UNKNOWN OR OTHER

Potential Consequences:

While driving, the infotainment system will suddenly increase volume to 100%. Have had this happen 4 times. Unable to turn sound down the last instance (or turn it off). Was able to find a safe spot to park and turn the vehicle off. This did nothing, as the radio would not turn off regardless of what I had done. After roughly 5 minutes of the vehicle being shut off, the radio finally turned off. No matter how many times the truck was turned on and off, the issue persisted. The only "fix" that worked was to let the vehicle for some time, which seemed to reset the system. THIS IS A MAJOR HAZARD AS HAVING SUDDEN SHOCK FROM VOLUME ISSUES IS EXTREMELY DANGEROUS. The sudden increase in volume nearly caused an accident on the road (each time). Vehicle is being brought to a dealer today to figure out the issue, but I see that it has been reported in several forums online with no fixes appearing to be available. Prior to the issue, there was no other issues or prior symptoms to alert of an issue.

Potential Consequences:

When traveling out of town on the interstate approximately 70/75mph. Part of our hood/trimming deluged scraping our hood and nearly Colliding with two other vehicles. Not something that is common and seems to me a manufacture defect that GM is trying to wipe their hands of and I will not stand for that. I have been trying for about a month to get GM to repair this odd phenomenon. However they continue to give me the complete run around. It’s been absolutely impossible to get a hold of anybody the dealership will not help me. I keep receiving email from Gm saying they attempted to make contact but, I did not answer my phone. I have my phone on me at all times I have received no voicemails from them. I write and called them back. I haven’t received a return call/voicemails, or email. GM originally refer me back to the dealership when the dealership will not help me. They originally said they will order the part. I have to pay for the part and they will pay for labor. They contacted me when they had the part in hand supposedly. I sat at the dealership for three hours today for them to tell me that part was not correct and that they can’t cover it and that I would need to cover it , I am tired of the games and I want my vehicle fixed. I have been left with no choice but to file complaint.

Potential Consequences:

Tailgate randomly opened while in park. This is a problem for multiple reasons. When hauling a travel trailer when you put the truck in park the tailgate falls into the jack denting the tailgate and scratching the paint. On some trailers it would be possible for the tailgate to fall onto the jack switches causing the jack to go down unexpectedly. The only way to get the trailer off is not put the truck in Park which isn’t safe at all! The truck rolls in neutral if the parking brake isn’t on. You should be able to put the truck in park and not worry about the tailgate. I called GM a few months ago when this first happened and then it stopped until it rained this weekend while camping. I told them at the time I didn’t want it falling when I started hauling the camper. They said at the time that a dealer would have to look at it and did say there isn’t a recall on this truck like on the HD trucks so is essence I basically have to hope it does it while at the dealership so they will believe me as my word doesn’t mean anything. In my case after the switch is dry it doesn’t do it. Now I have video recording as it is memorial day and pretty hard to get it into the dealer when they are closed just to have it with fine there.

POWER TRAIN

Potential Consequences:

The engine failed while driving on the expressway. It is clearly the fault of the Active Fuel Management (AFM) system but GMC will not honor the warranty because I went over 7,500 miles between oil changes. This is a problem because the car stopped operating while driving down the interstate. Manufacturer inspection took place. They looked at the oil filter and saw the metal in the oil filter. No warning lamps, messages or symptoms of any sort prior to the engine failure.

POWER TRAIN

Potential Consequences:

The transmission became inoperable and a message appeared on the display 'Engine Power Is Reduced' in area of the highway where the speed limit is 55 and then the transmission failed completely and left the engine revving at high rpm and not moving the vehicle forward and we rolled to the side of the road to a stop. This was a very dangerous situation as traffic was flying past us and had to move out of the way of our coasting vehicle. It was towed to a GMC dealership about 8 miles away as it is still under warranty. I've read many stories in GM forums about problems with this GM 10 speed transmission in this pickup truck. This needs to be looked into as a potential recall as this problem left us stranded on the side of the road as we had to wait for a ride because we had a dog with wife and I. Currently there is not a transmission recall listed for this vehicle. We were lucky to be in an area where we had cell phone service and relatively close to home, within 10 miles. We have a trip planned for next weekend to go to a couple national parks in Utah and now we don' t have a vehicle to take on this trip to haul out bikes.

I am reaching out to you to make a report of a safety issue involving the 2022 GMC Sierra 1500 Denali model trucks (Vin [XXX] ). I recently read that there was a recall involving the 2020-2023 model 2500 GMC Sierra’s and their Multi-Latch tailgate. I have checked with GMC and my local dealer to see when or if my model would be included in this recall and they have no answer/response for me. The reason for my concern is that I had an issue last year with my tailgate dropping while in motion while pulling my camper. The result was that my tailgate was destroyed and damages were made to my camper as well with both needing to be repaired. The only reason that the bikes, propane tanks, etc that was in the back of my truck didn’t fall out and into moving traffic was because my camper was hooked up thankfully. Its very concerning to know that this same thing can happen again in the future at any given moment with the lack of a recall on my specific model truck. If the things I were hauling would have flown out the back at 60-70 mph it could have ended a lot worse for someone who was following behind me on the road. Additionally, the damages had to go on my driving record as an “at fault” accident which in turn caused a rise in my personal insurance rates. My insurance company assured me that the only way this can be removed was if an active recall were to be addressed with my model truck for the tailgate issue. Potential Consequences:

Multifunction tail gate opens while driving, opens when going over speed bumps, opens going over small bumps and opens while driving down the highway. I brought the vehicle to the GMC dealer, they replaced an electrical switch on the tail gate. This did not fix the problem, I called the dealer and they told me GMC does not have a repair for this new issue. This is a brand new truck that is under factory warrant, the truck has 10000 miles on it. If I ever have a load in the bed it may fall out onto the road or highway.
