2019 Subaru Ascent Driveshaft Separation

Subaru will be contacting the owners of certain 2019 Ascent SUVs regarding a safety problem affecting the power train driveshaft in their vehicles.

 

According to the defect report, the propeller shaft center support brace bolt surfaces may have been inadvertently painted during manufacturing. A painted surface could result in the brace bolts not retaining the correct torque and they could loosen. In the worst case, both center support bolts could come out completely and the front end propeller shaft could separate.

 

Sings that your vehicle may have a driveshaft problem include irregular sounds and / or vibrations coming from the propeller shaft area during vehicle operation.

 

Subaru dealers will replace the driveshaft assembly, including the center support brace. The recall population includes certain 2019 model year Ascent vehicles. The number of potentially affected is 166. Subaru's number for this recall is WUI-94 and the NHTSA campaign number is19V519.
