Ford Motor Company
NHTSA Campaign: 22V413000 SAFETY RECALL
2.9M Vehicles Affected
Recall Date: Jun 10, 2022
Safety Issue:

Ford Motor Company (Ford) is recalling certain 2013-2019 Escape, 2013-2018 C-Max, 2013-2016 Fusion, 2013-2021 Transit Connect, and 2015-2018 Edge vehicles. The bushing that attaches the shifter cable to the transmission may degrade or detach.

Potential Risk:
A damaged or missing bushing may prevent the vehicle from shifting into the intended gear, and cause the vehicle to move in an unexpected direction. Additionally, the vehicle may roll after the driver selects the 'Park' position. Either scenario increases the risk of a crash or injury.
FREE Recall Solution:
Dealers will replace the under hood shift bushing and add a protective cap over the shift cable bushing, free of charge. Interim owner notification letters, informing owners of the safety risk, were mailed July 1, 2022. Remedy parts are expected to be available in 4th Quarter 2022. Owner notification letters were mailed October 27, 2022. Owners may contact Ford customer service at 1-866-436-7332. Ford's number for this recall is 22S43.
Additional Details:

Owners may also contact the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration Vehicle Safety Hotline at 1-888-327-4236 (TTY 1-800-424-9153), or go to www.nhtsa.gov.

Recall Date: Aug 11, 2020
Safety Issue:

Ford Motor Company (Ford) is recalling certain 2015-2018 Ford Edge and 2016-2018 Lincoln MKX vehicles. The front brake hoses may rupture prematurely.

Potential Risk:
A ruptured front brake hose will cause a brake fluid leak, lengthening the distance needed to stop the vehicle, increasing the risk of a crash.
FREE Recall Solution:
Ford will notify owners, and dealers will replace the front brake hoses with the new hoses that have a revised braid material, free of charge. Parts are not currently available. An interim letter notifying owners of the safety risk was mailed September 21, 2020. A second letter will be sent once parts are available, which is expected to begin April 15, 2021. ELECTRICAL SYSTEM

Potential Consequences:

I turned my car on and a Warning light of adaptive steering sensor came on. Then my steering wheel was not in the correct position while I was driving. I only have 80 thousand miles on this vehicle. I feel like this vehicle should have been included the recalls of the other 2017 ford edges. Adaptive steering issues. Please add my VIN # to the recall so I can fix this. I’m afraid to drive it now. Thank you for your time with this problem. I can’t afford to fix this. I was told it would cost close to 4000 dollars.

POWER TRAIN

Potential Consequences:

Started car and heard rattling noise. Took the car to shop and was told it was the flex plate. Called Ford to see if I could get it repaired under CSP 22n12 I was told I COULD NOT because I previously took my car to the Ford dealer because it was driving rough and making a sound so I took it in to see if it was the flex plate (another Ford dealer diagnosed it with the coolant intrusion issue) and because they said they inspected it and despite making no repairs the dealership closed the CSP 22N12 on my car. I called Ford Customer Service and was told I could file a complaint but there is nothing that they can do. First I had to deal with coolant intrusion and now the flex plate! I think it’s horrible that the consumer has to keep being financially responsible for the flaws of this suv. Another defective part that I’m left paying for and now my car has to just be parked until I can afford it.

ENGINE

Potential Consequences:

I bought the car used from a Ford Dealer in October 2024. The car had a clean CARFAX and solid maintenance history and just under 40,000 miles at time of purchase. In December 2024, there were several instances of rough idle at time of cold start that quickly cleared. In January 2025, it stopped blowing heat. My local garage found it was low on coolant but could not identify a leak. A few more days of driving showed continued loss of coolant. I brought it back to dealer I bought it from and their service department confirmed there was coolant in the engine cylinders and a full engine replacement was needed - a condition consistent with Ford's Technical Service Briefing issued in 2019. Ford customer service is unwilling to support the cost of that repair due to the age of the vehicle. Ford has admitted that there was a manufacturing defect in some of their engine line across models. They issued a recall for certain models with this issue, but not for my vehicle. It is insane to me that a car manufacturer, who acknowledges a mistake in production of their engines won't stand behind a vehicle with less than 45,000 miles on the engine.
