Ford Motor Company
NHTSA Campaign: 22V413000 SAFETY RECALL
2.9M Vehicles Affected
Recall Date: Jun 10, 2022
Safety Issue:

Ford Motor Company (Ford) is recalling certain 2013-2019 Escape, 2013-2018 C-Max, 2013-2016 Fusion, 2013-2021 Transit Connect, and 2015-2018 Edge vehicles. The bushing that attaches the shifter cable to the transmission may degrade or detach.

Potential Risk:
A damaged or missing bushing may prevent the vehicle from shifting into the intended gear, and cause the vehicle to move in an unexpected direction. Additionally, the vehicle may roll after the driver selects the 'Park' position. Either scenario increases the risk of a crash or injury.
FREE Recall Solution:
Dealers will replace the under hood shift bushing and add a protective cap over the shift cable bushing, free of charge. Interim owner notification letters, informing owners of the safety risk, were mailed July 1, 2022. Remedy parts are expected to be available in 4th Quarter 2022. Owner notification letters were mailed October 27, 2022. Owners may contact Ford customer service at 1-866-436-7332. Ford's number for this recall is 22S43.

NHTSA Campaign: 20V469000 SAFETY RECALL
488.6K Vehicles Affected
Recall Date: Aug 11, 2020
Safety Issue:

Ford Motor Company (Ford) is recalling certain 2015-2018 Ford Edge and 2016-2018 Lincoln MKX vehicles. The front brake hoses may rupture prematurely.

Potential Risk:
A ruptured front brake hose will cause a brake fluid leak, lengthening the distance needed to stop the vehicle, increasing the risk of a crash.
FREE Recall Solution:
Ford will notify owners, and dealers will replace the front brake hoses with the new hoses that have a revised braid material, free of charge. Parts are not currently available. An interim letter notifying owners of the safety risk was mailed September 21, 2020. A second letter will be sent once parts are available, which is expected to begin April 15, 2021. Owner notification letters were mailed on May 13, 2021. Owners may contact Ford customer service at 1-866-436-7332. Ford's number for this recall is 20S42.

NHTSA Campaign: 19V632000 SAFETY RECALL
116.2K Vehicles Affected
Recall Date: Aug 29, 2019
Safety Issue:

Ford Motor Company (Ford) is recalling certain 2013-2016 Ford Fusion and Lincoln MKZ, 2015-2016 Ford Edge, and 2016 Lincoln MKX vehicles originally sold, or currently registered in Connecticut, Delaware, the District of Columbia, Illinois, Indiana, Iowa, Maine, Maryland, Massachusetts, Michigan, Minnesota, Missouri, New Hampshire, New Jersey, New York, Ohio, Pennsylvania, Rhode Island, Vermont, West Virginia, and Wisconsin. Road salt or other contaminants may corrode the electric power steering gear motor attachment bolts.

Potential Risk:
If the bolts corrode, the steering gear motor may detach from the gear housing resulting in a loss of power steering assist, requiring a greater steering effort, especially at lower speeds, and increasing the risk of a crash.
FREE Recall Solution:
Ford will notify owners, and dealers will replace the steering gear motor bolts and apply a wax sealer. If any of the steering gear motor attachment bolts are broken or missing, a new steering gear will be installed in the vehicle. These repairs will be performed free of charge. The recall began October 18, 2019. Owners may contact Ford customer service at 1-866-436-7332. Ford's number for this recall is 19S26.

27.5K Vehicles Affected
Recall Date: Feb 27, 2017
Safety Issue:

Ford Motor Company (Ford) is recalling certain 2016-2017 Ford Edge and Lincoln MKX vehicles and 2017 Lincoln Continental vehicles. In the event of a crash, the driver's frontal air bag may not fully inflate or the air bag cushion may detach from the air bag module. As such, these vehicles fail to comply with the requirements of Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard (FMVSS) number 208, "Occupant Crash Protection."

Potential Risk:
During deployment, if the air bag does not fully inflate or the cushion detaches, there is an increased risk of injury in the event of a crash.
FREE Recall Solution:
Ford will notify owners, and dealers will replace the driver frontal air bag module, free of charge. The recall began June 16, 2017. Owners may contact Ford customer service at 1-866-436-7332. Ford's number for this recall is 17C02.

Recall Date: Oct 12, 2016
Safety Issue:

Ford Motor Company (Ford) is recalling certain model year 2015-2016 Ford Edge vehicles manufactured February 9, 2015, to August 12, 2016. During dealer servicing, the affected vehicles may be have been updated with incorrect Antilock Brake System (ABS) and Electronic Stability Control (ESC) software. This software can cause the ESC system to lose engine torque control, and not provide any warning lamps to warn the driver if there was an ABS or ESC system malfunction. As such, these vehicles fail to comply with the requirements of Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard (FMVSS) number 126, "Electronic Stability Control Systems" and number 135, "Light Vehicle Brake Systems."

Potential Risk:
If the operator is not warned of an ABS or ESC malfunction and the ESC loses engine torque control, there would be an increased risk of a crash.

Defect Description:

ENGINE

Potential Consequences:

I bought a new 2016 Ford Edge and have it serviced regularly at the dealer. My service record is exemplary and it is documented. My car has 94K miles. I have had work done by the dealer recently (new tires, new axle) and there was no advisement of an engine issue, absolutely nothing was said. About 7 days ago I got a warning light out of the blue, and took it in immediately. I was told it was a "catastrophic engine failure" due to coolant leaking into the engine because the coolant pump failed. I was told "it just happens." As I researched this on the web I discovered that there are thousands (possibly tens of thousands, the amount on the web is overwhelming) of people with the same catastrophe and outcomes that were all very similar: engine replacements cost 10K and can take months -- one fellow has been without his car for seven months. That is not an option for me. Frankly I am shocked at The Ford Motor Company and I mean that. What are they thinking???There is a Ford truck engine in that car and it should not be failing at 94K, especially after my record of service and especially after this problem has been known for years. I'm not kidding -- this car is 5 years old and looks 5 months old. I need resolution and I need it quickly and I am not encouraged by the reports I see. My issue is not with my dealer, it is with Ford dragging their heels on a solution. I am at my wit's end.

ENGINE

Potential Consequences:

There is a known problem with coolant leaking into the cylinder damaging the gasket. The only fix is to replace the entire engine block at a cost (in my case) of $8361. This seems unreasonable of a 6 year old car with 64,000 miles on it. This is a known problem to Ford as evidenced by the necessity of Techical Service Bulletin 19-2208 issued by Ford in June 2019. Fortunately, My engine light came on alerting me to the problem. That apparently doesn’t always happen meaning the engine could have stopped working while I was driving. Ford dealers are still selling these vehicles used on their lots with no need to disclose this problem because no recall has been ordered. Hoping that this can be rectified to help out a significant number of drivers who’ve had to fix their vehicles at a substantial cost and to force Ford to stop selling them used without repair

ENGINE

Potential Consequences:

On May 13, 2022, my Ford Edge was taken to the Local Ford Dealer for a spoiled coil. At 52,000 miles, the coolant had leaked into the cylinders and caused the engine block to crack. This resulted in me needing a whole new engine. Thankfully, I had taken out an extended warranty on my vehicle or it would have cost me over $7500. I was told by the dealership that this is a known problem with these Ecoboost engines. I have always taken excellent care of my ford edge and I cannot believe Ford has not been made to recall these engines. Most people don't have an extended warranty and they should not have to pay thousands of dollars for an obvious faulty engine.

Potential Consequences:

i have had my back windshield implode twice now on my Ford Edge in the last 8 months. Nothing hits the window. First time I was backing out of the driveway and had my back windshield wiper on and it just imploded. Had to go thru the hassle of getting the spoiler removed and the glass company out to fix it. Fine for 8 months until last night. Came home from errands, unloaded car, closed the hatch. Came back out about an hour later and the windshield was imploded again. There is something wrong for this to happen twice in 8 months. I found a recall for the back wiper motor but the recall is for Canada only. There should be a recall in the US also. I dont have the funds to keep replacing the windshield every 8 months. Especially when it isnt a simple fix with the glass company coming out to fix it. It has to be taken to a dealership first to get the spoiler removed then the glass company will fix it. Please get this fixed.

ENGINE

Potential Consequences:

Car has over 89000 miles and maintained regularly. I am the only owner and kept in garage. Check engine light came on which had a code of P0302, P0303, P0304. Mechanic confirmed coolant has leaked into cylinder and has caused crack with his borescope. Only fix is an entire engine replacement. I have no alternative but to get replacement car. This has cost me thousands in unplanned expenses to purchase a replacement before I am ready and the lost value on my vehicle due to this issue. This has apparently been known for years and no communications from Ford on this was ever received. I find this unacceptable for a company to allow this defect to go ignored.
