Defect Description:
POWER TRAIN
Potential Consequences:
Transmission needs to be replaced at 33,000 miles on the vehicle. While driving on a major expressway I experienced harsh up shifts from gears 1-2 & 2-3. It felt like the vehicle was being rear-ended. The vehicle died out and check engine light went on. Vehicle restarted and seemed to go back to normal for the rest of the drive. Vehicle was inspected at 2 Jeep dealers recommending new transmission and all related gaskets & Hardware. No warmings of any kind happened prior to this incident. Apparently there was a recall for this exact problem on the 2019 Jeep Cherokee yet my VIN number is not included. Recall: 2019 model year (KL) Jeep® Cherokee vehicles equipped with a 948TE 9-speed transmission. NHTSA Campaign Number: 18V-492

The old battery died and auto zone installed a new one. The AAA tech that jumped me told me that the computer would be weird?? A safety hazard is when I put in reverse the back camera doesn’t go on?? So if I don’t look or don’t hear anything then there could be an accident?? Also the tire pressure on the console doesn’t work?? If I had a flat while driving it would not tell me how low my psi is on the tire?? I could have an accident?? Also the acceleration I think is slower due to the computer error that tells me to service shifter?? I just had a new battery installed and should not have these issues due to jeep having programming issues after a new battery is installed?? I never had this problem on any car I had after a battery installation???

Defect Description:
ELECTRICAL SYSTEM
Potential Consequences:
Failing part - 8.4" Uconnect radio/control center of the Jeep. The Uconnect system is failing and started ghosting the vehicle, changes the radio, heat and AC, turns on backup camera, calls 911, etc. This specifically becomes a when it starts calling phone numbers and turning backup camera and becomes a distraction to the driver. The problem has been confirmed as the system control panel has delaminated and needs to be replaced by a Jeep Dealer. We were advised to have a Dealer check and confirm the control panel has delaminated and confirm it needs to be replaced. We followed this guidance from Chrysler/Jeep and Uconnect and told that once we did this and they confirmed it needed replaced they would start the process to replace the control panel. There were no warning signs that this was starting and first started about 6 months ago. It has now progressed to nearly every time use the vehicle the control panel starts ghosting all the controls. We have researched and understand that this is an issue with all the Uconnect 8.4 control systems, doesn't matter which vehicle it is in. What we have been able to find is it has been determined a safety issue in other vehicles and Chrysler/Jeep is replacing them. But for us we were told they would only warranty it to 60,000 miles. We have about 89,xxx miles on our Jeep. I don't understand how it can be determined a safety issue and Chrysler/Jeep can get by only covering this to 60,000 miles. It becomes a major safety issue when it randomly and constantly starts changing the temperature, fan speed, back up camera, radio, calling numbers including 911, this can only be stopped by turning the system completely off. this causes loss of many functions to the vehicle.

SERVICE BRAKES
Potential Consequences:
We have had numerous incidents with our vehicle starting at about 20,000 miles and still happening at 39,000 miles. While driving all of the lights come on, on the dashboard while at the same time the car loses power - losing brakes and power steering. Most recently, the car locked itself after closing the door, the radio has completely turned off to a black screen, eventually restarts itself. While stopped at a red light, it felt like I got rear ended, a bang sound and the car jerked forward. We have only had Jeep dealerships work on the car. The PCM has been replaced, as well as the alternator. They did find a small wire that was rubbing and repaired that as well, However, the problem still persists. This is a major safety issue, I feel this car should not be on the road, we are lucky that no one has been hurt at this point. The last time this happened my husband was making a left turn at an intersection and was very close to being in a serious accident. It is currently in the dealership (for the 5th time).

ENGINE
Potential Consequences:
Engine started running rough, MIL light came on and flashing after 10 minutes of highway driving. Found code P0300 for random misfire, monitors cylinder misfire with scan tool and found cylinders 1 and 2 misfiring. Tested coils, checked spark plugs and tested fuel injectors, no issues found. Performed compression test and found cylinders 1 and 2 with 8-15psi. 3rd and 4th cylinders at 160 psi. Engine teardown needed, used engine prices are high hinting this is happening often. Vehicle had 73,389 miles and been maintained well.

ELECTRICAL SYSTEM
Potential Consequences:
One day before the incident occurred, I was sitting at a red light and the Start/Stop light was green like normal, all of a sudden, it turned amber, and the engine kicked back on. It drove normally, the next day, I tried to start it and it wouldn't turn over, the gas tank was almost full. This is the 2nd time a battery change was done. The first time was for normal service, the battery needed to be changed. The Start/Stop system has worked normally since I bought it (in 2018) The mileage is ~83,000

ENGINE
Potential Consequences:
while driving the car at 40 mph it just quit running! engine completely out causing driver to swerve. Vehicle behind had to swerve around to avoid collision. There was no accident and nobody was injured but a close call! Two different shops (one being the certified Jeep/Chrysler mechanic) confirmed total engine faulure! The first shop told me that the turbo fatally failed and sent metal shrapnel through the air intake ports and scored and scratched the inside of the cylinder walls. Then oil passed through the motor and through the entire exhaust system ruining the catalytic converter and all sensors in the motor and exhaust system. There were no warning lamps or warnings of any kind. The car is less than 5 years old and has approx 76,000 miles. Cost to repair: $17,260
