MY EXPLORER SPORT WITH TURBO HAS A RECURRING OIL LEAK THAT THE DEALERSHIP HAS ATTEMPTED TO REPAIR A FEW TIMES. I CAN SMELL OIL BURNING WITHIN MINUTES OF DRIVING THE VEHICLE AND THERE ARE OIL STAINS ON OUR GARAGE FLOOR. MY CONCERN IS THAT OIL MAY BE LEAKING ONTO HOT ENGINE COMPONENTS CREATING A FIRE HAZARD. THE DEALERSHIP HAS HAD THE VEHICLE FOR OVER 2 WEEKS CUMULATIVELY AND I BELIEVE THIS IS PART OF A BIGGER PROBLEM. THE GM TOLD ME TODAY THAT HE BELIEVES THIS IS A FREAK OCCURRENCE, BUT IN SPEAKING WITH A FRIEND OF MINE WHOSE HUSBAND IS A MECHANIC ON FORDS, HE SAID THE FORD KNOWS THIS IS AN ISSUE, BUT HASN'T ISSUED A RECALL FOR THIS MODEL, YET. I'M NOT SURE WHAT TO DO AT THIS POINT. I JUST KNOW THAT I'M PAYING FOR A VEHICLE THAT I CAN'T DRIVE AND THE DEALERSHIP DOESN'T KNOW HOW TO REPAIR IT WHICH IS VERY CONCERNING.

ELECTRICAL SYSTEM
Potential Consequences:
I HAVE ENCOUNTERED TOO MANY ISSUES WITH THIS VEHICLE, MY BIGGEST ISSUE HAS TO DO WITH WHAT I THOUGHT I WAS HAVING A "FALLING ASLEEP AT THE WHEEL" ISSUE. THERE WERE A FEW TIMES LAST WINTER, AFTER LETTING THE CAR SIT STATIONARY AND WARM UP , THAT I COULDN'T "STAY AWAKE" WHILE DRIVING HOME ON THE FREEWAY. IT HAPPENED ONCE, TWICE, THEN CONTINUED, AND IT BECAME APPARENT IT WAS THE VEHICLE, NOT ME, THAT WAS CAUSING THIS. IT CAN BE BEST DESCRIBED AS THE SENSATION RIGHT BEFORE BEING PUT UNDER FOR A MEDICAL PROCEDURE. I WOULD THEN COME OUT OF THIS UNCONCIOUS STATE IN POTENTLALLY DEADLY DRIVING SITUATIONS. I ALSO NOTICED THAT MY DOG WAS BEING AFFECTED AT THE SAME TIME. I COULD SEE HIM GETTING ANXIOUS NEXT TO ME, AND THEN HAVE WHAT LOOKED LIKE A PANIC ATTACK UNTIL I PUT THE WINDOW DOWN. HE WOULD KEEP HIS HEAD OUTSIDE THE VEHICLE FOR A MAJORITY OF THE RIDE. I BASICALLY STOPPED USING THE HEATER. AT THE SAME TIME, THE BATTERY KEPT DYING, AND THE VEHICLE WOULD SHUT DOWN AND GO INTO A "BATTERY SAFE" MODE, AND IT NEEDED TO BE JUMPED EVERY OTHER TRIP. WHEN I TOOK THE CAR TO THE DEALER, THEY BASICALLY SAID THERE MAY BE A PROBLEM, BUT THEY DIDN'T HAVE THE REPLACEMENT PARTS, AND WOULD CALL ME WHEN THEY GOT IN. I NEVER HEARD BACK FROM THEM. THIS IS MY 3RD AND LAST LEASE WITH FORD, MY PREVIOUS 2 EDGES BOTH HAD NUMEROUS ELECTRICAL ISSUES, INCLUDING LOOSING POWER WHILE DRIVING. NOW, I'M IN AN UNSAFE VEHICLE, AND THEY WON'T EVEN ACKNOWLEDGE THE PROBLEM. I WANT OUT OF MY LEASE, BUT IN MY EXPERIENCE WITH FORD, THE CONSUMER LOOSES EVERY TIME. CAN'T FIGHT THEM IF THEY DON'T ACKNOWLEDGE THE PROBLEM. I'M PRAYING FOR MY LIFE, AND OTHER DRIVERS LIVES THAT SOMETHING GET RESOLVED QUICKLY BEFORE SOMEONE LOOSES THEIR LIFE. DOESN'T SEEM FAIR THAT THE CONSUMER HAS TO PAY FOR THE COMPANIES SHORTCOMINGS...

Corrective Action:

ROOF RACK RAILS WITH PLASTIC COVER ON DRIVERS SIDE DETACHED AND FLEW OFF THE VEHICLE AT A SPEED OF 70MPH. DIDN'T KNOW IT WAS OFF TILL I STOPPED FOR FUEL. IF THIS PART HAD HIT ANOTHER VEHICLE, IT COULD HAVE CAUSED AND ACCIDENT. IT IS IN MY OPINION THAT THIS SHOULD BE A SAFETY CONCERN. I DON'T WANT TO BE LIABLE FOR ANYONE BECOMING INJURED DUE TO THE COVER HITTING A WINDSHIELD OR CAUSING OTHER DAMAGES.

MY VEHICLE CONSISTENTLY HAS AN EXHAUST SMELL WHILE DRIVING AND REGISTERS CO LEVELS FROM 3-5 PPM IN NORMAL DRIVING CONDITIONS. UNDER HARD ACCELERATION THE CO LEVELS HAVE REGISTER ABOVE 11 PPM. THE SMELL AND CO LEVELS ARE AT THEIR WORST WHEN THE ENGINE IS UNDER A LOT OF STRAIN. FOR INSTANCE, WHEN PULLING A TRAILER. I HAVE RECORDED CO LEVELS AS HIGH AS 38 PPM WHEN PULLING A TRAILER. I HAVE TAKEN THIS VEHICLE TO THE DEALER TWICE ALREADY AND STILL DO NOT HAVE THE ISSUE RESOLVED. MY WIFE AND I SHOULD NOT HAVE TO MONITOR THE CO LEVELS IN OUR CAR. WE ARE AFRAID WE COULD BE CAUSING HARM TO OUR YOUNG CHILDREN AS WE SPEND A LOT OF TIME IN OUR VEHICLE. IS THERE ANY GUIDANCE ON WHAT THE LEVELS OF CO IN A VEHICLE SHOULD BE? I CANNOT FIND ANY IN MY RESEARCH. I HAVE PICTURES OF MY METER READING HIGH AS WELL AS SERVICE RECEIPTS FROM THE ATTEMPTED REPAIRS. THE VEHICLE GOES BACK THE WEEK OF THE JUNE 18TH FOR THE 3RD ATTEMPT, BUT THE DEALER IS STARTING TO PUSH BACK AND SAYING THAT I AM EXPERIENCING IS NORMAL.
