ELECTRICAL SYSTEM

Potential Consequences:

Whenever the oil level gets below 50%, the car stalls when the engine isn’t warm enough usually 5-10 minutes after turning on. If attempting to turn the car stalls and the engine shuts off and steering wheel locks up. Have happened to me 16 different times. The worst occasion is when I was on the high way going 80 MPH and there was a slight turn. While turning the car stalled and steering wheel locked up. I had to brake and went onto the shoulder and luckily stopped before hitting the guard rail. Took to Jeep dealership multiple times and they just said to get a quart of oil and put it in to avoid this. Apparently only for 2.4L engines. Have had only one option to fix the problem, get an entire new engine on my dime.

Defect Description:

SERVICE BRAKES

Potential Consequences:

Vehicle is a 2019 Jeep Cherokee Trailhawk with approx. 23k miles as of 4/28. A NH state inspection failed on 4/28/22 at 3 PM due to front rotors being "very delaminated and pitted" and front brake pads wearing unevenly as a result of the rotor delamination. In the months prior to inspection, stop time/distance was noticeably increased, and light pulsing could be felt when coming to a stop. An appointment to replace the rotors and brakes was made for 4/29/22 at 10 AM. Approximately 1 hour after the inspection, the vehicles in front of me came to an abrupt stop due to an intersection ahead. I was not able to stop in time and hit the vehicle in front of me, which was at a stop. That vehicle then lurched forward and hit the vehicle in front of it. After impact, the front upper and lower airbags deployed very slowly, but did not fully inflate. The radiator cracked as a result of the collision, as coolant began leaking from the vehicle and the vehicle began to smoke prior to me turning it off. There was extensive damage to the lower front bumper and hood, as well as mild damage to the quarter panels. Further damage is unknown at this time, as the vehicle was towed and is being assessed for repairs. No other persons involved in the crash were injured. I have sustained very mild bruising of my left knee from the steering column, soreness in the back of my neck and upper back, soreness in my right hip, and a very mild chemical burn in my throat (presumably from the airbag powder).

Additional Notes:

The touchscreen, which controls all the electronics, nav, climate, radio, phone, etc...has been going bezerk, changing all the settings without being touched. At times, while driving forward, the backup camera has come on. The radio stations will change without notice, screen settings and options pop up. I think you are starting to get it. Once, it dialed someone 27 times back to back while the vehicle was being used. Many instances of this on web forums It is absurd, distracting to the driver, and dangerous. Incident happens multiple times - using todays date.

WHEELS:LUGS/NUTS/BOLTS/STUDS

Potential Consequences:

The contact owns a 2019 Jeep Cherokee. The contact stated that on two separate occasions, he experienced a failure with the removal of the original lug nuts placed on all four wheels. The first failure occurred when he had taken the vehicle to an independent mechanic for a tire rotation. The contact was informed by the mechanic that several lug nuts had to be broken off since the lug nuts would not unscrew after multiple attempts. The second failure occurred while the contact was on vacation and the front passenger’s side tire had run flat. The contact stated that the wrench that came equipped with the vehicle could not unscrew the bolts on the flat tire. The contact sought outside assistance to remove the passenger’s side lug nuts. The contact stated that the lug nuts presented a great danger and could leave a motorist stranded in the event of an emergency. The dealer and the manufacturer were notified of the failure but offered no assistance. The contact replaced all the lug nuts. The failure mileage was 0.
