NHTSA Campaign: 25V083000 SAFETY RECALL
133 Vehicles Affected
Recall Date: Feb 13, 2025
Safety Issue:

Chrysler (FCA US, LLC) is recalling certain 2022 Jeep Grand Cherokee and 2021-2022 Jeep Grand Cherokee L vehicles. The center stack upper display (DCSD) contains a transistor that may overheat and prevent the rearview camera image from displaying. As such, these vehicles fail to comply with the requirements of Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard (FMVSS) number 111, "Rear Visibility."

Potential Risk:
A rearview image that does not display reduces the driver's visibility, increasing the risk of a crash.
FREE Recall Solution:
Dealers replaced the DCSD, free of charge. All affected vehicles have been repaired. Owner notification letters were mailed February 27, 2025. Owners may contact Chrysler customer service at 800-853-1403. Chrysler's number for this recall is 11C.

As such, these vehicles fail to comply with the requirements of Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard number 214, "Side Impact Protection."

Potential Risk:
An air bag that does not deploy during a crash increases the risk of injury.
FREE Recall Solution:

EXTERIOR LIGHTING

Potential Consequences:

High Beam Headlights not working on Auto mode. Was inches away from Hitting a deer due to the high beam headlights not working. This would have been a very serious accident and I had my toddler in the car with me..... Same vehicle models have a recall for this, Recall is --- NHTSA Recall 21V-797, also known as Recall Y66, involves Chrysler (FCA US, LLC) vehicles due to a potential issue with difficulty activating high beams. The recall was issued because the high beam activation mechanism may not function as required by Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard (FMVSS) No. 108 S9, potentially reducing visibility for drivers. The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) notified owners about this recall on October 28, 2021... Part Number - 68374988AA... Vehicle is 2021 Jeep Grand Cherokee L Laredo 4x4 3.6L V6..... Dealership service will not service this since there isn't a recall shown for my Jeep vin specifically. Even though there are identical models that have this recall. Jeep Dealership wants over $900 just to check and maybe service this issue..... This is a very serious issue. I have already scheduled an appointment on 7/18/2025 to have 3 other recalls fixed at this dealership and would like to ask for you to please have them service this issue as well since this is an oversight on the manufacturers end..... This high beam issue was caused by an oversight during vehicle programming, affecting "Body Controller Modules" with part number 68374988AA

ELECTRICAL SYSTEM

Potential Consequences:

I just discovered my IPC module is faulty and has been faulty. My vehicle has been putting itself into park while driving multiple times now in the little over 2 years I’ve had it. Along with many other electrical issues (power steering going out) engine not cutting off after putting it I to park and cutting the jeep off. Dash going out. Biggest issue is my vehicle causing me near miss traffic accidents. The dealership it was purchased from, certified. Hid service history reports at the sale. Also returned this vehicle multiple times without acknowledging the issue or even telling me they didn’t repair the issue. Last time it was picked up from Matt Bowers Jeep in Baton Rouge within 30 mins the issue was happening and more (rpms shooting up and Jeep taking off without giving it gas). I went public and another dealership reached out to help me. Within a few hours they noted that the vast majority of my modules weren’t updated, some bad and the IPC module keeps failing. They’re working with Stellantis trying to troubleshoot the issue. This has never been made known by Matt Bowers and matches the original service records hidden from day one. I cant get my vehicle back while the IPC module is faulty because it’s a serious safety hazard. Matt Bowers has put me back I to This vehicle multiple times knowing it was a hazard and I even Stated I felt unsafe in this Jeep. This is a serious safety hazard!!! Mopar was also made aware and has never returned any messages.

ELECTRICAL SYSTEM

Potential Consequences:

Randomly, and without warning, the instruments, gauges, and displays will switch into a language I do not speak or understand (Italian). Coinciding with the switch to Italian language, cluster and radio display settings revert back to default settings, auto door locks and paddle shifter becomes inoperative (with no menu to enable), pedestrian emergency brake (peb) lamp or forward collision warning (fcw) lamp turns on with no way to disable, units of measurement including speed, temperature, etc. all change, and many other random settings change as well. ***This is clearly a dangerous situation because of all the functions and gauges that change, and the fact it is difficult if not impossible to recover from this due to the language of the setting menus, and the complexity of discovering and navigating through all these changes. I have taken it to the dealer twice, and they say there is nothing they can do and to wait for a possible software update, but none has come and it has been over a year. When this happens, even if one is able to wade through all the settings menus and change setting back, some items cannot be reset (like the FCA off lamp). According to various Jeep owner forums, some dealers have been able to reset something and temporarily correct the issue, but they charge for this service, and the issue returns randomly again. Here is an example forum discussion, indicating many if not all vehicles are affected: [XXX] Many people on the forum believe this issue did not start until a software update a year or so ago. This is a well known and widespread problem, and there is even a DOT Bulletin on the issue: dot.report Bulletins Because this is dangerous (for settings/gauges/units to no longer be useful while driving), and it occurs randomly, I strongly believe this issue should be a manufacturer recall. I am available for any needs." INFORMATION REDACTED PURSUANT TO THE FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 552(B)(6)

ENGINE

Potential Consequences:

2021 Jeep Grand Cherokee L. I was idling at a light, which means the engine had auto-shut off. The light turned green and I stepped on the accelerator. Car kicked back on like normal and I got back up to speed ~45 mph. So now I'm about 1/4 mile past the light and I hear the engine kick off and lost all acceleration (everything else was normal). Warning popped up on the dash that "vehicle is not in park". I put on my hazards, braked to a stop, put the vehicle in park (nothing happened), hit the push button to turn the vehicle off, waited 2 seconds, hit the button again to turn it back on. It restarted.

ELECTRICAL SYSTEM

Potential Consequences:

My vehicle was experiencing the exact same HVAC/AC issues described in Customer Satisfaction Notification Z33 for the 2021 Jeep Grand Cherokee L. Although the campaign specifically lists my make, model, and year, Stellantis claims my VIN is not covered. I was forced to pay $175 for the same repair listed in the Z33 document (HVAC module flash, Labor Code 18-Z3-31-82), and this should have been covered. Stellantis is refusing reimbursement even though the issue and fix are identical.

FUEL/PROPULSION SYSTEM

Potential Consequences:

My Jeep over the last year has automatically put itself into park while I’m driving down the highway! I’ve had near miss accidents due to this. No warning lights, no signs something is wrong. It just either slams itself into park and locks up, then won’t turn off. The last times without warning my engine shuts off, my screen pops up saying put into park to start engine and the vehicle puts itself into park automatically. It’s happens fast to! I was swerved by other drivers each time. Jeep will do NOTHING about this! My power steering goes out randomly also. This has happened more than once since the end of 2023! I’m now scared to drive it.

ENGINE

Potential Consequences:

Presented as camshaft position sensor with loss of power, poor acceleration and general misfires. After many weeks of diagnostic and repairs, turns out to be a problem with the camshaft intake. Specifically the entire cam kit. Appeared 1 week after purchase as a check engine light. This problem had been confirmed by the chrysler dealership where I bought the car and sent it for diagnostic. Problem with the cam could result in sudden loss of power while driving/and or limp mode. Damage to transmission and other parts such as timing chain. I do not have any invoices, however this vehicle was in for service at greenwood auto in cortland ohio for a week before being transferred to Mig chryler in bellafontaine ohio where it was bought for service. Currently no invoice for the repair because the parts are not available due to high amount of demand for this specific problem. My jeep has now been in the shop for 4 weeks with no timeframe for parts.
