4.8M Vehicles Affected
Recall Date: May 17, 2018
Safety Issue:

Chrysler (FCA US LLC) is recalling certain 2014-2018 Dodge Journey, Charger and Durango, RAM 2500, 3500, 3500 Cab Chassis (more than 10,000lb), 4500 Cab Chassis and 5500 Cab Chassis, Jeep Cherokee and Grand Cherokee and Chrysler 300, 2014-2019 RAM 1500, 2015-2018 Dodge Challenger, 2015-2017 Chrysler 200, 2016-2018 RAM 3500 Cab Chassis (less than 10,000 lb), 2017-2018 Chrysler Pacifica and 2018 Jeep Wrangler vehicles. These vehicles are being recalled to address a defect that could prevent the cruise control system from disengaging. If, when using cruise control, there is a short circuit within the vehicle's wiring, the driver may not be able to shut off the cruise control either by depressing the brake pedal or manually turning the system off once it has been engaged, resulting in either the vehicle maintaining its current speed or possibly accelerating.

Potential Risk:
If the vehicle maintains its speed or accelerates despite attempts to deactivate the cruise control, there would be an increased risk of a crash.
FREE Recall Solution:
Chrysler will notify owners, and dealers will inspect the software, and perform a software flash on the engine or powertrain control module, free of charge. The recall began June 4, 2018. Owners may contact Chrysler customer service at 1-800-853-1403. Note: Owners are advised to stop using cruise control until the software update has been performed. In the event that cruise control cannot be disengaged while driving, owners should firmly and steadily apply the brakes and shift the transmission to neutral, placing the vehicle in park once it has stopped.

180.5K Vehicles Affected
Recall Date: Feb 8, 2018
Safety Issue:

Chrysler (FCA US LLC) is recalling certain 2017-2018 RAM 1500, 2500, 3500, 3500 Cab Chassis, 4500 Cab Chassis, and 5500 Cab Chassis vehicles, all equipped with a column shifter. Pushing the brake pedal for prolonged periods when the vehicle is running and in PARK may cause the Brake Transmission Shift Interlock (BTSI) pin to stick in the open position. With the pin in the open position, the transmission can be shifted out of PARK into any gear without pushing the brake pedal or having the key in the ignition.

Potential Risk:
Being able to shift the transmission without pushing the brake pedal and/or without a key in the ignition can increase the risk of an unintended vehicle rollaway that may result in personal injury or a crash.
FREE Recall Solution:
Chrysler will notify owners and dealers will update the Body Control Module software. Dealers will also test the BTSI operation, replacing the solenoid as necessary. The recall began February 26, 2018. Owners may contact Chrysler customer service at 1-800-853-1403. Chrysler's number for this recall is U11.

Safety Issue:

Chrysler (FCA US LLC) is recalling various Dodge, Chrysler, and RAM vehicles equipped with Kidde Plastic-Handle or Push Button 'Pindicator' Fire Extinguishers. A list of the affected trailer models is available at: https://static.nhtsa.gov/odi/rcl/2017/RMISC-17V824-0103.pdf. These extinguishers may become clogged, preventing the extinguisher from discharging as expected or requiring excessive force to activate the extinguisher. For a full list of the affected fire extinguisher models visit: https://static.nhtsa.gov/odi/rcl/2017/RMISC-17E062-5427.pdf

Potential Risk:
If the fire extinguisher does not function properly, it can increase the risk of injury in the event of a fire.
FREE Recall Solution:

Owners may contact Chrysler customer service at 1-800-853-1403 or Kidde customer service service toll-free at 1-855-262-3540, or online at www.kidde.com and click on "Product Safety Recall" for more information. SERVICE BRAKES

Potential Consequences:

2018 Ram 2500 4x4, 65400 miles, began having flashing and dinging from dash and warning lights for abs, traction control. Scan revealed code c0020-01, ABS control general electrical failure. It appears FCA is aware of this issue, but claims it not to be a recall issue, or covered under the power train warranty. I feel this is a safety issue, these systems help avoid crashes. This started as a simple quick light and went away, and at other times it goes off and on and dings, it’s distracting to who ever is driving these vehicles,

SERVICE BRAKES

Potential Consequences:

-Anti lock brake system control module and traction control system failure with 32000 miles on truck.- In reading online forums they have admitted to knowing these parts were bad. Not sure why this hasn’t been made a recall issue given it involves the braking systems on a huge portion of these trucks sold.- Dealership states both parts are bad but excluded from warranty and extended warranty.- warning lights come on at the same time it locks the brakes up until warning lights go out. -Well at 70 mph on the highway and it locked my brakes up. I was just lucky it didn’t cause a wreck or roll over accident which it very easily could have.

SERVICE BRAKES

Potential Consequences:

The EVIC display showed Service Antilock Braking System and alternated to Service Electronic Brake System. It would constantly ding and display the ABS light and the Traction Control light. It disengages the ABS and traction control system. Research has shown me this is a very common and known issue. It is dangerous and I am not comfortable driving my vehicle in the weather conditions I experience while towing heavy loads on a daily basis.

SERVICE BRAKES

Potential Consequences:

My 2018 RAM 2500 doesn't even have 23,000 mile on it, however went out of the 3/36000 in June of 2021. Currently I will be driving along and out of the blue the ABS/EBS "Service Breaking System" and traction control will light up and flash and ding. It will sometime go away quickly, however other times it keeps flashing the warning, and dinging upwards a minute. As seen on the site this is a very common issue with the 2018 RAM 2500, and it should be a Safety Concern and part of a National Recall. Many people use the 2500 to pull trailers and the like, and to loose any safety aspect relative braking is simply unacceptable and a dangerous situation for the owners and others on the roadways.

SERVICE BRAKES

Potential Consequences:

I started getting a Service Electronic Braking System warning light and bell recently that is intermittent and seems to affect the braking system on the truck. The light will go off and then return, sometimes once and at other times frequently. I searched online for this issue and found this is common among the 2018 and earlier year RAM trucks. The dealers make repairs under the warranty or charge upwards of $1,000 to change components to clear the warning, sometimes resolving the issue and at other times the warning returns shortly after repairs were made. My truck has just over 27K miles and the warranty (36 months) lapsed in February 2022. I believe RAM has adequate historical information regarding this issue to recall these vehicles and replace the failing components impacting safe braking on these trucks. Some vehicles exhibited this warning with less than 10,000 miles on them. There is plenty of owners complaints available via internet sites, such as the RAM Forum, documenting this safety issue and the lack of support by Chrysler to resolve the problem.

ELECTRICAL SYSTEM

Potential Consequences:

While operating the vehicle on cruise control the electronic throttle control failed and the vehicle went to full throttle. Stepping on the gas did not fix the problem. Luckily the brake lamp were applied and the brakes slowed the vehicle to a stop eventually while the engine was still at full throttle. Once the vehicle was safely on the side of the road, it was turned off. The vehicle had a warning that said to service the electronic throttle control. The vehicle was started again to get it onto a tow truck once it arrived, and the vehicle still went to full throttle. The vehicle was towed to the nearest dealership. Once at the dealership the vehicle was started again to get it off of the tow truck. The engine operated normally at that point. The throttle failing to full throttle is a huge safety issue. Luckily there was minimal traffic on the high way. The vehicle took a very long to to stop. Selecting Neutral could have helped but everything happened very quickly and caught the operator off guard.
