Recall Date: Dec 20, 2017
Safety Issue:

Chrysler (FCA US LLC) is recalling certain 2016-2017 Ram 3500 Cab Chassis with a Gross Vehicle Weight Rating (GVWR) of less than 10,000 lbs, 2011-2017 Ram 3500, 4500 and 5500 Cab Chassis vehicles, 2009-2017 Ram 1500 and 2010-2017 Ram 2500 and 3500 pickup trucks, all equipped with a column shifter. With the pin in the open position, the transmission can be shifted out of PARK into any gear without pushing the brake pedal or having the key in the ignition.

Potential Risk:
Being able to shift the transmission without pushing the brake pedal and/or without a key in the ignition can increase the risk of an unintended vehicle rollaway that may result in personal injury or a crash.

Potential Consequences:

WHEN I AM APPROACHING A RED LIGHT OR STOP SIGN, I APPLY PRESSURE TO THE BRAKES. AS THE VEHICLE IS COMING TO A STOP, IT SOMETIMES LUNGES FORWARD UNEXPECTEDLY AS IF I HAVE BEEN REAR-ENDED BY ANOTHER VEHICLE. THE VEHICLE IS STILL UNDER WARRANTY. I HAVE TAKEN IT TO TWO SEPARATE DEALERSHIPS FOR THIS HAZARDOUS CONDITION. BOTH TIMES THEY ACKNOWLEDGED THE PROBLEM EXISTS. BOTH TIMES THEY UPDATED THE COMPUTER AND CLAIMED IT WAS FIXED. BOTH TIMES THEY WERE WRONG. THE VEHICLE STILL LUNGES FORWARD OCCASIONALLY WHEN COMING TO A STOP. I SPOKE TO THE COMPANY'S CUSTOMER CARE REPRESENTATIVE. THEY TOLD ME TO TAKE IT TO THE DEALERSHIP AND HAVE THEM CHECK IT A THIRD TIME. I HAVE NO FAITH IN THE DEALERSHIP AFTER TWICE TAKING IT IN WITH NO RESOLUTION. IT ALSO COSTS ME TIME AND MONEY TO TAKE IT TO THE DEALERSHIP JUST TO HAVE THEM TELL ME THE PROBLEM IS FIXED WHEN IT IS NOT. MY WARRANTY WILL EXPIRE SOON, AND I BELIEVE THEY ARE JUST TRYING TO RUN OUT THE CLOCK. IN ADDITION TO THE DANGER THAT THIS PLACES MY FAMILY IN, IT WILL ALSO CAUSE EXPENSIVE PARTS TO NEED REPLACEMENT PREMATURELY. I JUST WANT A SAFE VEHICLE TO DRIVE THAT IS MADE BY A COMPANY THAT WILL HONOR ITS WARRANTY.

ENGINE

Potential Consequences:

TOTAL ENGINE FAILURE. CHRYSLER IN PROCESS OF REPLACING ENGINE THAT WAS REPAIRED AT 1OI MILES FOR THE SAME PROBLEM. TRANSMISSION HAS STUCK IN EITHER 3RD OR 5TH GEAR AND WOULD NOT DOWNSHIFT OR UPSHIFT - SECOND TIME THE TRANSMISSION HAS DONE THIS. HAVE A VIDEO PROVING SHIFTING FAULTS. IN BOTH INSTANCES, THE VEHICLE WAS EITHER IDLING OR IN MOTION FOR THE ENGINE FAILURES AND WAS IN MOTION IN BOTH INSTANCES WHEN WITH THE TRANSMISSION FAILURE. SEVERAL DEALER RECALLS HAVE BEEN MADE ON THE VEHICLE THAT DID NOT INVOLVE EITHER OF THE ABOVE. WINDOW CLIPS HAVE BEEN REPLACED FOR DRIVER SIDE FRONT WINDOW SEVERAL TIMES BECAUSE THEY EITHER BREAK OR COME OFF AND HAVE TO BE REPAIRED WITH NEW CLIPS EACH TIME. IF THEY ARE NOT REPLACED, THERE IS A RISK THAT THE WINDOW WILL CRASH INSIDE THE DOOR IF ATTEMPT IS MADE TO ROLL DOWN OR ROLL UP THE POWER WINDOW. VEHICLE IS CURRENTLY IN THE DEALERSHIP SHOP FOR ENGINE REPLACEMENT; DOCUMENTATION IS NOT YET AVAILABLE FOR THIS INSTANCE BUT CAN BE PROVIDED WHEN IT BECOMES AVAILABLE.

MY SON HAD A 2016 RAM 1500 AND WAS IN A HEAD ON COLLISION DRIVING APPROX 40 MPH. THANKFULLY HE WAS OKAY. I SAW THE REPORT THIS EVENING ABOUT NEW AIR BAG RECALLS AND WANT YOU TO KNOW HIS AIRBAGS DID NOT INFLATE WHEN HE CRASHED. NEEDLESS TO SAY WE WERE SHOCKED. I QUESTIONED STATE FARM, THE PALM BEACH COUNTY SHERIFFS OFFICE AND THE STATE FARM BODY SHOP. MY QUESTION TO ALL OF THEM WAS WHO WOULD BRING THIS ISSUE TO THE PROPER GOV'T AUTHORITIES. THE VEHICLE WAS TOTALED SO I NO LONGER HAVE THE VIN. I AM SURE WE CAN GET THE VIN FROM STATE FARM. THE ACCIDENT WAS ONLY A FEW MONTHS AGO, SO I AM SURE YOU CAN STILL GET YOUR HANDS ON THE VEHICLE. TO HAVE A VEHICLE 3 YEARS OLD AND 20K MILES, AND SAYING I HAVE TO ACCEPT THIS TRANSMISSION ISSUE IS UNACCEPTABLE. IF THIS IS HOW IT IS GOING TO BE, FCA WILL NOT BE GETTING ANY MORE OF MY BUSINESS.

THE EVIC (ELECTRONIC VEHICLE INFORMATION CENTER) SWITCHES DO NOT WORK SO I CANNOT SEE SAFETY RELATED ISSUES DISPLAYED ON THE INSTRUMENT PANEL. LIGHTS ON CRUISE SWITCH AND ELECTRONIC GEAR SHIFT DO NOT ILLUMINATE NOR DOES THE EVIC CONTROL BUTTONS LOCATED ON THE LEFT AND RIGHT SIDE OF STEERING WHEEL . I WAS DRIVING AT NIGHT AND WHILE TRYING TO SET THE CRUISE CONTROL, BECAUSE THE LIGHTS WON'T ILLUMINATE I HIT THE GEAR DOWN BUTTON AND DOWNSHIFTED TO 1ST ON THE HIGHWAY WHILE DOING ABOUT 55MPH ALMOST CAUSING A ACCIDENT. FROM RESEARCH I'VE DONE ONLINE I BELIEVE IT MAY HAVE A BAD CLOCKSPRING AS OTHER OWNERS HAVE HAD THE SAME ISSUE ON THE SAME AND SIMILAR YEAR MODELS

Defect Description:

FUEL/PROPULSION SYSTEM

Potential Consequences:

TRUCK HAS 25,200 MILES ON IT AND HAS FUEL SENSOR FAILURE ALARM. AFTER READING SOME INFORMATION WITH OTHER OWNERS, THEY ALL HAVE THE SAME PROBLEM WITH THEIR RAM PICKUP. EVIDENTLY THIS HAPPENS ANYWHERE FROM 5,000 MILES AND UP. IT IS A $1000 REPAIR WHEN NOT UNDER WARRANTY. I BELIEVE THIS SHOULD BE A RECALL ITEM COVERED AFTER THE WARRANTY EXPIRES. SOME PEOPLE HAD THE REPAIR 2 OR MORE TIMES. I WAS DRIVING UP THE ROAD WHEN THE FUEL GAUGE SAID EMPTY AND IT'S FULL
