Safety Issue:

Chrysler (FCA US, LLC) is recalling certain 2018-2024 Jeep Wrangler vehicles. UNKNOWN OR OTHER

Potential Consequences:

After picking up the 2021 Jeep Wrangler Rubicon 4xe from the dealership for repairs to the rotors and struts and bearings, the Wrangler was running roughly. Before I was halfway home, I called the dealer back to explain the engine was running roughly, wasn't able to get over 40mph, and was acting as if it was going to stall or lose power. I stated I needed to bring it back because I wasn't going to be able to drive it like this. Before I got halfway back to the dealership, the Wrangler lost power and was making a noise as if it was going to blow up. I was barely able to get it off the side of the road and narrowly missed a rearend collision from the vehicle behind me. I was on a dark, heavily traveled two lane road during evening work traffic hours. Dealership did send a tow truck. This occurred late October of 2024. The vehicle is still at the dealership and is still not repaired or running as of today 4/25/25 although the dealer says they are working to locate the exact problem. The dealership state after initially suspecting the e-battery, it is an electrical problem but are unable to locate the exact location of the electrical problem. The dealership stated they have opened a ticket with Stellantis and that Stellantis sent a technician to examine the vehicle and determined that is indeed an electrical issue but did not know where the problem was or how to repair. It appears that the Wrangler is not repairable, and it is still under the manufactures warranty of 3 years/36,000. I have included service invoices that show there were 2 other incidents where the Wrangler would not start. In one other incident, the vehicle had to be towed to the dealership. Just before the vehicle lost power, multiple warning lights began lighting up the dashboard, including (believe it or not) a turtle. I am uncertain as to what else came up, it was cold, dark and I was on a heavily traveled road during work traffic hours. A Sheriff's Department deputy did respond to my location.

Potential Consequences:

I was driving off the lot entering the interstate when the steering started wobbling and pulling upon accelerating and likely hitting a bump. Took back to dealership and 2 mechanics drove it and one with me in which nothing really happened compared to the surprising first incident. They are not a Jeep dealership but reassured me all normal for Jeep but will do whatever it takes to make right. Could ask them to replace damper or tracking rod but what if not the problem. I have 2 weeks to decide what to do. Otherwise it has been great but I know there was a recall on certain jeeps “death wobbles” it was certainly scary.

Defect Description:

UNKNOWN OR OTHER

Potential Consequences:

Since purchasing my 2021 Jeep Wrangler Rubicon, the vehicle’s radio system has been defective, creating a significant safety hazard. The original radio (Radio 1) had a short that drained the battery and was replaced by a dealer. The replacement radio (Radio 2) has never functioned properly: the Bluetooth system fails to stay paired, requiring manual re-pairing every time the vehicle is started. Multiple software updates have been attempted, but the issue persists unchanged. This defect prevents reliable hands-free phone operation, which is critical for safe driving. My wife uses this vehicle daily to transport our children to school, and the lack of a functional hands-free system forces her to either forgo phone use entirely or risk distracted driving, violating Georgia’s hands-free law (O.C.G.A. § 40-6-241), which prohibits holding a phone while driving. This malfunction endangers my family and other road users, as it compromises the driver’s ability to communicate safely in emergencies or navigate without distraction. Repair History: * Initial Defect: Radio 1 shorted and drained the battery; replaced with Radio 2 (date unknown, within first year of ownership). * Ongoing Issue: Radio 2’s Bluetooth has required re-pairing every drive since installation, despite multiple dealer visits and software updates. * Recent Action: Dropped off vehicle on April 11, 2025, at Rick Hendrick Duluth (mileage: 48,177). Dealer staff (Heather Kratky and Matt Otis) stated Jeep has not authorized a fix and considers the issue unresolvable, leaving the defect unaddressed. * Mopar Escalation: Escalated to Mopar. Safety Impact: The persistent Bluetooth failure eliminates hands-free capability, a standard safety feature in modern vehicles. This defect directly contributes to distracted driving risks, particularly in a family vehicle used for school transportation.

STEERING

Potential Consequences:

Extreme steering wobble at speeds over 65 mph when hitting bumps on the highway. First time was with about 20,000 miles didn’t not know what it was, and it stopped after slowing down. After more times this happened I want to the dealer my warranty was expired and the want to replace the steering stabilizer to start. This problem now happens about every 5 miles on the highway and I fear losing control so I don’t drive over 65 mph with this vehicle. What can be done to fix this

UNKNOWN OR OTHER

Potential Consequences:

On [XXX], I was in Fort Lauderdale, FL for vacation with my 2 friends. I was driving for about 20-30 minutes on the road, got on the highway and noticed a rubber smell. I got off the highway. I still noticed the smell did not go away. So I opened the windows & turned off the AC. Then I saw white smoke coming from the vents and smoke coming from the right side of the hood, in front of the passenger side. I proceeded to pull over and parked the car. We exit the car & saw smoke/flames coming from the right passenger side & underneath the car. I called 911. There were no warnings or indications on my dashboard that something was wrong. I got my car serviced a month prior to this fire at a certified Jeep dealership. My car was deemed a total loss by my insurance. This was completely a safety hazard to myself, two friends and the public. Luckily, there was a fire department just a few buildings down. They arrived shortly after the 911 call and put out the fire, preventing further damage to the surroundings. It was terrifying but thankfully we are all safe. POWER TRAIN

Potential Consequences:

Sudden loss of power. Vehicle completely lost response to accelerator pedal while driving: Had a very strange experience last night. I have been barely charging my 4xe after 95b recall trying to maybe slow down battery degradation and drive it like during the recall period. Last night I was going down a rural road. I rolled up to a 4 way stop slowing down from about 55mph to stop. Vehicle was in hybrid mode, and cluster was at <1%. I had barely stopped, I don’t think the ICE shut down. I tried to accelerate to clear the intersection and I had 0 power. Car would barely move and slowly rolled in the intersection. Engine was running but not responding to the accelerator with RPM increase, just like when you try to rev at idle. No response to half or full throttle. I just slowly rolled in the intersection (scary situation, luckily no heavy traffic) I turned my hazard lights on and tried again to accelerate, 0 response, no MIL light, still gas in car. I tried to change drive mode to electric, message “unavailable, battery depleted” (no surprise there), tried e-save no response to throttle either. Last resort I put tranny in park and re-cycled start/stop. HV battery had enough power to start engine and responded to throttle and I was back driving. Did another 10-15 miles yesterday, no wild issues (sometimes it feels a little jerky, but that could be just me now). I did some heavy accelerations. Power meter went to 100, re-charged on coasting and did that for 4 or 5 repetitions. No warning lights ever. Checked my SOH last night and it had dropped to 80.8%. I decided to charge on L1 outside. Didnt have full SOC this morning, just 75% on dash. Drove normal this moaning, stayed in electric mist of the time. My 75% was completely depleted after maybe 10 miles driving. All seems typical for a poor SOH HV battery, except the loss of power and 0 response to throttle. Very scary and potentially dangerous.

ELECTRICAL SYSTEM

Potential Consequences:

I have a 2021 Jeep Wrangler 4XE Rubicon. My vehicle has been recalled three times for updates. I have had one recall done for the defroster due to the faulty software that can cause reduced visibility increasing a risk of a crash. The second one was for risk of fire from a faulty high voltage battery driving or parked. The third recall call was to update software for the high voltage battery in which doing so caused my vehicle not to fully charge and to lose power when driving and not be able to start for hours at a time. I now have brought my vehicle back to the Jeep service center for a diagnostic test and it was found that the high voltage battery pack is faulty in which Jeep has said they will put a new battery in once approved from Chrysler. Jeep has not been able to be able to fix the problem with Hybrid battery packs possibly catching on fire or exploding and the new one I'd be getting would risk the same problems possibly injuring or killing myself or any passengers I might have in the vehicle. Jeep is not able to get to the root of the cause of why these high volt battery can go on fire even when they are not in use causing possible property damage to my home or neighbors. I am told in the recall to park my vehicle away from properties and other cars which is impossible to do. I hope you take this serious matter into consideration that Jeep Corporation must find a solution for this Nationwide problem and for people on the road.

Corrective Action:

Defect Description:

ELECTRICAL SYSTEM

Potential Consequences:

The jeep was taken to the dealership under a software battery recall and the software was updated. One week later while driving at approximately 55mph, there was a sudden jerk in the propulsion system. the car shifted abruptly from electric to gas motor and the electric mode was unavailable. The vehicle jerked and hesitated at every acceleration and deceleration causing unsafe operating conditions . The check engine light was on I returned it to the dealer immediately and was told that the high voltage hybrid battery was bad. I'm pretty convinced from my and other experiences that the software up date was not a remedy to previous incidents reported to you. It was a software patch that determined if the battery was bad.
