STEERING

Potential Consequences:

While driving on an interstate at approximately 65 mph, i crossed a bridge. When i ran over the expansion joint the steering wheel started violently shaking in my hands. It continued until i slowed down to a near stop and then was fine. On the same trip, it did this several times. When I took the jeep to a local dealer, they told me the steering damper (original to the vehicle) was defective. I helps them replace it and so far have not experienced the problem. This is a serious issue that needs to be addressed. Nearly losing control of a vehicle at 65 mph or more, with traffic all around, is extremely dangerous, as is trying to come to a stop as quickly as possible when surrounded by other vehicles that are going just as fast. I found many reports of similar issues with previous models of jeeps online but obviously their solution did not adequately address the problem.

ELECTRICAL SYSTEM

Potential Consequences:

The vehicle’s check engine light come on earlier this year and the electric motor/battery was not functioning properly. It was serviced in September and I was told by the dealership that the software update would resolve the issue. It did not. The vehicle was serviced again on 12/13/24 and I was told that it passed the 95B recall test but that the check engine light came back on. The dealership said they ran more tests and now the electric cooling/heating unit needs to be replaced but they won’t have the part for approximately 2 weeks. The electric cooling/heating unit is for controlling climate within the vehicle and should not affect its propulsion. While driving the vehicle the day after I picked it up from the dealership, I was nearly involved in what would’ve been a serious accident. I was turning at an intersection, but the vehicle lost motor function and would not accelerate, leaving me sitting in the intersection with traffic oncoming. Fortunately, after several seconds, the vehicle began to move with not much time to spare. This problem recurred throughout my drive returning home. I have not and will not drive the vehicle again until I am able to return to the dealership for a third time.

Defect Description:

FUEL/PROPULSION SYSTEM

With only 10,000 miles on the Jeep wrangler vehicle, we are experiencing the death wobble. We contacted Jeep and they advised us this was not covered under our warranty any longer since past 3 years. We had the dealership request reconsideration on our behalf since this is a known issue and they agreed to pay for 60% of the repair, however They should be liable for all of it since this is an ongoing issue with their vehicles specifically the 2021 year. Please assist us with getting this actually recalled and get reimbursement.

I'm reading online this is a common problem with this jeep as described as (Death Wobble) A certified mechanic looked at my jeep and found that I have loose tie rod ends and my drag link is loose? My question is with an almost new jeep with not many miles on it is there a recall out with this issue? Seems so many other jeep owners are empiercing the same problem? What can I do to correct this? Potential Consequences:

I have had 2 separate incidents with this tow bar system. Both resulted in catastrophic failure of the equipment. In Oct. 2024 while traveling in Atlanta Ga. a retaining pin came out of the tow bar on one side and resulted in the tow vehicle becoming uncontrollable. I convinced myself this was operator error. Since then, I replaced the damaged tow bar with the equivalent tow bar from Etrailer. Again on Fri [XXX] the same thing happened again with a lost pin resulting in uncontrollable vehicle while travelling through Shreveport La. I firmly believe that this tow bar system has some design flaws that allows the retaining pins to dislodge while experiencing rough road conditions. This system is designed to flat tow a vehicle behind an RV. The RV in question is a 2024 Jayco Seneca rated to tow up to 10,000lbs. The vehicle being towed is a 2021 Jeep Wrangler with an estimated weight of 4,500lbs. The tow bar system mentioned above is rated up to 6,000lbs. I have contacted Etrailer and they have offered a refund. I think this system needs to be reevaluated for its safety designs. STEERING

Potential Consequences:

I was traveling at 55 mph on 4 lane highway and hit a bumo in the road. The vehicle began to shake to a point where it was nearly uncontrollable. I was able to get to the side of the road and stop. I then drove slowly and the shaking stopped. This was on a 2021 Jeep Wrangler. Further investigation indicated that this is a WIDE SPREAD problem with Jeep Wranglers. I have taken the vehicle to the local Jeep dealer who verified it the DEATH WOBBLE. It apparently is due to a malfunctioning steering damper. I have instructed the dealer to repair but they have indicated that there is no reimbursement for this problem despite its common occurrence on Jeep Wranglers

ENGINE

Potential Consequences:

I have a 2021 Jeep Wrangler JL--VIN [XXX] . On Wednesday, [XXX], the vehicle suddenly and without prior warning overheated. I immediately parked the car. There were no obvious signs of leaks but we went and got some coolant and I put about 1/4 gallon of coolant in as it was low. I had the car towed to the dealership. The service advisor informed me that the issue was related to TSB 07-001-22 REV. B. They had to tighten the bolts connecting the inlet tube. As I searched on some Jeep Forums, I discovered that this issue was addressed with CSN ZD8, however, it's only applicable to certain VINs within 2021-2022. When I mentioned this to the advisor, she said my car wasn't affected by the recall. Clearly, this is a broader issue than just the VINs noted in the recall since this exact issue happened to my vehicle. I reached out to FCA and was assigned a case manager. After speaking with her, she informed me that she just talked with the dealership possibly providing cost assistance with the matter. I don't know why they're putting it back on the dealership when it's clearly a manufacturing defect. The dealership covered about 1/2 of the cost. INFORMATION REDACTED PURSUANT TO THE FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 552(B)(6)

Corrective Action:

SERVICE BRAKES

Potential Consequences:

I was traveling on the [XXX] on Sunday [XXX] and while started smelling brakes and I got off at the service area and pressed on the brake pedal and the vehicle wouldn’t stop. I had no brake pedal and just heard a clicking sound. There were people everywhere and I didn’t want anyone to get hurt so I had no choice but to drive the vehicle towards a yellow pole which did stop the vehicle but I have been told after the car was towed to a shop that there is an error code B22A9 and believe it was caused by some ecu failure of some sort. The vehicle is in really bad shape and airbags also didn’t deploy. I would like this to be investigated as I would not feel safe in this vehicle if it’s repaired and returned to service. It is a 2021 Jeep Wrangler 4xe and I am aware of issues being reported with the battery but nothing for this problem except for other mentions on the internet on owners having similar problems intermittently. The jeep will be towed to Pohanka Jeep in Salisbury Md. There wasn’t any warning lights. I give permission for the vehicle to be inspected at anytime. I feel this vehicle is a danger to the public safety being it was just serviced and inspected by a Jeep dealership 2 weeks prior and the brakes suddenly fall and now there’s a code with something to do with an ecu or electronics having to do with the brakes failing. Could have been killed in the accident or seriously hurt if I hadn’t exited off the road and used the pole to stop the vehicle.
