UNKNOWN OR OTHER

Potential Consequences:

Multiple times the check engine light, air bag lights, powertrain light have went off. I took it to the dealership, they said nothing was wrong and reset the lights. The last time this happened, all power went out on my Jeep Wrangler. I pulled it to the side. Sat for a while and drove 20 home. I called the Jeep dealership and they inspected my car. 160 warnings were on the electric scan. The mechanic called Chrysler--they charged me almost a 1,000 to fix something in the steering column. I have no warranty as it has been over 3 years. I took my car back and the dealership mechanic said he wasn't sure if he fixed it and I should call Chrysler. We did. My case # is 82498233. They said they couldn't do anything about it. Since then, my car keeps losing power while I am driving. I pull it over and sit and then it starts working within 15 minutes. No one knows what is wrong with it. It is a 2018.5 Jeep Wrangler. I am teaching my son to drive on it and it is very scary.

ENGINE

Potential Consequences:

The frame bracket for the engine mount has a vertical slot instead of the traditional round hole. This allows the engine to climb out of the mount in case the cross bolt gets loosened even slightly. I discovered this flaw when my engine started twisting and the output yoke on the rear driveshaft was rubbing against the fuel tank. Untreated it could have ruptured the gas tank. The enclosed photo shows the main engine mount bolt having pulled out of the mount and sitting above it. Essentially at this point the engine is not connected to the frame.

STEERING

Potential Consequences:

I was driving my wife's vehicle at the time of this incident. While driving at highway speeds (55+ mph) I went over a cracked/uneven section of the roadway. The steering column began to vibrate and jump in my hands. The front wheels were rattling and bouncing, making it difficult to control the steering path of the vehicle. It was only after slowing down the speed of the vehicle that the rattling / jumping of the steering column stopped. The uneven section of road I had gone over hadn't been that severe enough, I thought, to cause any damage. I drive over that same route several times a week and it was no different than before, other than I was driving the Jeep. I asked my wife if this had ever happened to her before. She said it had, but it stopped and she thought it may just be a wearing or broken steel belted radial tire. We were getting the tires replaced soon. After getting new tires, the problem is persisting. The mechanic did not find any damaged wheels or tires, the steering didn't appear loose or damaged. After checking this site for vehicle recalls, but finding none, I was perplexed. After conducting further research I found out about the "Death Wobble" and FCA's Customer Satisfaction Notification V41 Steering Damper fix.

Potential Consequences:

My back window on my Jeep Wrangler will not zip back up all the way. I have only unzipped the back window once, and that was to wipe the inside of the window because it was hard to see clearly though the back window. When I tried zipping the window back up, the zipper did not zip up all the way, and now there is an opening, and water is getting into my jeep. The zipper has never been used except this time, so I could clean the inside of the window. This incident happened about a month ago, and now so much water has come through the opening, it has rusted and ruined my brand new Jack and Jack lift that came with my jeep. Rain gets through the opening, especially if it rains really hard, and a puddle of rain will stay on my soft top, and when I go to drive it after the puddle of rain has been sitting on top of my soft top, that puddle drains right down the pack of my top, and gets down into the hole. I have also noticed bugs and insects getting through that hole and into my vehicle. Mosquitos usually always get through that opening every time it rains, and wasps get through it too. With wasps going in and out of this opening, I fear they may try to build a nest in my car, since they come and go out of that opening. I have 2 small children, and cannot drive around with this opening in my soft top with my kids. That it a dangerous situation, and the rain getting into that hole is ruining the inside of my Jeep.

Defect Description:

SERVICE BRAKES

Potential Consequences:

On Dec. 31, 2021, we discovered the left rear brake had "frozen" the brake pads to the rotor, causing it to drag and smoke. My wife was alone in the car at the time. We managed to limp it to the mechanic and got it replaced. On Feb. 8, 2022, it happened again on the front right wheel. This time she was again alone, 2 hours from home, and it smoked so severely she thought the car was on fire. We got it towed to the garage and this time, with a history developed, we got the other 3 calipers replaced along with the parts they ruined. There is no doubt that her safety is at risk with faulty brakes, whether they freeze or fail to grab. The problem WAS confirmed by the mechanic and he showed me how he confirmed it. He fixed it; no other entities inspected it. FCA US LLC did verbally acknowledge brake problems with that model. Wheel drag and a "burnt" smell started in December, 2021; cause discovered 12/31/21. No other prior warnings.
