An investigation into certain 2021 model year Volvo cars has identified a problem affecting the installation of the Supplementary Restraint System (SRS) control unit in certain vehicles. Some 2021 Volvo V60, V60CC, V90, V90CC, XC60 and XC90 vehicles may have SRS systems that may not respond as expected during an accident.
According to the defect report, the SRS control unit may have not been properly attached to the vehicle body. This means that the SRS unit could loose it's electrical ground and give inaccurate information regarding occupant protection such as airbags, seat belts and high voltage disconnect. If the SRS lamp is not illuminated prior to an accident, occupants will not be properly protected.
If the problem exists, the SRS system should detect a fault and illuminate the "Service Urgent" waning lamp.
Owners receiving notices will be instructed to return to their dealers to have the SRS control unit inspected and re-torqued. Volvo Car's number for this recall is R10068 and the NHTSA campaign number is 21V-001.
