ENGINE

Potential Consequences:

I have a 2019 gmc sierra 1500 elevation. The dash indicated low oil with 60lbs of oil pressure. I stop park my vehicle and see there is a puddle of oil underneath my truck. It appears to be leaking (extremely high flow rate) from the oil cooler lines where the rubber has given way from the metal crimping. Apparently after calling the dealership and reading online there isn't any type of recal for this issue even tho there is a Customer Satisfaction Program N212326940 implemented for Alaska and Canada due to the cold weather climate causing the failure. I live in western Pennsylvania and currently had a cold snap of 11°F. The dealership wants me to pay out of pocket and take my vehicle in to get diagnosed for service , which also means paying to have it towed to the dealership since it is un-drivable . Then pay for the very obvious service and file to see if I can be potentially reimbursed. This vehicle has less than 70,000 miles on it and is outside of the warranty. However this is a reported common issue online and even through the service department in Zelienople Pennsylvania because the tech. Told me they have the parts in stock because they do alot of them when I was inquiring into the issue.

ELECTRICAL SYSTEM

Potential Consequences:

At around 28,000 miles the truck started having intermittent electrical issues. The head unit will show a blue screen. Safty systems will automatically disable. Camera system failures. Even though the truck is a 2019 model it only has around 31,000 miles on it and is now out of warranty and I can’t afford to have the dealership chase electric issues. GMC should be ashamed of putting out such an unreliable vehicle.

AIR BAGS

Potential Consequences:

Issue 1: Driver side front seat airbag connector separated disabling the airbag. (repaired at my cost) Issue 2: Transmission (10 speed auto) developed stutter and skip consistent with complaints resulting in recall of 2020 (next model year truck) due to risk of rear wheel lock up. GM needs to include the 2019 models that were built as 2019 (as 2020) in one of the plants while they continued to build the 2018 as 2018 "classics" during the changeover. My cost to repair will be $3600 and there is not guarantee that the new valve body is any better or if GM is simply giving me another 46k miles to wait for another failure.

POWER TRAIN

Potential Consequences:

My end of year 2019 produced GMC Sierra 1500 5.3 V8, 4WD X31 4 door truck had a serious malfunction that could have caused great harm. I was driving down my driveway at approximately 20 mph when the truck's rear wheels locked up, stopping the truck instantly, sending me into the steering wheel narrowly missing the windshield with my face. After a moment, I attempted to drive again to move the truck out of the travel path. When I did, the truck back wheels completely locked up again (when I reached 6mph). I had the truck towed to my local shop and was told that it was the transmission locking up making the wheels lock up. The part (transmission) that was ordered for repair was on national backorder and took over two months to get my truck repaired and functional again. I was fortunate to have a warranty (now expired) and pay a percentage of the repair fee, however, the total repair fee was near 12,000. This was paid for by myself and my warranty company. Considering the part was on national backorder, I know that these types of problems are occurring with many of these trucks. I learned of the recall for this same problem that my truck had and checked the recall for my vin. To my complete surprise, my truck was not listed as being recalled, even though the EXACT same problem occurred with my truck. I would like to get the cost of the repairs refunded considering it took GM so long to recall the problem leaving me to pay for their errors. This is not a cheap automobile and was expected to be built well. I am very fortunate that I was not on a major highway or traveling at a high rate of speed when this happened. It was a very scary ordeal being propelled into the windshield of your vehicle when driving due to abrupt, extremely unusual 100% mechanical failure of no fault of your own. This recall should be expanded to include ALL vehicles that have the faulty transmission, including mine. Repair receipts can be provided. I appreciate your time and consideration.

FUEL/PROPULSION SYSTEM

Potential Consequences:

On [XXX] at approximately 2 pm the 2019 GMC Sierra 1500 AT4 (with 6.2 gas motor) motor died while I was driving in traffic. Incident #1 - The vehicle started sputtering and died - no alerts on dash until after the truck died - an empty fuel tank symbol briefly lit up on dash that led me to suspect a fuel pump issue as the fuel tank was full. Safety issue = vehicle failure with no warning in traffic putting occupants in risk. The vehicle would not start and was towed to the GMC dealer where I had purchased the vehicle. Incident #2, the 2019 GMC Sierra 1500 AT4 has an electronic gear shifter and will not go into neutral unless engine is running - problem as needed tow as not able to crank yet struggled to get towed as transmission will not go into neutral - apparently dealer has special tool to put 2019 GMC Sierra into neutral that is not available to consumer. Service department at dealer - Childre GMC in Milledgeville GA - contacted me on September 25, 2024 and stated 2019 GMC Sierra 1500 AT4 needs a Fuel Pump Control Module part number 13565641 but the part is not available in the GM system and may take weeks or months for part to arrive. Apparently, there are other GM trucks at this dealership waiting same part (appears to be a national issue not just a one time issue). Dealer gave me a GMC customer service number to call. I called GMC customer service on September 25, 2024 and registered a complaint that no parts are available to fix my car. Neither the selling dealer or GM customer service offered any relief with a loaner or rental car. Internet searches on forums focused on new GMC/Chevrolet trucks confirm that multiple consumers have this issue with the Fuel Pump Control Module and that GM cannot supply the repair part. The part is not available on the secondary supply chain like AutoZone, Oreilly, or similar. INFORMATION REDACTED PURSUANT TO THE FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 552(B)(6)
