Ford Motor Company
NHTSA Campaign: 22V413000 SAFETY RECALL
2.9M Vehicles Affected
Recall Date: Jun 10, 2022
Safety Issue:

Ford Motor Company (Ford) is recalling certain 2013-2019 Escape, 2013-2018 C-Max, 2013-2016 Fusion, 2013-2021 Transit Connect, and 2015-2018 Edge vehicles. The bushing that attaches the shifter cable to the transmission may degrade or detach.

Potential Risk:
A damaged or missing bushing may prevent the vehicle from shifting into the intended gear, and cause the vehicle to move in an unexpected direction. Additionally, the vehicle may roll after the driver selects the 'Park' position. Either scenario increases the risk of a crash or injury.
FREE Recall Solution:
Dealers will replace the under hood shift bushing and add a protective cap over the shift cable bushing, free of charge. Interim owner notification letters, informing owners of the safety risk, were mailed July 1, 2022. Remedy parts are expected to be available in 4th Quarter 2022. Owner notification letters were mailed October 27, 2022. Owners may contact Ford customer service at 1-866-436-7332. Ford's number for this recall is 22S43.

Recall Date: Aug 11, 2020
Safety Issue:

Ford Motor Company (Ford) is recalling certain 2015-2018 Ford Edge and 2016-2018 Lincoln MKX vehicles. The front brake hoses may rupture prematurely.

Potential Risk:
A ruptured front brake hose will cause a brake fluid leak, lengthening the distance needed to stop the vehicle, increasing the risk of a crash.
FREE Recall Solution:
Ford will notify owners, and dealers will replace the front brake hoses with the new hoses that have a revised braid material, free of charge. Parts are not currently available. An interim letter notifying owners of the safety risk was mailed September 21, 2020. A second letter will be sent once parts are available, which is expected to begin April 15, 2021. ENGINE

Potential Consequences:

The car started burning through coolant. A pressure test was done to determine if there way a leak, and there wasn’t. About a week later it missed when I started the car and the check engine light came on. The light was from code P0304 which is a 4th cylinder misfire. This is posted as a service technical bulletin by Ford. As we drove the car it started to misfire while driving. I was worried it would stop running while I was driving. We took the car to AutoNation Westlake Ford. They determined it is coolant intrusion into the 4th cylinder and it is from a design flaw with the engine. It is a mechanical defect due to poor engine design. The entire engine needs replaced. I have called Ford customer service and they said there is nothing Ford can do to even assist with the $11,000 repair of the car. I am left with a car I cannot drive due to safety concerns for myself and others on the road. I either try to figure out how to pay $11,000 for the repairs or scrap the car and have nothing to show for it. It is in amazing condition. 104,000 miles. I have pictures attached of the bore scope used to see where the leak is happening. The coolant is seen on the mating surface of the engine block and running down into the 4th cylinder. You can see the previous trails of fluid all along the side of the engine as well.

ENGINE

Potential Consequences:

March 9, 2025 Big O installed 4 new tires on my 2017 Ford Edge w/Eco boost engine. March 22, 2025 engine light came on while driving. Because I just had it at Big O, I took it back to them to check. March 24, 2025 Big O diagnosed my car when code P0303 came on. Spark plugs were good, but technician saw via camera that coolant was leaking into the engine. I was told to call Ford & that I probably had to replace the entire engine. I called Groove Ford. Service manager confirmed with that code that I needed a new engine. It was out of warranty & had no recalls yet. I have always taken great care of my car & was shocked to hear this! From my research, Ford has known about this problem for years. I reported it to Ford customer service & got a claim number. They also said they won't provide financial assistance. This is my 2nd Ford & I'm REALLY disappointed with them. There are hundreds of people like me that have this problem with their Ford vehicle. A recall needs to be done!

Additional Notes:

ENGINE

Potential Consequences:

My vehicle started going through coolant. Next, it started to misfire and was having the check engine light come on. It had the code P0304. It was a cylinder 4 misfire. We took it in to get diagnosed at AutoNation Westlake Ford. It is part of the technical service bulletin. There is coolant leaking into the 4th cylinder of our vehicle causing this issue. It is now happening while driving. We contacted for customer service to see if they have any programs to assist with the repairs needed because the entire engine needs replaced and it is a known malfunction due to poor engine design. They said there is nothing that can be done from them.

ENGINE

Potential Consequences:

2017 Ford Edge begin overheating. Diagnostic test revealed a cracked block & coolant consumption issues. This vehicle has a 2.0 Ecoboost with open block design. The diagnostic test was performed by Jones Automotive, Germantown TN. Since the vehicle isn't drivable, it has not been taken to a Ford dealership. What I've ended up with in a mixture oil and coolant with a sludge consistency filtering throughout the engine which is now a non-operational vehicle with ~ $5,000 payoff. As far as safety is concerned, this vehicle was in danger of the engine catching fire. The only warning received was the engine overheating which prompted me to take it our ship to determine the problem.
