Subaru of America, Inc. (Subaru) is recalling certain 2018 Legacy, Outback, and BRZ vehicles. In the affected vehicles, a software issue may cause the audio display system to not initialize, resulting in the camera display remaining blank. If this occurs, the rearview image will not display while backing up the vehicle. As a result, the vehicles fail to comply with requirements of Federal Motor Vehicle Safety (FMVSS) number 111, "Rearview Mirrors."

IMMEDIATELY TURNED AROUND AND WENT HOME. MY OBDII SCANNER SAID P014A ERROR. I RESET THE CODE. CALLED DEALER TO SEE IF IT WAS SAFE TO DRIVE AND DROP OFF (30 MILES AWAY) AND THEY SAID YES. THEY THEN SAID IF THEY CANNOT READ THE CODE THEY CANNOT DO ANYTHING ABOUT IT (BECAUSE I RESET IT AND IT IS NOT HISTORICALLY SAVED IN THE CAR). THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE INSPECTING THE VEHICLE, THE CONTACT BECAME AWARE OF A CRACK IN THE WINDSHIELD AT THE LOWER CORNER OF THE DRIVER'S SIDE WINDSHIELD. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE WINDSHIELD WAS CRACKED WITHOUT IMPACT. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT TAKEN TO BE DIAGNOSED NOR REPAIRED. THE CONTACT REFERENCED A CLASS ACTION LAWSUIT AGAINST THE MANUFACTURER REGARDING THE WINDSHIELD. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT MADE AWARE OF THE ISSUE. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 37,000.
