Honda (American Honda Motor Co.) is recalling certain 2013-2023 Honda Accord, Civic Coupe, Civic Sedan, Civic Hatchback, Civic Type R, CR-V, HR-V, Ridgeline, Odyssey, Acura ILX, MDX, MDX Hybrid, RDX, RLX, TLX, 2019-2022 Honda Insight, Passport, 2020 Honda CR-V Hybrid, 2018-2019 Honda Clarity PHEV, Fit, and 2015-2020 Honda Accord Hybrid, Pilot, Acura NSX vehicles. The fuel pump inside the fuel tank may fail.

Potential Risk:
Fuel pump failure can cause an engine stall while driving, increasing the risk of a crash.
FREE Recall Solution:
Dealers will replace the fuel pump module, free of charge. Owner letters were mailed September 6, 2024. Owners may contact Honda customer service at 1-888-234-2138. Honda's numbers for this recall are KGC and KGD. This recall is an expansion of NHTSA recall numbers 21V-215 and 20V-314.

Safety Issue:

Honda (American Honda Motor Co.) is recalling certain 2015-2020 Acura TLX, 2016-2020 Acura MDX, 2016 and 2018-2019 Pilot, 2017 and 2019 Ridgeline, and 2018-2019 Odyssey vehicles. Due to a manufacturing error, the connecting rod bearing in the engine may wear and seize, damaging the engine.

Potential Risk:
A damaged engine may run improperly or stall while driving, increasing the risk of a fire, crash, or injury.
FREE Recall Solution:
Dealers will inspect and repair, or replace the engine as necessary, free of charge. Owner letters were mailed March 28, 2024. 2016-2017 Acura MDX owner letters were mailed November 1, 2024. 2016-2020 Acura MDX owner letters are expected to be mailed in mid-December 2024. Honda began mailing owner notification letters as of March 18, 2024. 2015-2016 Acura owner letters are expected to be mailed mid-December 2024, 2018 Acura TLX owner letters are expected to be mailed the end of March/early April 2024, 2019 Acura TLX owner letters are expected to be mailed mid-May 2024, 2020 Acura TLX owner letters are expected to be mailed mid-June 2024, and 2016-2020 Acura MDX owner letters are expected to be mailed January 27, 2025. Honda (American Honda Motor Co.) is recalling certain 2019 Passport, 2016-2019 Pilot, and 2017-2020 Ridgeline vehicles. The hood latch striker may become damaged and separate from the hood, which can result in the hood opening while driving.

Potential Risk:
A hood that opens while driving can obstruct the driver's view and increase the risk of a crash.
FREE Recall Solution:

Honda (American Honda Motor Co.) is recalling certain model year 2015 Acura MDX 2WD and MDX 4WD vehicles, 2016 Acura MDX 4WD vehicles, 2015-2016 Honda Odyssey vehicles, and 2016 Honda Pilot 2WD and 4WD vehicles. The affected vehicles have fuel tanks that were manufactured with insufficient welds which may separate and allow fuel to leak out.

Honda (American Honda Motor Co.) is recalling certain model year 2016 Honda Pilot 2WD vehicles manufactured May 4, 2015, to September 8, 2015 and 2016 Pilot 4WD vehicles manufactured May 7, 2015 to September 4, 2015. In the affected vehicles, when one of the safety systems such as tire pressure monitoring, anti-lock braking or electronic stability control malfunctions, there is potential that the instrument panel will not illuminate the corresponding warning light, however the warning lamps will illuminate when the ignition is turned off and then turned back on. As such, these vehicles fail to comply with the requirements of Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard (FMVSS) number 126, "Electronic stability control systems", number 135, "Light vehicle brake systems" and number 138, "Tire pressure monitoring systems".

Potential Risk:
If a safety system cannot immediately warn the driver when needed, the driver may be at increased risk of a crash.

Honda (American Honda Motor Co.) is recalling certain model year 2016 Honda Pilot vehicles manufactured May 4, 2015, to June 5, 2015. Due to an assembly issue, the third row seatbelt may be trapped between the rear seat and the rear sideliner.

Potential Risk:
If the third row seatbelt is trapped, the occupants may not be restrained properly, increasing the risk of injury.

SINCE PURCHASE 3 MONTHS AGO, THE HOOD SHAKES VIOLENTLY AT SPEEDS ABOVE 55 MPH AND ESPECIALLY UNDER WINDY CONDITIONS. IT IS EXCEPTIONALLY BAD IN HIGH WIND AND WHEN PASSING ONCOMING VEHICLES. IT IS OBVIOUS THE HOOD IS NOT SUFFICIENTLY STRONG ENOUGH TO WITHSTAND THESE WIND PRESSURES WITHOUT CAUSING SOME KIND OF DAMAGE IN THE FUTURE. FEELS LIKE IT IS ONLY A MATTER OF TIME BEFORE THE HOOD ACTUALLY BENDS OR BREAKS AT 80 MPH HIGHWAY SPEED LIMIT.

WHILE DRIVING 65 MPH ON THE HIGHWAY A SUDDEN LOUD BANG OCCURRED WHICH SOUNDED EXACTLY LIKE A GUNSHOT GOING OFF AND GLASS SHOWERED DOWN ON MY HEAD. STARTLED, I SWERVED ON THE HIGHWAY, BUT LUCKILY DID NOT HIT ANY OTHER VEHICLES. I PULLED OFF THE FREEWAY AND FOUND THAT MY SUNROOF HAD EXPLODED WITH NO OUTSIDE INFLUENCE. IT WAS SHATTERED AND THE GLASS WAS BLOW OUT IN AN UPWARD FASHION, AS IF IT HAD HAPPENED FROM THE INSIDE OF THE VEHICLE. I IMMEDIATELY TOOK THE VEHICLE TO THE LOCAL HONDA DEALERSHIP AND THEY STATED THAT IT WAS NOT FROM AN OUTSIDE SOURCE. THE HOOD VIBRATES VIOLENTLY IN SPEEDS OF 60+ MILES AN HOUR. WHEN A LARGE TRUCK OR VEHICLE DRIVES PASSES THE CAR THE HOOD VIBRATES VIOLENTLY. WHEN ON A TWO LANE ROAD AND ON COMING TRAFFIC GOES BY THE CAR THE HOOD VIBRATES VIOLENTLY. THIS ISSUE HAS BEEN PRESENT SINCE I PURCHASED THE CAR IN JUNE 2016. THE HONDA DEALERSHIP STAYED THIS WAS WITHIN THE DESIGN SPECS FOR THE PILOT. I HAVE MADE EVERY ADJUSTMENT I CAN MAKE WITH THE RUBBER GROMMETS WITH NO SUCCESS. HONDA TELLS ME THER IS NO ADJUSTMENT. I AM A PORT ENGINNER AND I MANAGE SHIP REPAIR. THIS IS A SERIOUS ISSUE. THE VIBRATION WILL OVER TIME CAUSE THE HOOD HINGES TO FAIL FROM FATIGUE. THIS WILL CREATE A SITUATION WHERE A CONSUMER DRIVING THE 2016 HONDA PILOT TO POTENTIALLY HAVE HOOD FLY OFF THE VEHICLE DURING NORMAL DRIVING CAUSING CATASTROPHIC FAILURE AND INJURY TO THE DRIVER AND PASSENGERS.

Corrective Action:

THE HONDA DEALERSHIP STAYED THIS WAS WITHIN THE DESIGN SPECS FOR THE PILOT. I HAVE MADE EVERY ADJUSTMENT I CAN MAKE WITH THE RUBBER GROMMETS WITH NO SUCCESS. HONDA TELLS ME THER IS NO ADJUSTMENT. THE FIRST INCIDENT OCCURRED IN MAY 2016 ON A BUSY CITY STREET WITH OUR THREE YOUNG CHILDREN IN THE CAR. WHILE IN MOTION, THE CAR ESSENTIALLY SHUT DOWN WITH THE DISPLAY SCREEN SHOWING A SERIES OF WARNINGS INDICATING NUMEROUS SYSTEM FAILURES. THERE WAS NO ENGINE POWER BUT LUCKILY I WAS ABLE TO COAST THE VEHICLE TO A NEARBY PARKING LOT. THE DEALER INDICATED THERE WAS NO PROBLEM, JUST A COMPUTER GLITCH, AND THE ONLY REPAIR NECESSARY WAS TO RESET THE COMPUTER/SOFTWARE. THE SECOND INCIDENT OCCURRED LAST WEEK, ONLY THIS TIME WHILE DRIVING ON THE FREEWAY. WE COMPLETELY LOST ALL ENGINE POWER BUT LUCKILY I WAS IN THE RIGHT LANE AND I WAS ABLE TO COAST TO THE SIDE AND PULL OVER ON THE SHOULDER. AGAIN WE EXPERIENCED TWO SEPARATE INCIDENTS WHERE THE CAR IMMEDIATELY SHUT DOWN WHILE IN MOTION WITH THE MOST RECENT OCCURRING ON THE FREEWAY. THIS IS A FOLLOW UP TO COMPLAINT 10881962 IN WHICH ONE OF MY FEARS HAS COME TO FRUITION. I WAS DRIVING MY CAR IN THE NORMAL MODE (ACC AND LKAS DISABLED) ON A NORMAL TWO LANE PAVED ROAD WHEN THE CAR IN FRONT OF ME MADE A SLOW RIGHT TURN. I WAS NOT FOLLOWING VERY CLOSELY AND CAME TO A COMPLETE STOP ON MY OWN TO AVOID RUNNING INTO THE OTHER CAR. I STOPPED ABOUT 15 FEET AWAY FROM THE OTHER CAR. THE OTHER CAR THEN COMPLETED THE TURN TO THE EXTENT THAT THE OTHER CAR WAS NO LONGER IN THE WAY OF ME DRIVING FORWARD IN A STRAIGHT LINE. WHEN I PUSHED THE GAS TO THEN PROCEED THE COLLISION MITIGATION SYSTEM STARTED FLASHING THE "BRAKE" MESSAGE AND PRODUCING AN AUDIBLE WARNING. AT THIS POINT I WAS POSSIBLY GOING 10 MPH AGAIN. AFTER VERIFYING THAT THERE WAS DEFINITELY NOT ANYTHING IN MY WAY, I KEPT APPLYING THE GAS. MY CAR THEN STARTED BRAKING ON ITS OWN, AT WHICH POINT I PUSHED THE GAS HARDER TO PRESUMABLY OVER-RIDE THE BRAKING. A MOMENT OR TWO LATER, MY CAR THEN MADE A SUDDEN AND HARD BRAKE ON ITS OWN THAT BROUGHT MY CAR TO A COMPLETE STOP, DESPITE THE FACT THAT I WAS PUSHING HARD ON THE GAS. THE OTHER CAR THAT HAD TURNED WAS WELL CLEAR OF THE LANE BY THIS POINT, AND WAS EASILY 1 FT AWAY FROM MY PATH OF TRAVEL WHEN I STARTED ACCELERATING IN THE FIRST PLACE. IN EITHER CASE, THE SYSTEM MALFUNCTIONED TO THE POINT THAT MY CAR WAS SUDDENLY BROUGHT TO A COMPLETE STOP, AND THE CAR BEHIND ME VERY NEARLY REAR-ENDED ME IN A SITUATION WHERE I HAD ALREADY COME TO A STOP, AND THE OBSTACLE IN FRONT OF ME HAD CLEARED / CONTINUED TO BECOME INCREASINGLY MORE CLEAR OF MY PATH.
