STEERING

Potential Consequences:

Recently, my daughter experienced the vehicle shaking after traveling on the beltway at the speed of 65+ MPH. She informed that she hit a pothole in the road at the high speed and the car began to shake. The history of this vehicle when I leased it new was the same. After having leased the vehicle for less than a year, I experienced the same. At that time there was a recall on the steering stabilizer (believe that was the name). I took it back to the dealership and it appeared to be resolved. I had not experienced the problem again until recently. I just took it to the dealership explaining the problem. They informed me that the steering damper design was outdated and performed a bleed out. After driving the vehicle, I experienced the same problem (traveling @ a speed of 65+ and hit an imperfection in the road). I believe that may daughter or I could lose control of the vehicle if traveling on the beltway and the vehicle shakes uncontrollably; thus, there's a lost of control of the vehicle which will cause a crash.

UNKNOWN OR OTHER

Potential Consequences:

There is a common complaint among owners of 2018 and newer Jeep Wranglers. The visors can become detached from their main support allowing them to impede the visibility of the driver and any passengers in the vehicle. Typically the visors break when being raised or lower, however due to the minimal effort it takes to cause the defect to be created the visor can swing wildly if jarred loose during an accident or driving in an emergency which could strike a driver or passenger in the face or chest. I would like an investigation started into resolving this issues as owners are having to pay for new visors only to have them repeatedly break due to the design.

STEERING

Potential Consequences:

Car spontaneously begins to violently shake, primarily after traveling over a bridge-road seam or other minor bump in road surface. The shake violently rattles car left to right, violently rattles steering wheel. Occurs at 55-60 MPH and above, when travel in excess of 60 MPH car becomes consistently undriveable at posted speed. Possible to recover if can slow down below 30 MPH, typically must stop car. Safety is high risk due to high speed and very high amplitude vibration, must navigate to safety to stop car (ex: on expressway). Unsure of vehicle control in icy conditions or curves. Have had fellow expressway drivers pull over to tell me they witnessed front tires jumping up and down. Car was just inspected, new tires installed, wheels balanced. Clean bill of health, and issue began. Took to manufacturer dealer, they did not convey any knowledge of issue. However knew what I meant by "death rattle". Technician is replacing steering damper. This is a known issue to NTSA and Fiat Chrysler. While no recall, FCA has posted a consumer satisfaction notice to cover the steering damper replacement, although repair shop claims this is a courtesy extended warranty coverage. The death rattle is no-joke violent and places occupants of vehicle at risk during recovery of death rattle and renders vehicle unfit for safe travel at speeds above 50 MPH. Thought you should know.
