Jeep Wrangler 4xe Unexpected Engine Shutdown

On 2022-12-05 05:47:08

Some 2021-2023 Jeep Wrangler 4xe vehicles equipped with 2.0L Plug-In Hybrid Electric Vehicle (PHEV) engines could experience and unexpected engine shut down. If the vehicle stops without warning, it could increase the risk of an accident.

According to the defect report, these PHEV vehicles could experience an engine shutdown condition caused by diagnostic reactions to faults caused by loss of communication. An engine shut down condition may result in an unexpected loss of motive power while driving, which can cause a vehicle to crash without warning.

The suspect period began on September 2, 2020, when the 2021 production began, and ended on August 17, 2022, when the 2023 production began with updated vehicle control software. The suspect period was determined using supplier and vehicle production records. Similar vehicles not included in the recall population are not equipped with the PHEV engine or were built after the suspect period.

Dealers will correct the problem by updating the transmission control module software. Owner notifications are expected to be mailed on January 12, 2023. LLC's number for this recall ZB7 and the NHTSA campaign number is 22V-865.

This is not the first recall for the 2023 Jeep Wrangler. In October, Chrysler (FCA US, LLC) recalled certain 2022-2023 Jeep Wrangler Plug-In Hybrid Electric (PHEV) vehicles because the high voltage (HV) battery pack assembly was built with incorrect fasteners to secure the 200-amp fuse. This incorrect fastener could cause a high resistance that could lead to excessive heat and failure of the fuse and loss of motive power.
