The contact stated that the passenger's side exhaust manifold bolts had fractured, and the passenger's side exhaust manifold, the gasket, and the bolts were replaced by the dealer; however, the failure recurred on the driver's side exhaust manifold. Additionally, the contact stated while driving 35-65 MPH, the vehicle shuddered while depressing the accelerator pedal. There was no warning light illuminated. The contact was able to continue driving. The contact stated that the failure had been a recurring failure while driving. The vehicle was taken to several independent mechanics and transmission repair shops, where it was diagnosed that the torque converter had failed and was separating inside the casing. The dealer was notified of the failure and informed the contact that he would be charged a fee for the repair. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The contact was awaiting a call back from the manufacturer. The failure mileage was approximately 110,000.

ENGINE

Potential Consequences:

As many have mentioned already. I have had to have the passenger side exhaust manifold bolts replaced along with manifold due to heat warpage. Now at 88k the ticking from exhaust leak has returned. The same bolts have broken and dealer is now telling me that I have to replace the head due to the bolt not being able to be extracted. I feel as if the customer shouldn't be responsible for this known issue after purchasing an 60K truck at the time in 2017. 2 issue all with less than 90K and truck is not abused.

ENGINE

Potential Consequences:

I purchased my truck used in November 2022. After I purchased the vehicle, about a day or two later my wife said she continues to heat a ticking sound coming from the engine bay area while idling. I started the vehicle up and heard the exact same sound. I subsequently took it to my mechanic for a diagnostic test and he said my truck and many many more come to him with the same problem and it is very common. The problem was defective exhaust manifold bolts that break off prematurely into the engine block leaving owners with a costly repair of $1200 or more depending on how many bolts are broken, if one side or both sides are damaged, and the difficulty of the repair. I had broken bolts on both sides of the engine. The manufacturer knew about this issue and failed to conduct a recall. My truck also failed the emissions test. Now Ram is preparing to discontinue the Hemi engine and replace it with the 6 cylinder Hurricane engines in future Ram light trucks.

SUSPENSION

Potential Consequences:

While hard accelerating from a stop light and towing a moderately loaded trailer (~ 3,000 lbs), I felt the turbo engage and heard a loud bang and felt the rear end get wobbly. The truck pulled violently to the right and I instantly lost accelaration and heard something dragging on the concrete, I coasted into the left turn lane and got out to find my driveshaft had broke at the rear differential yoke and was resting on the ground, still attached to the transfer case. I hopped back in and put it in 4wd to power the front tires to limp to a safe location about 100 yards down the road. Upon closer inspection both upper control arm ends that attached to a frame via a bushing broke causing the differential to rotate to the point the rear u-joint yoke broke off the drive shaft. I called a dealer but the repair time was > 1month so I repaired it myself by replacing both control arms (with Moog aftermarket arms) and a new Mopar drive shaft. Upon closer inspection both control arm ends had poor weld quality (poor weld fusion) where the bushing loop attaches to the control arm shaft. They should not have failed given the normal driving and the low miles on the vehicle. This is definitely a manufacturers defect that could have caused a serious accident had the loss of control caused the vehicle to swerved into oncoming traffic. I still have the defective part if needed for closer inspection/testing. This incident was shared with FCA recalls but was not covered nor were they interested in the issue. I also have pictures on my phone that would upload properly but i could send in an email...

FUEL/PROPULSION SYSTEM

Potential Consequences:

While driving home from school with my wife and kids, my vehicle died in the highway at about 55 mph. I almost got rear ended by the vehicle behind me. I was lucky to roll it out to the side of the road without getting in a accident. Had the vehicle towed to a mechanic shop and was informed that the cp4 pump had failed and the whole fuel system was contaminated. I bough the truck 8 months ago, and still owe over 25 thousand dollars on it. This is my daily driver. I can’t afford paying for a broken vehicle. Had to borrow a car from family temporarily to use for everything. I don’t know where to get help with this case. Please help.

Potential Consequences:

Driving approx. 45 mph when truck lost acceleration. Truck began making clanking sound and check engine light came on and electronic throttle control light. Almost got into an accident due to someone almost rear ending me and then had to coast into a parking lot when I lost total control of all steering and almost hit a parked car. Truck would not restart, had to call for a tow back home that was 150+ miles because no dealerships close by would accept vehicle or had availability. Truck taken to local Dodge dealership and diagnosed with high pressure fuel pump failure and the eta for parts for a fix are unknown at the time. Have been without a truck or car for 2 weeks now, have 4 kids and both me and my wife work full time and now only have 1 car to get around in because the truck had to be diagnosed first before a rental could be granted, if they even give me one. Still waiting to hear back about getting a rental and been 2 weeks without a truck.
