General Motors will be contacting the owners of certain 2019 Chevrolet Silverado 1500 and 2019 GMC Sierra 1500 trucks because these vehicles may fail to comply with the Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standards (FMVSS) for electronic stability control and vehicle braking.

According to the defect report, these trucks may have received a pre-launch version of the electronic brake control module (EBCM) software intended as a remedy for NHTSA recall 19V-889. This software has an error where, if the vehicle is started remotely using the Onstar mobile app or the driver enters the vehicle and waits five or more minutes before starting the vehicle using the ignition, the software could disable the electronic brake assist and illuminate the ECS, ABS and brake warning. If the driver is not aware that the ESC and ABS are not functioning it can increase the risk of a crash.

Owners reviving notices will be asked to return to their Chevrolet or GMC dealer to have the EBCM reprogrammed. GM's number for this recall is N192268091 and the NHTSA campaign number is 20V-055.
