Defect Description:

ELECTRICAL SYSTEM

Potential Consequences:

When crossing the border into Mexico the AEB module falsely reports it has malfunctioned due to "geo fence" limitations. At least that is the cause of the issue per the service department. This causes the AEB system to stay offline and inoperable which also affects the Lane Departure Warning System as well as prevents the use of Adaptive Cruise Control. Supposedly there will be a "Software Update" coming--it was supposed to happen in Q4 of 2023 and now they say Q1 2024 which has ended and no update. The safety of the vehicle is compromised as key safety features are offline.

Cannot get accurate information from manufacturer about safety recall 24V-132. Both the FCA website and NHTSA date the recall at 2-22-24, which places it before my sales date. They keep providing conflicting information about the date of this recall, which has left me confused and uncertain able the safety of my new vehicle. If FCA sold me a vehicle they knew was defective, had an open safety recall, and they don't have the ability to make the vehicle safe it shouldn't have been sold to me. The attached photos show I took possession on 2-24. The NHTSA and FCA website (FCA website screenshot is provided) show a recall date of 2-22. The 10B FCA recall letter says 2-23. All dates precede my purchase date of 2-24, showing FCA knowingly sold, and financed as this is through FCA financing, a vehicle with an open safety recall without informing me or fixing it.

SERVICE BRAKES

Potential Consequences:

New vehicle within 30 days of purchase date. Vehicle had just turned a corner and went a few more feet driving approximately 5 mph on a flat asphalt RD. The rear end suddenly shook violently, making loud clunking noises and shut off. Vehicle put itself into park. Tried to restart the car and it would only flash all the warning lights. Tow truck took it to Landmark Dodge Jeep in Independence, MO. The shop determined right rear rotor broke in half, and caliper broke off. The rotor breaking cracked inside of wheel. No damage to wheel well, fender, under carriage or body of auto in any way. Turned in the issue to Jeep as defective. They refused to fix it stating turn it into auto insurance. We refused to turn into insurance as it is defective parts. We asked Jeep for a black box report. Jeep refused to run it, so we hired a forensic company to take the black box reading which confirms no possible collision incident. Both black box report specialist and Landmark repair technicians note defective parts are a serious concern on this auto. This could be a larger issue for Jeep. If rotor had broken at a higher speed would have been very serious situation. We are concerned that other 2023 Jeep Grand Cherokee owners could be at risk. Jeep has still not responded to our escalation request. They keep advising someone will call us, but it has been over 45 days with no assistance from Jeep in any way. Car is still sitting unrepaired awaiting Jeep Wave escalation to contact us. We do not know if this situation is solely related to the rotor as it could be a larger issue with the vehicle traction control or drive line. We can provide the Semke Forensic Investigative Report findings done by a licensed Senior Mechanical Engineer with NHTSA but ask NHTSA to independently investigate. This is a serious safety concern. Jeep has completely failed to respond or protect us as customers.

FORWARD COLLISION AVOIDANCE: AUTOMATIC EMERGENCY BRAKING

Potential Consequences:

Driving 35 MPH on a back road, no cars coming the opposite direction, the automatic emergency braking system flashed, beeped and slammed my brakes momentarily. Luckily there was no one behind me. I attempted to pull into a parking lot and the entire electrical system went crazy, all warning lights, systems and sensors went off and I lost power steering. Had I been driving during power steering loss it would have been very dangerous. This is the second time this has occurred with the lights and power steering issue (first time for the AEB system issue) and the dealer kept the car 3 weeks to repair it but clearly the problem persists.

ENGINE

Potential Consequences:

As I was approaching an intersection near the railroad track my vehicle just stopped on its own, the gear switch to Park on its own and I was unable to switch the gear back to Drive or Neutral. Messages on the screen popped up saying “Park Brake Auto Engaged Press Brake + Push Switch to Release” but that didn't worked then received another message saying "Service transmission". So basically I had to call a tow truck because my vehicle was stuck in the middle of the road and there wasn't any way to move it and thankfully it stopped about 100ft before the railroad tracks. As I was waiting for the tow truck, about 15-20 minutes later, I tried pressing the brakes and switch again and this time it worked and was able to restart the vehicle. I called the dealer to get a service appointment and I'm waiting for them to call me back. This issue came with no warnings or prior signs and it was totally unexpected.

SUSPENSION

Potential Consequences:

I own a 2023 Grand Cherokee Trailhawk 4xe, and after 4 months and roughly 5000 miles, a bolt in the rear suspension broke, causing significant damage to other parts. On the highway this was very disconcerting and there was a huge amount of lateral shifting over any bump. Definitely not safe. Thankfully, the first incident was covered under warranty, despite the repair team being clueless about the cause. Now, at the end of November with 9000 miles on the clock, history repeats itself. This time, Jeep acknowledges that the bolt in the rear tension link is a known issue with the Grand Cherokee 4xe, but they're stumped about why it keeps happening. No recall has been issued. Trying to get any information about whether the bolt has been upgraded in strength is like hitting a wall - neither the dealer nor Jeep corporate have answers. My case manager is either unable or unwilling to help, and I'm stuck in a loop between the dealer and corporate, with no one able to provide clear information.

FUEL/PROPULSION SYSTEM

Potential Consequences:

The vehicle was newly acquired and was set to run on Electric mode. I was driving on the Highway at highway speed and suddenly without any warning, it lost all power due the what is called "FORM" making the electric engine unavailable. There was a semi truck right behind me which almost hit me since by losing my electric engine I dropped my speed suddenly. I had to pull over and try to figure out what was going on and switch to Hybrid mode. The issue is that #1 this comes without any warning at any moment, making your electric engine absolutely useless and then why do we even have the option of an Electric only engine. #2 we have no control on delaying even for just a few miles this FORM mode to allow us to get to a gas station or to a safe location since the button to switch to Hybrid mode is not located in an easy access while keep your eyes on the Road. #3 I end up in that FORM mode almost every other week now . This FORM is not even something that is communicated by JEEP in their advertisement. You can't find the information about it unless you end up having the issue and look for it. I don't even reach the advertised MPG due to the FORM. I use gas every day regardless so I should not need to be in FORM mode every other week
