Chrysler (FCA US LLC) is recalling certain 2017-2018 Jeep Renegade 4X2 flex fuel/E85 vehicles equipped with a 2.4L engine. In certain operating conditions such as high power demand in conjunction with high altitude and/or high ambient temperatures, a manufacturing error in the fuel pump assembly may result in a loss of fuel pressure.

MY CAR WAS BOUGHT AT A JEEP DEALERSHIP 2 DAYS PRIOR TO THIS RECALL WHICH WAS OVER 2 MONTHS AGO. REACHED OUT TO THE FCA AND THEY GOT ME IN CONTACT WITH DEALERSHIPS WHO DID NOT HAVE THE PARTS READILY AVAILABLE AND COULD NOT GIVE ME AN ETA. I INSISTED THAT I HAVE TWO SMALL CHILDREN AND I DID NOT FEEL COMFORTABLE DRIVING AROUND A VEHICLE THAT COULD AT ANY TIME CAUSE A CRASH BECAUSE OF A DEFECTED PART. I WAS TOLD IT WAS A ONE IN A MILLION CHANCE THAT THIS COULD HAPPEN, WHICH OBVIOUSLY IS NOT THE CASE IF A RECALL WAS ISSUED. I WAS TOLD I WOULD RECEIVE A CALL BACK FROM THE DEALERSHIP ON MONDAY AND HAD TO CALL BACK TWO DAYS LATER BECAUSE I HAD NOT HEARD BACK. I MADE AN APPOINTMENT TO GO IN, AND WHEN I WENT IN THE SALES MANAGER TOLD ME THAT THE FCA HADN'T RELEASED THE PART FOR A RECALL THAT'S OVER TWO MONTHS OLD AND THEIR HANDS WERE TIED UNTIL THE PART COMES IN. I WAS TOLD THAT IF I TRADED IN THE CAR I WAS LOOKING AT A HUGE NEGATIVE EQUITY I WOULD BE PAYING FOR A CAR I HAD, AGAIN, BOUGHT TWO MONTHS PRIOR. I WAS NOT ADVISED ON THE BUY BACK OPTION, BUT JUST TOLD I WOULD HAVE TO TAKE MY CHANCES UNTIL THE PART CAME IN.

I WAS SHOCKED BECAUSE THE CAR IS 11 MONTHS OLD WITH 19,152 MILES THERE IS NO WAY THAT I SHOULD NEED TO HAVE MY ROTORS AND BRAKES REPLACED. I RESEARCHED AND FOUND THAT THIS MODEL IS KNOWN TO HAVE BRAKE PAD ISSUES WHICH CAUSES THE ROTORS TO HAVE GROOVES. IT IS UNACCEPTABLE THAT I SHOULD HAVE TO REPLACE BRAKES THIS SOON.

I CHECKED AND THE OIL STICK AND THE LEVEL WAS AT THE MEDIUM LEVEL ON THE STICK. I TOOK MY CAR TO THE DEALER 12/17/18 TO HAVE IT LOOKED AT. I WAS TOLD THAT I HAD NO OIL IN MY CAR WHICH WAS IMPOSSIBLE SINCE I HAD JUST PUT OIL IN THE CAR. THE DEALER RECOMMENDED THAT I DRIVE 500 MILES AND THEN COME BACK FOR AN OIL CONSUMPTION TEST.
