Toyota will be contacting the owners of some 2020 Toyota Highlander and Highlander Hybrid SUVs, because of a problem affecting the seat mounted side airbags. The affected vehicles are equipped with driver and front passenger seats with seat mounted side air bags that have a trim cover designed to tear during air bag deployment.

Due to a manufacturing error in the seat trim cover installation process, there is a possibility that one or both of the front seats were not equipped with the correct cover. This condition could prevent the air bag from deploying properly and could increase the risk of injury to the occupants of the seats, during a crash.

Those receiving notices will be asked to return to their dealerships to have the front seats inspected and replace as necessary Toyota's number for this recall is 20TB14 / 20TA14 and the NHTSA campaign number is 20V-633.
