STEERING

Potential Consequences:

My husband and my son were driving my Jeep on the highway going 70 MPH when with no warning there was absolutely NO power steering and almost went off the road over an embankment. Luckily it was my husband driving because I would not have been able to control the car. When researching this year of Jeep, there is a recall for this issue on only a certain number of vehicles, but of course when I put my VIN in my vehicle is not on the recall list and I also see several complaints of the same issue with the steering and not being on the recall list. This is a HUGE safety issue and NEEDS to be address immediately.

ENGINE

Potential Consequences:

Check engine light came on. Had it diagnosed within 5 minutes. Code P0123 came up. That is the “Throttle/Pedal Position Sensor/Switch “A” Circuit High Input”. Specific part # 5184349AF. It is built into the throttle body, so whole throttle body must be replaced. Vehicle only has 40,000 miles. Parts Dept at dealer told me they had several of these parts in stock. He was surprised. They only do that when they know there is a problem. It is a safety issue. It can fail and cause engine to quit. Jeep refuses to acknowledge an existing problem. It needs government investigation for safety. I can send picture of diagnosis printout if needed.

AIR BAGS

Potential Consequences:

This particular year and model of jeep has 2 recalls not registered to my VIN number related to my accident. Airbags- impact and acceleration sensors. Steering- steering rack gear. Tonight while driving my jeep to my local walmart, my steering completely quit and locked up on me causing me to go off the road, hit a speed limit sign, almost roll my vehicle, and cause possible irreparable damage that may total my vehicle all together. The impact was hard enough to cave in my whole front passenger side fender, rip my mirror completely off, dent both passenger doors deeply, bend my door frames, and almost completely tore off my rear fender. During this, my air bags did not deploy, and I know the accident was bad enough that they should have. This could have been life threatening, and could have ended entirely worse than what it did. My power steering pump seems to be working fine, but my jeep itself is still registering it as a power steering issue, which makes me believe that there are significant electrical issues with the jeep itself.

STEERING

ENGINE

Potential Consequences:

Aug 29,2019 I purchased a 2019 Jeep Cherokee Latitude new from Town Chrysler Jeep of Wenatchee WA. Shortly after I had several issues with the vehicle. My main concern is at times we are not able to accelerate when needed w/no warning. I brought the vehicle in to the dealership . I was told no codes were stored and sent away . This has happened to my family and I several times almost causing us to get into collisions. The last incident occurred May 5th, 2021 again not able to accelerate when I needed. We have jeopardized our safety as well as the publics too many times. I again took the vehicle into the dealership and demanded them to figure out the issue again, as we are not safe driving it. The General manager Clayton was in contact with the Chrysler Corporation and the star technician. Clayton requested buy back of the vehicle. They declined his request so I filed a case #, I again stated my concerns for safety which now brings us to day 77 and the vehicle still sits at the dealership. They only drove it 46 miles, when I was told it was being driven daily. Unacceptable, I told the dealership as well as my case worker that at times I could go 2 months w/out incident , there is no warning what so ever, and only driving the vehicle 1.67 miles per day is not taking this malfunction seriously. This is not going be enough driving to "duplicate" the issue. Unfortunately I ended up leaving the vehicle on the lot and purchasing a different one as we have a surgery coming up on July 30th and needed my focus to be on family. I still have concern for public safety if this vehicle is resold. I expressed this many times to Corporate as well the dealership. I no longer own the the vehicle I took the loss for safety but I feel the need to continue to express my concerns. I also want to add how poorly I was treated by Corporate which was completely unnecessary . Thank you for your time !

ELECTRICAL SYSTEM

Potential Consequences:

I bought my 2019 Jeep Cherokee in February 2021. I've had issues with the vehicle not starting about 2 months after I bought it. Recently I have had to jump start my car to get it started. On the highway this evening all these warning lights were popping up, and my vehicle just shut off, everything. Thankfully I was able to get into the breakdown lane. After a while, I was able to start my vehicle and check the vehicle information. My battery voltage was at 17.1. I safely got my vehicle home. I let the car sit. Then tested the voltage on the battery and it was normal. The alternator was good as well. However, the minute I start my car, the batter voltage is in the red again. My 5 year old daughter was in the vehicle, I was driving on interstate 84 in Connecticut. We could have been injured or killed if I did not get to the side of the road.

ELECTRICAL SYSTEM

Potential Consequences:

On hot days/days when A/C is running, the car will fully shut off when stopping at a stop light when the auto-off functionality is on (which is by default “on” with every ignition cycle). The lights go out, the dashboard computer and instrument panel go dark and then the car does a hard reignition. From time to time the the car will not turn back on automatically giving an error to the effect of “power On/Off required.” In this instance the vehicle must be shifted to park to be able to reignite the engine chambers and then the vehicle must be put back in drive - taking ~30 seconds and causing traffic snarls - endangering fellow travelers and those in the vehicle.

Our Jeep Cherokee caught fire spontaneously on Friday night around 11:30pm. The fire started at the front of the passenger side of the vehicle. The fire started shortly after a warning message that read "4WD overheated. Temporarily unavailable." There were 3 adults and 1 infant in the vehicle that were put at risk during this incident. Not only due to the fire starting in the vehicle but being stranded on the side of a major highway for over an hour. EMT, Police, and Fire Department responded to the call. We are pending a review by insurance representatives and the manufacturer. The vehicle is available for inspection upon request.
