Ford Motor Company will be recalling some 2019-2020 Transit Connect vehicles equipped with 2.5L engines because they are susceptible to overheating engines due to a powertrain control module (PCM) software calibration problem.

According to the defect report, the temperature threshold values in the fail safe cooling strategy calibration were higher than safe thresholds for the 2.5L engine. If the engine overheats, there will be a delay in the vehicle safe mode activation that could allow the engine temperature to exceed critical temperature limits. Running the engine at high temperatures for prolonged periods of time could result in engine damage and the risk of a fire.

Ford will contact owners with instructions to return to their dealers to have the PCM software updated. Ford's number for this recall is 20S60 and the NHTS campaign number is 20V-636 .
