On August 29, 2019 Chrysler expanded the recall to include an additional 693,128 model year 2013-2014 Ram 1500, 2500 and 3500 pickup trucks. Chrysler (FCA US LLC) is recalling certain 2017-2018 RAM 1500, 2500, 3500, 3500 Cab Chassis, 4500 Cab Chassis, and 5500 Cab Chassis vehicles, all equipped with a column shifter. Pushing the brake pedal for prolonged periods when the vehicle is running and in PARK may cause the Brake Transmission Shift Interlock (BTSI) pin to stick in the open position. With the pin in the open position, the transmission can be shifted out of PARK into any gear without pushing the brake pedal or having the key in the ignition.

Potential Consequences:
The contact owns a 2017 Ram 1500. The contact stated that the ABS, traction control, and brake warning lights were displayed on the instrument panel. The contact added brake fluid to the brake fluid reservoir; however, the warning lights returned soon afterwards. The vehicle was then taken to the dealer where the braking system was serviced; however, the warning light returned after the repair. The vehicle was taken back to the dealer where a diagnostic test showed that the brake module was defective and needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure and the contact was provided a case number. The failure mileage was approximately 47,000.

We were involved in an accident and the air bags did not deploy. We were turning left and another vehicle went through a red light and hit my 2017 Dodge RAM 1500. The other vehicle was traveling at a high rate and and collided with the front of our truck. I'm very shocked that the airbags did not deploy.

Was driving down the interstate going around a curve and the service power steering message was displayed and lost power steering. Almost went into other lane of traffic almost causing an accident at 70mph. Was able to get vehicle to side of road. Turned off and back on then power steering worked. On the way home the power steering failed again almost causing another wreck. Turned truck off and back on and worked again. This almost caused me to wreck 2 times in one day. The warning message displayed at the exact timing that power steering was lost so no advanced warning of any issues. Code states that there is a software problem with the EPS unit. 2015-2016 Rams had a recall for the exact same issue that I'm having with my 2017 currently. This is a tremendous safety issue and could cost people their lives if not corrected soon!!

The contact stated while driving 35-40 MPH and hauling a trailer, the track bar fractured, causing the contact to lose control of the vehicle, and the vehicle veered into the passing lane, causing the trailer to swerve from side to side. The contact stated that upon shifting to neutral(N), the vehicle decelerated and stopped. The contact was able to drive to the residence at 15 MPH. The vehicle was taken to the Chrysler dealer however, no assistance was provided. The vehicle was then taken to a Chevrolet dealer, where an alignment was performed. The contact was later replaced with the track bar. The vehicle was repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure and informed the contact that assistance could not be provided because the vehicle was out of warranty. The failure mileage was approximately 157,000.

Rack and Pinion failed on me at 99k miles. I just got done with my workout and went to go start up the truck and the service power steering message came on with the power steering indicator light. That wheel would hardly move when I tried to move. I also decided to look under the truck and under the hood for any leaks and nothing and then soon realized after doing a quick google search that the 2013 and up models are electric power assist instead of hydraulic. The truck was towed next day to the dealer and they quoted $3600 to replace the rack and pinion.

Air suspension stopped working. Rear driver side drops with out noticed at anytime while parked or driving. My safety concern is that it will drop low enough while driving on the highway and cause for my truck to roll over. I have read about others having the same issues with the air suspension in the front, back or both. I was going to take it to the dealership but reading online from different souses and other that have the same problems the dealer had not fully fix the problem. Am not in the position to leave my vehicle in the services department of the dealership for then not to fix the problem.

The EGR valve and EGR cooler went out and it caused the MAP sensor to melt and also caused the intake manifold to melt and if I didn’t shut the truck off it was going to catch on fire. And this truck has had this problem in the past due to a recall and it was repaired and it happened again on may 4th 2025

Potential Consequences:
I am reporting a recurring and well-documented issue involving broken exhaust manifold bolts on my 2017 Ram 1500 with the 5.7L HEMI engine. My truck has only 47,000 miles, and the driver-side manifold has already required repair once due to broken bolts. Now, I am again hearing ticking noises and suspect further bolt failures and the passenger side , indicating this issue is not isolated but chronic and systemic. Thousands of other owners across Ram forums and communities have experienced the same failure, especially in Ram 1500s from 2009 to 2018 equipped with the 5.7L HEMI. The failures are typically caused by thermal expansion and contraction, which leads to the exhaust bolts snapping, particularly the rear ones. This results in exhaust leaks, increased emissions, and potential long-term engine damage. Despite the known and widespread nature of this defect, there has been no recall or extended warranty coverage from the manufacturer. Owners are frequently forced to cover expensive repairs (over $1,000) for what is clearly a design or material defect that occurs well below typical component lifespans. I respectfully request that the NHTSA investigate this issue and consider initiating a recall or mandatory service campaign. A critical engine component failing at such low mileage, and more than once, should not be dismissed as normal wear and tear.

Potential Consequences:
The diesel EGR Cooling System prematurely failed on a vehicle with low mileage and repaired at owner's expense. This defect allows pre-heated, vaporized coolant into the EGR system while the engine is running. In certain circumstances, this mixture interacts with other hydrocarbons and air in the system, potentially resulting in combustion within the intake manifold, which may lead to a vehicle fire. A vehicle fire may increase the risk of injury to occupants and persons outside of the vehicle, as well as property damage. Other than noting black residue in the coolant reservoir, there is no warning or notification to the owner that this dangerous condition had occurred, and that their safety may be at risk if not monitored. Previous model years had this same defect and are covered by Safety Recall VB1 / NHTSA 19V-757 Diesel EGR Cooler.
