Safety Issue:

General Motors LLC (GM) is recalling certain 2019-2020 Chevrolet Silverado 1500 and GMC Sierra 1500 trucks. The battery positive (B+) cable rings may have been manufactured with excessive glue, potentially causing an intermittent electrical connection between the B+ cable and alternator.

Potential Risk:
An intermittent electrical connection between the B+ battery cable and the alternator could cause the vehicle to stall, increasing the risk of a crash. The intermittent connection could also lead to electrical arcing, which could generate sufficient heat to damage surrounding material, increasing the risk of a fire.
FREE Recall Solution:
GM will notify owners, and dealers will inspect for the presence of glue or other contamination at the B+ cable attachment to the alternator and clean the connection and reattach the B+ cable connection, as necessary. If arcing has damaged the cable, nut, or alternator, the dealer will replace the damaged components. All services will be performed free of charge. GM issued owners an interim notification on February 4, 2020. GM issued second notice and the recall began March 9, 2019. Safety Issue:

General Motors LLC (GM) is recalling certain 2019 Chevrolet Silverado 1500, Cadillac CT6, and GMC Sierra 1500 vehicles. Due to an Electronic Brake Control Module (EBCM) software error, the vehicle's Electronic Stability Control (ESC) and Antilock Brake System (ABS) may become disabled. As such, these vehicles fail to comply with the requirements of Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard (FMVSS) number 126, "Electronic Stability Control" and 135, "Light Vehicle Brake Systems."

Potential Risk:
If the driver operates the vehicle unaware that ESC and ABS are not functioning, there is an increased risk of a crash.

ENGINE

Potential Consequences:

Engine failed while driving on the interstate. No warning lights and no known mechanical issues. Dealership maintained vehicle. Towed to nearest GMC dealership to be inspected and repaired. Tech told me before looking at it that it was probably an engine failure. He disclosed that my model engine was problematic and engine failure was common. He was right. My family could have been killed had I not been able to guide a powerless vehicle off the road out of traffic. A replacement engine was quoted for 15k. However GM did not have any and no eta on when they would. A used engine with 80,000 miles and only a 12,000 miles warranty was offered for 11k. I could afford neither as I’m still paying 1k a month for the vehicle. They are recalling vehicles with the same engine but only back to 2021. I’ve spent over 15k to get my truck back functional. I believe good morning should be held accountable. This known issue was never disclosed to me pre purchase or I would not have paid 80k for a truck to last only 120,000 miles

ENGINE

Potential Consequences:

I was experiencing rough gear shifting jumps and low power/acceleration but it was spotty and not continuous. While I was traveling on cruise control, my truck started misfiring. Once I got home the whole truck was shaking in place. I popped the hood and noticed the engine itself was shaking on the motor mounts. On the way to the mechanic, several lights (including check engine light) came on (the codes thrown were P0300-P0308). The mechanic attempted to clean the fuel injectors (that were replaced 30k miles go due to failure as well), but that did not solve the misfire. I was told the cylinder was dead, and upon inspection of the oil filter there were metal shavings throughout it and the engine, as well as a bent cam shaft. All symptoms and issues I've experience, which resulted in a complete engine swap, are similar to those of the 2021-2024 GMC Sierra 6.2L engines that were just recalled. I would like to know how many other 2019-2020 5.3L engines have had failure before 90k due to similar issues and if there is a larger concern here.

Corrective Action:

Trucks engine died going down the interstate no warning lights just died. Had it towed to the GM dealer where they told me the engine failed and the oil pan was full of metal. This was after I spent $5000 at the same dealer repairing it because it wouldn’t start. It’s at Ross downing gmc in Hammond Louisiana now for the 2nd week.

POWER TRAIN

Potential Consequences:

Bought used 2019 Denali Oct 2024 with 41 k miles on it. 1200 miles later started feeling vibration under load on highway. Took to dealership and they said I needed to replace torque converter. After that the transmission went out during test drive. Then waited 45 days for new transmission to find out the unit was defective. Now we’re going on 5 months and the truck still waiting on a replacement transmission. GM hasn’t acknowledged any of my complaints about this and said that they’re doing the best they can for me and is going to award me 10000 reward points for future use! What a joke! 5. months to replace a transmission? GM has completely failed its consumers, at least this one!

Rear sliding glass window is leaking water around the exterior frame. This is addressed in TSB 18-NA-383 but not covered under any warranty. My rear seats and carpet are becoming wet. I am concerned about the possibility of mold and an electrical short/fire resulting from water intrusion. There are many reports and discussions on the internet regarding this issue. Full window replacement estimated at $1300. Patchwork repair with caulk is estimated at $600 with no guarantees of success. I would expect GMC to cover the replacement of the rear glass in kind and remedy any other damage to my vehicle due to water intrusion into the cabin area.

ENGINE

Potential Consequences:

I was driving back from getting breakfast and the truck started to smoke and the truck just shut off on the street. As soon as the truck shut off, I received an alert on the dash that told me not to exceed a certain speed, but the truck was not moving at the time. I tried to restart the truck and I received another alert that said to put the truck in neutral and I ended up having to push the truck to a safe space. I call a tow truck to take the vehicle to the dealership for evaluation. I later spoke with the representative at the dealership and she told me that my 6.2L V8 engine had seized up. She could not tell me why it happened.
