Defect Description:

LANE DEPARTURE: BLIND SPOT DETECTION

Potential Consequences:

Since purchase, I have had problems with the U Connect system, which at times renders all communication and some luxury items to be inoperable 1 week ago, car completely had both batteries drain spontaneously . Dealer replaced both batteries with no further explanation. On 5/21, on highway trip, warning lights came on, lane assist, blind spot, ABS stopped working. A/c was blowing hard, but could not adjust. Windows would not open. Hatch would not open, back doors would not open , door lock/ unlock did not work. Could only use handle on inside to open car. Could not adjust side mirrors. Promptly rerouted my day trip back home via side roads and not expressway due to uncertainty of safety. Drove it right to dealer and left the car running while checking in. Car starting flashing lights while service writer was checking car in. Then all lights- headlights and tail lights went dark without touching car. Engine still running. Car is not safe or reliable to drive. Had 12,400 miles and have owned it 18 months. Mostly highway driven by retired couple. 5 th service of electrical issues since purchase. It has been kept multiple days each time.

Potential Consequences:

The radio, which included hands free calling, has been having issues of locking up, connecting calls but the caller not being able to hear the person in the vehicle. In order to correct the issue it requires the driver to reset the radio. This involved multiple choices on the interface to get to the radio reset option. This causes a major safety concern if done while driving. I have taken the vehicle to the service department at the dealer 4 times and been provided a Star Online Publication (S238A000026 Rev. A) dated October 2023 which states "Intermittent radio concerns will be corrected in the 4th Quarter radio software enhancement, updates over the air." I is now the 2nd quarter of 2024 and the issues have not been corrected and this Star Online Publication has not been updated.

FORWARD COLLISION AVOIDANCE: AUTOMATIC EMERGENCY BRAKING

Potential Consequences:

Driving down a highway in a 70 mph zone, my car’s automatic braking system engaged causing my car to slam on brakes. There were no cars in front of me any of the times this happened. This has happened 5 times in the last two weeks. 3/5 of the times, there were cars/trucks in the right lane next to me. 2/5 of the times, there were trucks two lanes over. The first time this happened, the car behind me had to slam on their brakes to avoid hitting me. This has happened about 10 times since I have owned the car. However the incidents have happened more frequently in the last few weeks.
