowa, Maine, Maryland, Massachusetts, Michigan, Minnesota, Missouri, New Hampshire, New Jersey, New York, Ohio, Pennsylvania, Rhode Island, Vermont, West Virginia, and Wisconsin. Road salt or other contaminants may corrode the electric power steering gear motor attachment bolts.

Potential Risk:
If the bolts corrode, the steering gear motor may detach from the gear housing resulting in a loss of power steering assist, requiring a greater steering effort, especially at lower speeds, and increasing the risk of a crash.
FREE Recall Solution:
Ford will notify owners, and dealers will replace the steering gear motor bolts and apply a wax sealer. If any of the steering gear motor attachment bolts are broken or missing, a new steering gear will be installed in the vehicle. These repairs will be performed free of charge. The recall began October 18, 2019. Owners may contact Ford customer service at 1-866-436-7332. Ford's number for this recall is 19S26.

Recall Date: Feb 27, 2017
Safety Issue:

Ford Motor Company (Ford) is recalling certain 2016-2017 Ford Edge and Lincoln MKX vehicles and 2017 Lincoln Continental vehicles. In the event of a crash, the driver's frontal air bag may not fully inflate or the air bag cushion may detach from the air bag module. As such, these vehicles fail to comply with the requirements of Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard (FMVSS) number 208, "Occupant Crash Protection."

Potential Risk:
During deployment, if the air bag does not fully inflate or the cushion detaches, there is an increased risk of injury in the event of a crash.

Ford will notify owners, and dealers will replace the driver frontal air bag module, free of charge. The recall began June 16, 2017. Owners may contact Ford customer service at 1-866-436-7332. Ford's number for this recall is 17C02.

Safety Issue:

During dealer servicing, the affected vehicles may be have been updated with incorrect Antilock Brake System (ABS) and Electronic Stability Control (ESC) software. This software can cause the ESC system to lose engine torque control, and not provide any warning lamps to warn the driver if there was an ABS or ESC system malfunction. As such, these vehicles fail to comply with the requirements of Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard (FMVSS) number 126, "Electronic Stability Control Systems" and number 135, "Light Vehicle Brake Systems."

POWER TRAIN

Potential Consequences:

The power transfer unit cracked. It will cost $2200 plus the cost of the tow truck and a rental car for 7 days. We got very lucky that my son was driving at a low speed and was able to stop. This failure could’ve caused a major accident and resulted in his death had it happened just a few minutes earlier.

ENGINE AND ENGINE COOLING

Potential Consequences:

I had a engine warning light come on so I knew about the one recall for brake lines so I took my vehicle to a Ford dealership in Murfreesboro to fix the recall and to find out why the engine warning light came on, so they gave me a ride home. They asked me to leave my vehicle so these 2 things could be completed and checked out. 2 days had gone by and they finally call to tell me, my car was ready so I got a ride to the dealership to find out what was going on! One of the employees said recall was completed but he said my engine would need to be replaced, because coolant was coming through a cylinder and going into my engine and it would cost me $8,700.00 to fix!! Now mind you I have only had my car for 2 yrs! I’m disabled and need my car for my doctors appointments! I’m still paying on my car and I have to carry full coverage insurance because it’s financed!! So he told me I could mess my vehicle up further if I continue to drive it this way, so the vehicle is sitting in front of our house and I have not driven it since! My complaint # 1145819! I’m widowed so I have to rely on my children to take me where I need to go, which is a big inconvenience for us all! My sister had the same EXACT problem with her 2016 Escape and it was recalled, why not my 2016 Edge, it’s doing the EXACT same thing just different models! Please help me I’m paying on my auto which is financed and full coverage insurance on a vehicle that doesn’t run!! I need my vehicle very badly, can we trade vehicles? Or I’ll be happy if you can just fix the problem, they will have to tow it though because it’s not running now!! It has over 100,000 PLEASE, PLEASE, PLEASE HELP ME! I’m disabled, widowed, and on a fixed income so please have MERCY on me!!! I can’t deal with anymore disappointments!! My phone is set up to not answer any calls not in my contacts, so please leave a message and I’ll call you right back! PLEASE HELP ME!!! Can you possibly make an exception, because of my predicament???

Potential Consequences:

I am submitting this complaint due to concerns that others might start having the same issues that I am experiencing. My Ford Edge 2016 with just a little over 58,000 miles has a Timing Cover Oil Seal (MTCS), a Transfer Case Input Shaft Seal (FTCI), and the Axle Seal (FRAS) leaking. This is very sad that a vehicle with this few of miles has all these issues already. I am sure my Edge is not the only one having these issues. This vehicle does even leave hardball roads nor does it drove hard. I can't image what it would be like if I was rough on my vehicles. Jason

Unable to get parts/repair for NHTSA Safety Recall 20V-469 - since May 2021. Even tried calling the Ford Customer Relationship Center and was placed on hold for 30 min and then it disconnected. I would like for the part to be shipped directly to Long Lewis Ford of Hoover, AL in c/o of my name and vehicle, so they will call me when it arrives and I can come in to get replaced. Every time I call they don't have parts, as they only get a few at a time and are already spoken for. I am frustrated to keep calling and taking time to get this safety recall fixed on my own behalf. I would appreciate your help. Thank you.

Ford decided to put metal caps over all lug nuts and failed to tell the customers that they can not get them off with the standard equipment given by factory. There is no lug wrench or socket that will fit the lug nuts with the caps on them. Here is the “rub” I called the dealership and the service technician said “ to get a oversized socket and bang it on and then remove each lug nut , then replace all of them with new ones without the caps on them.” WOW. Ford has to know that this is a issue everyone that owns one has the same issue. Now imagine getting a flat on the interstate with the family at 1:30am.Now you would have to have the vehicle towed and find a ride at 1:30am. Now that would be a 15 minute job if Ford would do a recall and replace all of these ignorant lug nuts. Wow what a waste of time and money. I don’t know maybe Ford did not want the customers to remove the wheels never. Please help
