Defect Description:
SEATS
Potential Consequences:
The 2nd row Captain's chair track became broken and the seat is stuck on the track, in the forward most position. The seats can lift off the track to allow passengers to easily access the 3rd row. The seat, if the button is pushed, becomes stuck forward and needs to be manually released. Malloy Ford of Winchester VA is the dealership that has looked at this defect and determined it to be a warrantied repair. They will not comment on my safety concerns. I have reached out to Ford Motor Co with the same, silent response about safety. Parts are unavailable, according to them.

Defect Description:
POWER TRAIN
Potential Consequences:
The transmission "clunks" and occasionally slips gears. Most recently we were on four lane road and I went to pass a vehicle that was driving slow. When I pressed the gas the engine revved up and RPMs went high, but the car Expedition did not accelerate. I immediately let off the gas and we all heard a loud noise and the whole car shook. My family was with me and they thought I ran over something in the road, but I didnt. It was just the transmission going in to gear. I have had the dealership look at the vehicle and they could not recreate it. They told me to bring it back when it happens again, not if it happens again. They also said it is a common issue with the 10-speed transmissions. When I look up 10 speed transmission issues with Ford vehicles, I can see that there are tons of issues out there and Ford is aware of the problem. There is even a class action lawsuit. This is a huge safety concern and I am worried about the safety of my family while driving this vehicle.

POWER TRAIN
Potential Consequences:
Twice I have gone to accelerate and have no power. It shoots the vehicle into a fault and creates a high rpm and feels like it’s missing gears or that it didn’t shift. Both times have been close to getting us killed. Just a matter of seconds of getting hit by a semi. The other time it did it when turning through a stop light with a car coming head on. I believe it has to do with the transmission, but they don’t find anything wrong with it when they do a diagnostic. My life matters and so does everyone else that is in a vehicle. Please issue a recall on the 2020 ford expeditions to help find out why this happens.

POWER TRAIN
Potential Consequences:
I have a 2020 Ford Expedition with 40,000 miles on it and a Transmission problem. The first year I got it I had a incident where I was driving around 65 MPH and it just slammed it down to 1st gear on the freeway and I lost power. I tooked to the shop and they couldnt find anything. This last week I had it happen 3 times on a trip to DC. I would just be cruising and it would slam out of gear or down to a low gear all of the sudden. One of these could have been really bad! I had my whole family of 8 people of 495 outside of DC 5 lanes of traffic and it slammed out of gear, I heard a rattle and and I loss all power for about 5 to 10 seconds almost being hit by a semi. Then finally it caught another gear. This was all at 70 MPH in 5 lanes of heavy traffic! I am now afraid of traffic, high speeds, passing or merging. They say nothing can be found!! This is a lie! The same year Ford F150s with the same motor and transmission have a massive recall because they are doing the excact same thing with their 10 speed transmission!!. So much so that they cant get it back in to look at it again till September at the dealer because their Transmission guy is so busy. Please help before people get killed. I have read multiple people online saying they are having the same problem with their Expedition 10 speed transmissions

Potential Consequences:
On an express way on multiple occasions when I’ve tried to accelerate, the transmission disengaged completely. I was moving in traffic going 70-85 mph with no power to accelerate or maintain speed until the rpm hit 1000 and speed dropped below 45mph. Other times when going from park to drive or reverse the car will “clunk” and jerk like i was driving a stick shift and missed the mesh point to get into gear.

Potential Consequences:
Transmission slams into gear, lacks power, has put itself into park at 55mph. Was replaced by Ford and 1,400 miles later it blew up. 2.5 hours into a 9 hour road trip the transmission started leaking and hitting the exhaust pipe and caused the fluid to flare as it hit the hot exhaust. Vehicle filled with caustic smoke and odor. Put my family (with small children) in a very dangerous situation on interstate 64 on the side of Afton Mountain. Out of the 6 months I have owned this vehicle it has been at the Ford dealership 4.5 months while they try to figure it out. Spoke to Ford Corporate the next business day and they put in a request for the Ford Buy Back as it has been in the shop so many times for the same issue.

VISIBILITY/WIPER
Potential Consequences:
I have a 2020 Expedition that we have had to change the windshield wipers out on frequently. I just replaced them last week and they are already bouncing during a heavy rain. I saw there was a recall to some of the windshield wiper arms but when I entered my VIN, mine was not included.

Defect Description:
POWER TRAIN
Potential Consequences:
At approximately 35,000 miles we started noticing a harsh shift. We have taken the vehicle into the Ford Dealership 3 times and they have made repairs each time (overhauled main control valve body replacing the separator plate and channel plate, replaced the torque converter, replaced a broken seal inside C-clutch, replaced main valve body, flushed transmission cooler and lines). Each time the vehicle appears fine, but the harsh shift returns, typically within a couple thousand miles. The harsh shifting occurs when it shifts into 5th gear. At one point the vehicle stopped all forward movement and left me and my daughter blocking lanes of traffic at a very busy intersection - putting ourselves and other motorists in danger. Each time we take the vehicle in, the dealership test drives the vehicle and confirms the harsh shifting. One of the dealer techs stated they've had a lot of problems with the Ford 10 speed transmission. The transmission shifts start out fairly mild, but then get more intense pretty quickly. The harsh shifts have made loud clunking noises, caused the vehicle to lunge or shudder during shifts, and have almost felt like we were struck by something. On a roadtrip the transmission actually shifted hard enough that it woke my wife up who was in a deep sleep.

Bought this car new at a dealer. Slips, Jerks, delays accelerating. Getting on the highway it slipped into nuetral, very dangerous and scary. I’ve had it to two different dealers four different times since then. Lots of wait time in between and no loaner vehicles ( they are saying due to Covid). It started with gears 5,7,8. Now it’s all gears. I’m at 35k miles. I have 60k miles on extended warranty. This is a lemon. I don’t know what to do? I’ve called Ford customer service as well.

Anytime my SUV downshifts from a higher rate of speed, goes into reverse or shifts while going up a hill - the transmission makes an audible thunk noise, jerks the car, then proceeds to shift. It’s been in the shop 4 times and the problem hasn’t been solved. From nothing is wrong, to the “system update” to replacing gears, it’s in AGAIN. This has been on ongoing problem for 6+ months with no remedy.

The contact owns a 2020 Ford Expedition. The contact stated that while driving between 30-40 MPH, the vehicle unexpectedly downshifted. The contact stated that during the failure, a thud was felt and heard as if the vehicle had been involved in a collision. The contact stated that during one failure, the "shift system error, service required" warning message had appeared on the instrument panel. The contact had taken the vehicle to a dealer where a mechanic informed him that the CDF sleeve might have spun inside the transmission casing. The mechanic asked the contact for permission to tear down the transmission to confirm the failure; however, the contact declined the service. The manufacturer was then notified of the failure and transferred him to the NHTSA Hotline. The vehicle was not repaired and remained in the possession of the dealer. The failure mileage was approximately 65,000.
