Potential Consequences:

As you are aware this of the "Kia" Challenge running rampant in the US. I am one of these owners of these vehicles. I recently was made aware that my neighbor had a car identical to mine and his was stolen out of his driveway last Sunday morning. I contacted Kia of North America and they stated "We do not have a workaround for this at this time" They will not supply us with Steering Wheel Locks or Immobilizers. The NHTSA needs to seriously investigate this to the high extent as this is causing anguish for people like myself who are fearful of our automobiles that we paid an exuberant amount of money for to be stolen from us. Its also very fearful that the car insurance companies are threatening to non-renew owners of these motor vehicles is VERY VERY concerning. Please address this please give the people like myself some guidance on how to proceed. If my insurance company decides to non renew my automobile insurance I am in deep trouble as I use this car to commute everyday to and from work. Please assist

STEERING

Potential Consequences:

While driving at highway speeds, steering is notchy and sticky. Steering is hard to control and it is difficult to drive straight. Overcorrection is a result and the car is unsafe to drive. The dealership drove the car and felt the same steering issue. They updated the software, but that didn't help. In fact, the sticky, notchy steering seems worse. The steering problem has been ongoing for about 5 years, and there has never been any warnings or messages from the car's electronics.

STEERING

Potential Consequences:

This is a continuing problem. The steering “Notches” when driving down straight and curves as well. I’ve had the vehicle into dealerships 4 times since 2019. The vehicles warning never came on. ECU’s been updated with the revisions of group CHA, Number 084., and the problem goes away for awhile, however, it’s back again in January 2023. There was extension for the MDPS issued on January 7, 2022 to 15yrs/150,000 miles, but it says the the warning has to come on. This is not right, I believe now something needs to be replaced. My Sorento now has over 70,000 miles. Do we with same problem have to hit something and possibly kill an innocent person or ourselves.

ENGINE

Potential Consequences:

I'm the (third and current) owner of 2017 Kia Sorento LX which was working absolutely fine, with no issues or any warning lights on. On 1/14/23 (Saturday) while travelling with family on highway I-95 (in florida), the engine suddenly failed with smoke and oil spurting out from underneath. The engine service lights and audio warning kicked in. Despite the confusion and nervousness, I was able to safely maneuver the vehicle to the shoulder within seconds and escaped crash or fire. Immediately called my insurance and got the vehicle towed to the nearest Kia dealership. I had to drop the vehicle at the dealership (and drove home 700 miles to Virginia using one way rental). Few days later the dealership confirmed that the engine is not good anymore and it needs a replacement. They told me that since the recall (PI1802 ECU UPGRADE (KSDS)) was not performed on the vehicle, Kia will NOT pay for any expenses and I have to pay out of pocket more than $8500.00 for the replacement. It came as a big surprise and shock to me as I never heard or got any communication from either the dealer (3rd party) from whom I bought the vehicle or KIA regarding such recall or the fix needed, to prevent such a failure. I would appreciate it if your legal team can help me to have Kia replace the engine at no cost to me. As I'm searching, I'm hearing a lot of news about KIa's and Hyundai's having the same engine issue and many have resulted in fires and even death. Youtube and other online forums, have many of these horror stories, also few highlighted by the media. Now looking back, I feel lucky that we narrowly escaped!

Youtube and other online forums, have many of these horror stories, also few highlighted by the media. Now looking back, I feel lucky that we narrowly escaped!

Additional Notes:

Potential Consequences:

I have a 2017 Kia Sorento . I bought this vehicle with less than 5000 miles on it. I had the oil changed when it was recommended. Loved the vehicle. Fast forward to about 48,000-50,000 miles. {currently at 62,000 Miles} Had the required oil change done and they noticed the vehicle was low 2 quarts of oil. Oil consumption continued. Had an OIL CONSUMPTION test done {at approximately 53,000 miles] and determined it as a legit complaint. As i am not the original owner and the vehicle warranty expired at 50,000 a free new engine is NOT an option. They offered to complete a free combustion flush. I am now waiting for 1000 miles to recheck the oil to see if the flush took care of the problem, but I did check the oil at 100 miles, and it is down 1/2 a quart already. I will be reporting back to the garage if the consumption gets worse or when I hit the 1000 mile recheck mark. I am seriously concerned about this. I paid a lot of money for this vehicle, and it was to be my last car in my retirement years! If the engine fails, seizes or continues to burn excessive oil and I have to pay for a new engine or more repairs I will be devastated as I am on a Social Security and have a limited incoming. The engine could seize if it burns all the oil when I'm driving and could cause injuries to myself or the public. I know hate this vehicle and wish i never bought it !! I really feel Kia should be required to replace this engine with a SAFE no problems engine!

ENGINE

Potential Consequences:

MY KIA HAS AN ENGINE ISSUE THAT INVOLVES OIL CONSUPMTION. I GET THE OIL CHANGED EVERY 5,OOO MILES AND IN THE LAST 4 OIL CHANGES IT HAS BEEN BOTED THAT THERE WAS NO OIL OR ABOUT 1/2 A QUART IN THE OIL PAN WHEN DRAINING. THIS MEANS THAT MY KIA IN ESSENTIALY BURNING 5 QUARTS OF OIL EVERY 5,000 MILES, WHICH IN MY OPINION IS FAR MORE THAN JUST A WORN ENGINE. HOWEVER, THE VEHICLE IS NOT LEAKING ANY OIL, I CONFIRMED THIS BY PARKING IN BOTH MY GARAGE AND DRIVEWAY TO TEST FOR OIL LEAKS AND I HAVE LOOKED UNDER THE VEHICLE AND HAD THE PEOPLE DOING MY OIL CHANGE CHECK AND NONE OF US CAN FIND ANY EVIDENCE OF A LEAK. WHEN THE ENGINE IS RUNNING THERE IN NO BLACK OR WHITE SMOKE SO I AM JUST NOT SURE WHERE THE OIL IS GOING. I HAVE CONTACTED THE KIA DEALERSHIP I BOUGHT THE VEHICLE FROM AND THEY BASICALLY TOLD ME THAT IS NOT THEIR PROBLEM AND THAT I CAN PAY ALL THIS MONEY TO HAVE IT DIAGNOSED. I KNOW THAT MY KIA SORENTO IS NOT HE ONLY ONE WITH THIS ISSUE, HOWEVER, KIA HAS STATED THAT EVEN THOUGH IT IS THE SAME ISSUE, SINCE IT HASN'T BECOME A RECALL INVOLVING MY PARTICULAR VIN IT IS NOT THIER PROBLEM. AND IT NEEDS TO BE FIXED BECASUE ONE OF THESE DAYS THE ENGINE IS GOING TO SIEZE WHILE I AM ON THE FREEWAY, OR SOMETHING LIKE THAT, AND POTENTALY CAUSE A MAJOR ACCIDENT THAT COULD RESULT IN DEATH. PLEASE LOOK INTO THIS FOR ME THANK YOU.

ENGINE

Potential Consequences:

Excessive motor oil consumption leading to a cylinder 2 misfire resulting in a new motor needing to be purchased. The car is less than 5 years old. I purchased the car in 2018 with 13,000 miles and preformed all regularly scheduled auto maintenance and all of KIA’s recalls and advised KIA on multiple occasions that there was excessive oil consumption. Driving down the highway the car began to shake uncontrollably and the check engine light illuminated. The car was pulled over at an auto zone where it was advised of the cylinder 2 misfire. The car was then towed immediately into the Greensboro KIA dearlership for formal diagnosis of the issue. At which point the dealership called and advised all tests were performed and this repair would require a new motor for a total of $11000.
