Defect Description:
ENGINE
Potential Consequences:
I brought my 2022 Ford Maverick hybrid to Franklin Ford dealership on 10/2/23 for repair with battery issues I was having previously. At random times the car would not turn on from start despite the battery testing at full power. Franklin Ford installed software updates they said resolved the power issue and I drove off the lot with the car on 10/7. 15 minutes later I was driving on the highway at 70 mph and the entire dash panel lost power. I tried to accelerate and the engine had no power as well. Fortunately I was safely able to move to the break down lane and coast into a highway exit. Since the car had no power I removed the key and tried restarting which worked successfully. My engine light was on and I received about 10 engine and powertrain warnings in my Ford mobile app. This was a major and life-threatening malfunction that the dealership had no explanation for and neither did my case worker at Ford Customer Service. I had owned the car for less than 12 months at the time and it was extremely concerning knowing that the car could now shut off at a moments notice while driving. I returned the vehicle to the same Franklin Ford dealership where it received the software update that seemed to put the vehicle into failure. Their solution was to reroute the wiring harness through the engine since it was previously exposed to the wheel well and had corroded the external layer of the harness. I'm submitting this report because I have seen dozens of similar cases with the same year and model as me. As a first time customer of Ford this has been a nightmare experience.

POWER TRAIN
Potential Consequences:
Driving around 40 mph and suddenly my dash lights up light a Christmas tree. Car enters limp mode and slows down on its own. Notified via ford app of power train failure, pre collision and service engine (although my car was serviced a couple of weeks prior). Dropped my vehicle off at the dealership and they decided to hang onto it as they have no solution and are waiting for engineering to provide one.

POWER TRAIN
Potential Consequences:
I had my truck in for recall fixes. Since then it has intermittently gone into limp mode twice. No warning or notice. The first time it happened I was merging onto the freeway. This could have been a serious accident as I lost power and cars were flying around me at 60mph. I was left stranded twice while waiting for the tow truck and Lyft to pick me up. The dealership does not offer loner cars while yours is being fixed. So far the truck has been in the shop for this issue 18 accumulative days.

ENGINE
Potential Consequences:
I experienced a loss of engine power/propulsion at 71 mph. There were no warning lights, messages or chimes to indicate something was wrong. I only noticed I was losing speed when the cruise control went to the standby/cancelled state from the 71 mph set point. The accelerator pedal was completely unresponsive. I coasted to the side of the freeway and performed a key cycle by powering the vehicle off, opening and closing the driver’s door to put the modules to sleep. Once the instrument panel cluster and center stack screens went dark, I restarted the vehicle and was able to proceed with my trip. It’s worth noting that I recently had the instrument panel recall repair performed which was a reflash of the IPC module. Other Maverick drivers have reported similar incidents after Ford 24C01/NHTSA 24V140 was “fixed.” I will be reporting this to the manufacturer as well.

Defect Description:
POWER TRAIN
Potential Consequences:
This weekend I drove from home, Centerville, to Virginia and 3 TIMES the engine would shutoff or disengage the drivetrain. And I received this message: "Gear Selected will Engage at Low Speed". It happened on the highway at highway speeds. Each time I was going uphill. When it happened the first time, the check engine light came on and remained on for the duration of the trip to Virginia. Secondly, each of these times the gear shifter would start blinking and remain locked until stopping and shutting off. It seemed like the engine turned off as I could not hear it rev. Steering and braking worked like normal. Third, and this happened each time, as I was braking and stopping the truck would abruptly put itself into park just a half second before I came to a complete stop. upon restarting, the truck it put itself into grade assist mode, both against my wishes or the actual need for it. It took 2 to 4 tries for this to go away so I could drive like normal. The next morning I went for a short drive to get breakfast. Upon restarting, the engine light went back to normal and relit while driving. It has not come back on while driving since. Later, I went for a slightly longer drive and upon braking and coming to a complete stop for a stop light, the truck felt like I was driving over railroad tracks. This happened just that once. I ended up driving home through the rural but empty highways of West Virginia and through all that the above issues never returned. ~18K miles ~No idea if this relates, but this happened about 2 weeks after software reprogramming to address 2 recalls. ~Also unlikely to be related, but alert chimes would go off when opening the not-running truck. This happened for a couple of weeks, later sounding faster in timing, then another version of the chime. I always drive with a seatbelt on but it sounded like the chime from starting the truck without the belts on. There were no dash lights to indicate anything. And then that went away.

POWER TRAIN
Potential Consequences:
One week after having recall [XXX] completed on [XXX] driving on [XXX] at about 70 miles per hour my truck slowed down to 10 miles an hour with my dashboard lighting up with a slew of warning lights blinking like crazy. I was able to get to the side of the road before it conked out all the way. Luckily my wife and did not get rammed into. Service engine now, powertrain failure, will not go into gear at this speed, collision assist warning lights all came on and were blinking. This was [XXX]. Luckily somehow I got the computer rebooted and drove home very carefully. I took it to dealer the following Monday, they had it for 2 days but warning lights were not on so they gave it back to me with nothing rectified. One week later this happened again on [XXX] a smaller highway, same warning lights but at a slower speed. Once again I got the computer to reboot but had to hold my foot on the brake because vehicle wanted to take off and the speed limit was 35. I took it into the same dealer the next day [XXX] and it has been their since. Today is March 29. The dealer finally was able to get Ford to admit this recall screwed up some software and they have no fix yet. No one should go ahead and get this recall done because someone is going to get killed. The dealer finally was able to get Ford to admit this recall screwed up some software and they have no fix yet. No one should go ahead and get this recall done because someone is going to get killed. INFORMATION REDACTED PURSUANT TO THE FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 552(B)(6)
Additional Notes:
Defect Description:
ENGINE
Potential Consequences:
After driving about 500 ft, check engine light appeared, propulsion stopped immediately and I was only able to pull off road with momentum. Fortunately, I was at a driveway. Otherwise, I would have been required to park in the road (due to steep shoulders) on a two lane road. If I had been followed closely by a heavy vehicle, it probably would have rear-ended me since the propulsion quit so abruptly. After I turned truck off and restarted, it had enough propulsion to return 500 ft home at about 10 mph. -Vehicle is available for inspection upon request. No inspections performed other than dealer for repair/reset. -Dealer reset was done and no further problems noted. No replacement parts needed. Dealer said they had one other Maverick with this problem.
