Safety Issue:

General Motors LLC (GM) is recalling certain 2019-2020 Chevrolet Silverado 1500 and GMC Sierra 1500 trucks. The battery positive (B+) cable rings may have been manufactured with excessive glue, potentially causing an intermittent electrical connection between the B+ cable and alternator.

Potential Risk:
An intermittent electrical connection between the B+ battery cable and the alternator could cause the vehicle to stall, increasing the risk of a crash. The intermittent connection could also lead to electrical arcing, which could generate sufficient heat to damage surrounding material, increasing the risk of a fire.
FREE Recall Solution:
GM will notify owners, and dealers will inspect for the presence of glue or other contamination at the B+ cable attachment to the alternator and clean the connection and reattach the B+ cable connection, as necessary. If arcing has damaged the cable, nut, or alternator, the dealer will replace the damaged components. All services will be performed free of charge. GM issued owners an interim notification on February 4, 2020. GM issued second notice and the recall began March 9, 2019. Owners may contact Chevrolet customer service at 1-800-222-1020 or GMC customer service at 1-888-988-7267. GM's number for this recall is N192273510.

Safety Issue:

General Motors LLC (GM) is recalling certain 2019 Chevrolet Silverado 1500, Cadillac CT6, and GMC Sierra 1500 vehicles. Due to an Electronic Brake Control Module (EBCM) software error, the vehicle's Electronic Stability Control (ESC) and Antilock Brake System (ABS) may become disabled. Furthermore, if this specific error occurs, the vehicle's diagnostics will not illuminate the instrument cluster ESC and ABS malfunction warning lights. As such, these vehicles fail to comply with the requirements of Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard (FMVSS) number 126, "Electronic Stability Control" and 135, "Light Vehicle Brake Systems."

Potential Risk:
If the driver operates the vehicle unaware that ESC and ABS are not functioning, there is an increased risk of a crash.

ENGINE

Potential Consequences:

My 2019 GMC Sierra Denali shut off suddenly while I was stopped in traffic. The engine died, the steering wheel locked, and the dashboard displayed warning messages including “ESC,” “power,” and another I didn’t catch. The truck would not restart despite attempts. The check engine light is now on. This happened without warning, and I had no prior mechanical issues. The vehicle is well maintained, garage-kept, and recently received a full service including oil change, brake work, and 75K-mile recommended service. I fear this is related to a known issue affecting other GMC engines under investigation for sudden power loss.

Potential Consequences:

There is a common lifter failure issue with the 5.3 V8 engine in these vehicles and local mechanics I've spoken too are very aware. The 6.2L was recalled for the same reason. GM would not honor or cover any of this as it was "out of warranty", however, I strongly feel this should be investigated.

ENGINE

Potential Consequences:

The engine failed and needs full replacement. Known GM issue with lifters. Engine style 6.2L. We contacted GM and they are not responsive and they provided a claim number. To repair is over 9,000$ and I still owe about 7000$ and the truck was purchased brand new. GM cannot furnish a replacement engine. The dealer showed 34 in stock when ordered. The dealer contacted us later stating GM canceled the order and they do not have an ETA when they can send an engine for the vehicle. We are paying on a vehicle that is stuck at dealer and cannot be repaired.

ENGINE

Potential Consequences:

I had a 2019 GMC Sierra with a 6.2L gas engine. The engine failed while I was driving on the highway at 65 mph. The truck began shaking badly, check engine light and all kinds of warning lights came on. I pulled over and drove slowly 10 miles to a GM dealer who then told me that I should not be driving the truck due to safety concerns and it could lose power and lead to an accident. I had it towed back to my home town ($500 later) to the GMC dealer where I purchased the truck. They told me the same thing, it could not be driven. GM has since recalled vehicles with this same 6.2L engine manufactured in model years 2021-2024. I believe that recall should have included my 2019 truck. I was at risk of serious injury or death due to engine failure, fortunately I did not crash. However, I lost $14,000 in value of the truck thanks to the faulty engine. I believe the recall should be expanded and I should be compensated by GM for the engine failure. I have attached the estimate for the repair.

ENGINE

Potential Consequences:

I am reporting a serious mechanical and safety issue with my 2019 GMC Sierra 1500 (5.3L engine). The truck began misfiring, running rough, and would frequently “jump” and shut off while driving — creating an unsafe situation on the road. We attempted several repairs to resolve the issue: •Transmission flush •Replaced the intake manifold gasket •Replaced all eight fuel injectors •Inspected all ignition coils •Replaced faulty sensors The vehicle repeatedly showed a Cylinder 8 misfire, even after these repairs. Eventually, it was diagnosed that both the lifters and camshaft are bad, and the engine now needs a full replacement. This is extremely concerning because the truck has only about 47,000 miles on it. We brought it to the dealership in September 2024, while it was still under warranty, and told them it wasn’t running right. The dealership said there was nothing wrong. Now that the warranty has expired, GM is refusing to help with any repairs. This appears to be a manufacturing defect that was not properly diagnosed while under warranty. Engine failure at such low mileage, especially with early warning signs and repeated diagnostic errors, should be investigated as a serious reliability and safety concern.

Corrective Action:

ENGINE

Potential Consequences:

Since I bought the truck, it has had transmission problems. The truck will violently jerk forward between Park - 1st - 2nd gears (up and down) pretty frequently. The dealership denied being able to recreate the issue and nothing was wrong. After dropping the vehicle off a few times, the dealer service dept said they recreated the problem and replace the torque converter. It did not work and the service dept manager told me that they knew about the problem the whole time but were instructed by General Motors to not attempt to fix the issue. I called GM Company and a supervisor eventually admitted to knowing of the transmission and engine issues all along but the GM engineers have not found a solution yet but they are working very hard to figure it out. Since those calls, my lemon law claim with BBB Auto was approved, but suddenly denied with no explanation. Following that, the #2 lifter failed and damaged the cam shaft. All were replaced and that was at 70,000 miles. The transmission has not been fixed.

ENGINE

Potential Consequences:

I was driving down the road no lights on the dash, when suddenly the dash lit up saying shift to park to restart. Ended up having to hurry and shift to neutral in order for the vehicle to not cause an wreck and coasted into parking lot. I tried to restart my truck and engine would not start. Had it towed to a dealership and lifters had ate through the cam shaft. Luckily I had an extended warranty and only had to pay a deductible for a new engine. They put a new engine in and I already have a rattle coming from it with less then 10,000 miles on it.

POWER TRAIN

Potential Consequences:

I was headed out of town and stopped in the neighborhood at a stop sign. As usual, the Auto Stop/Auto Start feature turned the engine off and when I lifted my foot off the brake pedal to reengage the engine, the truck started rolling backward. The engine would not start even though all the gauges and systems were working as if the engine was on. I had the truck towed to my mechanic and after troubleshooting, they determined the engine was locked up and would need to be totally replaced. My truck has the 6.2L gas engine and have since learned that GMC is recalling later model trucks with this engine in them due to engine failure. If my engine failure had happened anywhere other than at a stop sign in a neighborhood, it could have caused a significant accident. I can't find a new engine because of the GMC recall and the cost to replace the engine with a lower mileage, used engine is approximately $16,500.

STEERING

Potential Consequences:

This is a second report of an issue that first happened in February 2025, the dealer replaced the battery and called it fixed. On Friday 5-2-2025 I started the vehicle and as I was driving the dash lit up with these warnings: Service Trailer brake system, Service ESC, Brake System Failure 62 mph top speed, Steering assist reduced drive with care, The vehicle steering got stiff and brake pedal went to the floor board with a little braking available if I stood very hard on the brake pedal. I got off to the side of the road, cycled the truck on and off and was able to drive off. It did this three times before I could get it to the dealer the next day, If my daughter was driving I would have expected that two of the three would have resulted in a wreck as she would not have been strong enough to steer or stop the vehicle. The dealer had it three days and replaced the brake master cylinder and called it fixed, I picked the vehicle up and on the way home I stopped for gas, after the gas station the dash displayed: Service brake assist, I turned right around and took it back to the dealer, they checked the code and said the brake assist module was drawing too much current, I picked the vehicle back up three days later, they said they bleed the air out of the brake system and called it fixed. No one wants to ride with me and my daughter is begging me to trade the truck, they call it a death trap waiting to happen. GM says it is all normal issues.

No one wants to ride with me and my daughter is begging me to trade the truck, they call it a death trap waiting to happen. GM says it is all normal issues.

Additional Notes:

This is a second report of an issue that first happened in February 2025, the dealer replaced the battery and called it fixed. On Friday 5-2-2025 I started the vehicle and as I was driving the dash lit up with these warnings: Service Trailer brake system, Service ESC, Brake System Failure 62 mph top speed, Steering assist reduced drive with care, The vehicle steering got stiff and brake pedal went to the floor board with a little braking available if I stood very hard on the brake pedal. I got off to the side of the road, cycled the truck on and off and was able to drive off.
