Safety Issue:

General Motors, LLC (GM) is recalling certain 2023 Chevrolet Silverado 1500, GMC Sierra 1500, 2023-2024 Chevrolet Tahoe, Suburban, GMC Yukon, Yukon XL, Cadillac Escalade, and Escalade ESV vehicles. The electronic brake control module software may fail to display a warning light when a loss of brake fluid occurs. As such, these vehicles fail to comply with the requirements of Federal Vehicle Safety Standard number 135, "Light Vehicle Brake Systems."

Potential Risk:
Without a warning light, the vehicle may be driven with low brake fluid, which can reduce braking performance and increase the risk of a crash.
FREE Recall Solution:
The Electronic Brake Control Module (eBCM) software will be updated through an over-the-air (OTA) update or by a dealer, free of charge. Owner notification letters were mailed October 25, 2024. As such, these vehicles fail to comply with the requirements of Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard number 108, "Lamps, Reflective Devices, and Associated Equipment."

VISIBILITY:REARVIEW MIRRORS/DEVICES:EXTERIOR

Potential Consequences:

I bought a 2023 GMC Sierra Elevation pickup truck and I need towing mirrors and GM will not sell me them. They offer them if you order a truck which takes a long time. I had to buy my truck off the dealers lot because I had an accident with my previous truck. I tow a 34' long 8' wide travel trailer and feel it is a safety hazard not having towing mirrors to safely see, drive and maneuver my travel trailer driving. I don't buy any excuses that they're not available due to shortages. I talked to my dealer, GMC customer support who also transferred me to their accessory representative who wouldn't talk to me because I wasn't a dealer.

The contact stated that the failure was not present while driving on a flat roadway. The vehicle was not taken to the dealer or an independent mechanic. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure but was unable to provide any assistance. The failure mileage was 1,000.

UNKNOWN OR OTHER

Potential Consequences:

Sunroof glass shattered. This is the first summer for the truck. Travelling at ~75MPH the sunroof glass shattered. Neither driver nor passenger saw any objects in the air. I was not travelling under an overpass. Over the last 2 months I have been awaiting repair I have tried various methods to cover the sunroof and all have failed. Some easily pop off. Others hold better, but when travelling at higher speeds (>50MPH), the covering will bulge outward presumably from the pressure difference from outside to inside the cabin. My guess at root cause is a combination of pressure on the glass created by airflow over the truck at highway speeds, ~85degF air temperature, full sun load, and possibly stress of the roof (which is black).

Potential Consequences:

I sent my vehicle to the dealer, Brandywine GMC dealer in Bradywine MD. To have my fluids topped off upon receipt of my truck the next day my truck broke down. I sent my truck back to the dealer where they said Def was placed into the diesel tank by me, which was a lie. I filed an insurance claim because the dealer accused me of putting Def into my diesel tank. The insurance company paid to have everything fixed, however shortly after receiving my car I was traveling the interstate and my speed was cut back to 15 miles per hour per the trucks computer, which almost caused my vehicle to be rear ended. I took the truck to Alexandria va GMC because the codes were telling me that the injection system default , which Brandywine was supposed to have fixed.

FUEL/PROPULSION SYSTEM

Potential Consequences:

The fuel in the tank is splashing around and makes bump sound when you come to a stop and is worse when the fuel take is full and goes away the lower the tank gets. GMC has a service bulletin out PIT5161J stating this is a normal condition. This is not normal, I have never had any vehicle I have owned have a fuel tank noise let alone have felt a bump that you can feel in the seat. There is obviously something manufactured wrong and needs to be addressed.

Potential Consequences:

At just 600 miles, the 2023 GMC Sierra 3.0 Duramax gave out a check engine light. The code reader displayed a P0402. The truck had a very strong fume odor. The truck was taken to service two times. GM engineering made tests on the truck and concluded that the truck needs to be reprogrammed. I have a case number established with GM (case number 9-9217617941). If the program is bad, why release the product to the public? See attached invoice for details. This issue is present on almost all LZ0 GMC trucks based on people I've met in forums. Please help us.

ELECTRICAL SYSTEM

Potential Consequences:

The infotainment system loses all audio through the speakers intermittently. when this happens I also lose the Safety warning chimes as well. shutting off the vehicle for an extended period of time resets something and it resumes normal function. I have contacted GM customer service and spoke to 3 different representatives and requested an escalation to a Senior Advisor, which i was told could take up to 4 days to hear back. the vehicle has 800 miles and is 1 month old, this has occurred 4 times. it has not been looked at by the manufacturer as i am waiting for return communication. Other than no sound, everything else on the touch screen seemed to be working normal, but im no technician to determine that. i feel this is a safety concern as i travel with my 13 month old daily.
