Lucid Air Inverter

Owners of certain 2024 and 2025 Lucid Air Rear-Wheel Drive vehicles should be aware of a newly identified defect that could result in a sudden loss of drive power while driving.

According to safety campaign 26V-309, Lucid has identified a problem affecting approximately 2,039 vehicles equipped with a Gen 4 inverter.

What Is the Problem?

The defect involves the vehicle's Gen 4 inverter, a critical component responsible for converting the battery's DC power into the AC power needed to operate the electric motor.

Over time, motor vibrations may cause movement between internal electrical contacts and circuit board components. This can create friction, known as fretting, which may damage electrical connections and eventually cause inverter failure.

Which Vehicles Are Affected?

  • 2024 Lucid Air Rear-Wheel Drive models
  • 2025 Lucid Air Rear-Wheel Drive models

Not all Lucid Air vehicles are included. The affected vehicles are specifically those equipped with a Gen 4 inverter.

Why Are Rear-Wheel Drive Models More Vulnerable?

Lucid Air Rear-Wheel Drive vehicles use a single Rear Drive Unit. Because there is only one drive unit, an inverter failure can result in a complete loss of motive power.

Safety Concerns

A sudden loss of drive power can occur without warning, increasing the risk of a collision. Steering and braking systems should remain functional, but the vehicle may be unable to accelerate or maintain speed.

Are There Any Warning Signs?

Some owners may receive a warning message before a failure occurs:

Drive System Fault

Lucid is developing enhanced detection software that may display a more persistent message:

Drive System Fault, Schedule Service Immediately.

Based on Lucid's analysis, drivers may receive warning notifications approximately 100 miles before a complete inverter failure occurs.

Lucid's Solution

Lucid will deploy an over-the-air software update to monitor inverter health and look for signs of impending failure.

If a problem is detected, Lucid will arrange for the inverter to be replaced at no cost to the owner.

What Owners Should Do

  • Watch for any Drive System Fault messages.
  • Install any available over-the-air software updates promptly.
  • Contact Lucid service if a warning message appears.
  • Monitor communications from Lucid regarding this safety campaign.

Owner notification letters are expected to be mailed beginning July 10, 2026.

Additional Information

  • NHTSA Campaign Number: 26V-309
  • Lucid Reference Number: SR-26-05-0
  • Vehicles Affected: Approximately 2,039
  • Manufacturer: Lucid USA, Inc.
  • Component Involved: Electrical System / Gen 4 Inverter

If you own a 2024 or 2025 Lucid Air Rear-Wheel Drive vehicle, staying current with software updates and paying attention to any drive system warnings can help reduce the risk associated with this inverter defect.
