UNKNOWN OR OTHER

Potential Consequences:

The rear view camera sometimes stops working when backing up. Even if you go in park and go to hit reverse button again to "reset" it will still be a black screen. In a van, its difficult already driving a larger vehicle and adding the fact that you can't see when backing out of a spot or when going out of a drive way or even into a driveway, increases room for error or injury. This has been an issue over the past couple years and my Honda dealership has said there is a delay in the part but that it has been "ordered" for a long time now. Last time they "re ordered" was October 2022. I checked on part again while at the dealership January 2023 and it has still "not arrived" so they are unable to fix it. No warnings appeared on the vehicle just a black screen. They did a "factory reset" when I took it in January to reset other delay features with the screen and issues with the sound. I explained that there is a recall on rear view camera and a warranty for 5 years or 60k miles (whichever comes first) for the audio. I am at 56k miles, and they said to "watch it" to see if it does it again. Unacceptable.

Corrective Action:

FUEL/PROPULSION SYSTEM

Potential Consequences:

The low pressure fuel pump has failed. Honda has issued recall #21V215000 in March of 2021 regarding this issue on almost a million vehicles. My vehicle has failed, leaving me without transportation in the winter. Thankfully the car just failed to restart and I wasn't in traffic but this could absolutely happen to others (as described in the recall) so it is apparent that Honda was not genuine in their attempt to fix this problem as there are obviously other models in the year & model range they recalled that are being exempted from the recall that are destined to fail.

FORWARD COLLISION AVOIDANCE: WARNINGS

Potential Consequences:

I have a CMBS issue. Nothing around that would trigger it just driving through an intersection and the CMBS came on and basically just stopped the car for no reason. I get these "BRAKE" messages mostly when the car in front of me is turning right and the Odyssey doesn't think I slow down enough. I know the car is turning, the Odyssey doesn't. I've also had it come up a couple times while going around a curve, I think it detected the oncoming traffic as being in my lane and it told me to "BRAKE". I have video files to prove from my dash cams but I could not upload these files here. Honda dealer misdiagnosed to replace power distribution module but it did not fixed and I found other Honda vehicles has the same CMBS issue. Hoping you got some resolution. Thanks.

Potential Consequences:

There is often an acceleration hesitation, I have taken the vehicle to various Honda dealers and received no answers of what may be causing the acceleration to be delayed. Coming from a complete stop and trying to pull out and make a left or right turn with oncoming traffic the vehicle doesn't accelerate immediately risking a chance of me being hit by oncoming traffic. I am also teaching my daughter to drive, and we were nearly hit by a car because the van stalled when she was making a left turn. After it fails to accelerate it then takes off at a very high rate of speed causing the wheels to peel off. At some point I feel like this defect is going to cause an accident or something worse. I just pray the issue is addressed before it happens to anyone. There is no warning light, or messages that indicate there is a problem. This problem is ongoing but not consistent on a daily basis it just happens often and randomly ,and has been going on for almost 2 years now.

Potential Consequences:

After driving for over 20 minutes this occurred. Driving down the highway my car had transmission code alert lost speed had to pull over. Turned off car then back on still had alert. For safety reasons I had to drive the car off highway with RMPs going up as I drive. I had the Car towed to a Honda dealership who said dead batter which erased codes and sensor was changed. Got the car back and I had an incident trying to cross traffic where I stepped on gas and it would not go at a normal speed until loud shift and it kicks in. Then another incident driving down highway in Atlanta traffic. Been driving for over an hour, took my foot off the gas due to construction. When I pressed the gas again no gas/speed. The speed kept dropping. No Alerts. Speed dropped to 40mph then a loud shift sound and the car started to regain speed. I am very concerned for my safety. Went back to Honda dealership and they are telling me nothings wrong with the car and no codes.

POWER TRAIN

Potential Consequences:

I have had my 2019 Honda Odyssey in for transmission problems on 3 occasions. The first two times were because of rough shifting with clunking and jerking when upshifting. The mechanic drove with me and after several upshifts with jerking and clunking did, finally, admit that it was rough upshifting. However, when I picked up the vehicle, I was told that nothing was wrong, but that they did download some software to help. I did not help. They said they couldn't address transmission problems unless the failure was experienced by their mechanics. A month later, I was driving about 60-65 mph, on a local highway, in heavy traffic, when the transmission slipped back to a low gear and stuck there with the engine racing. There was nowhere to turn off and cars and trucks were honking at me as I tried to pull over. (It was a very dangerous situation and my handicapped husband was with me. We were both very scared.)I was finally able to pull over into a parking area. but the car wouldn't shift down to neutral when I came to a stop. I called the Honda Dealer and asked if I should have it towed there. He said, "No, when this happens, just turn off the engine and then turn it back on again and see what happens." I did and the transmission acted normally again. I took it into the dealer the next day. They gave me a rental car so they could check it overnight, but returned it to me saying that they detected nothing wrong. I told them that there was something very wrong with the transmission and that I was reluctant to drive it. They replied that nothing could be done unless they witnessed the failure firsthand....the frantic phone call I made for help didn't count as evidence. I think they are hoping my warranty expires before the transmission goes....and It will go!

Potential Consequences:

The vehicle often judders/stutters when accelerating (almost seems like it is buckling), especially when going from low speeds to higher. On occasions, when accelerating, juddering has caused the vehicle to leap forward. This has been happening ever since purchase of the brand new vehicle from the dealer; however, it appears to be occurring more frequently now (at 40,000 miles). We have mentioned this to the dealer and they only recommended a transmission flush. We are concerned both about safety and the durability of the vehicle itself (which was a pretty expensive purchase). On researching this further, it appears that several other owners have been complaining about similar problems.

POWER TRAIN

Potential Consequences:

On Sunday while driving on North Gayton Road at 45 MPH the car started making a terrible sound almost like one makes when overheating and there was a popping type sound. I looked at the dash and it showed a large red "P" which I initially thought was an error code of sometype. I quickly pulled over into the next available turn and noticed when I stopped that the electronic gear shift was in Park and not Drive. That was what the big red "P" was on the dash. It had tried to shift into Park while we were driving. It scared us to death. It has had other minor erratic electrical type problems. The flashers will suddenly be on when no one was near that button, or we will be driving down the road on a bright clear day and the wipers will come on briefly and then usually turn off after a few wipes. I do not know if it is the prom, or the computer, or a short somewhere. This morning it says the battery is low, but it is a brand new battery. We have 67196 miles on the car.

Additional Notes:

On Sunday while driving on North Gayton Road at 45 MPH the car started making a terrible sound almost like one makes when overheating and there was a popping type sound. I looked at the dash and it showed a large red "P" which I initially thought was an error code of sometype. I quickly pulled over into the next available turn and noticed when I stopped that the electronic gear shift was in Park and not Drive. That was what the big red "P" was on the dash. Defect Description:

ELECTRICAL SYSTEM

Potential Consequences:

When stopping at an intersection multiple times the idle stop turns the car off and the vehicle refuses to start again and all electronics stop working until the vehicle is turned off completely and the driver door is opened. Does not happen all the time so can't consistently reproduce to have a service center confirm. Vehicle has been inspected during other recall repairs and I was told the repairs being done would not fix that issue.

Defect Description:

POWER TRAIN

Potential Consequences:

Hesitation of the transmission, the car doesn't go or hesitates. According to the dealership this is "normal" for this type of transmission. This is not normal for a vehicle and if this is "normal" for this type of transmission, there is something wrong with it. I've been lucky that an accident hasn't occurred, but I've been scared it would on multiple occasions. This happens typically in stop and go traffic.
